100 years before Divorce - Chapter 246
Guan Xian had several scenarios on his mind when he heard that Xia Sha had woken up from her ‘sleep.’ He could see them as the main character of the short movie he self-directed, rewriting all those beautiful love stories in the world.
From the hell-breaking fight to the long-awaited reunion, Guan Xian sees it all. And if he wanted to be realistic, he knew that he deserved the first scene. He would not defend himself against all thoughts inside that brilliant mind of Xia Sha. He had made a vow not to dodge if a vase flies in his direction.
He had one job, that is not to let her down, and he failed it.
No matter how Xia Sha treats him afterward, he would gladly accept all the consequences he needed to face.
And when he said all the consequences, that includes accepting Xia Sha’s decision if she wants to cancel the engagement.
However, things do not turn out like how he expected to be when those bright eyes greet him with a smile as Xia Sha called out his name, “Guan Xian.”
The spark that he tried to bury deep with regret was slowly reborn. And like a burst of fireworks in the sky, Guan Xian had no chance to control his heart race.
“Too long,” he foolishly mumbles.
Guan Xian blinks a few times, unmoving from the doorway as he suddenly gets overwhelmed by anguish and sadness that he tried to surpass.
Xia Sha sees too many changes inside the slow-burning gaze Guan Xian shot at her. Before, he was always brimming with confidence.
He never shows tiresome though he does not have a decent sleep or rest. Guan Xian had always delivered the best version of himself, that this real emotion of human that he showed today surprised Xia Sha.
“The wedding organizer tired you out? Why do you look like someone who hasn’t sleep for three days?” Xia Sha said jokingly, didn’t realize that her words had unraveled Guan Xian.
Honestly, Xia Sha is glad Guan Xian did not come up with the lame ‘how are you?’ sentence. The polite and distant Guan Xian frightened Xia Sha to the core. Not because Xia Sha knew that Guan Xian was a fake gentleman, but because she knew that he had done something unredeemable if that day happened.
Upon hearing Xia Sha’s correct guess, Guan Xian showed a weak smile as he staggeringly walked into Xia Sha’s bed with urges to pull him into his embrace. But considering Xia Sha’s body condition, Guan Xian only holds her hand gently at the end, trying not to crush her bone with all the longing he hide.
“I don’t remember what happened. But I started to think you had done something terrible, and I was mad at you before,” Xia Sha said as her eyebrow and somehow starting to felt grievance even though she didn’t recall the upsetting event.
She expected a light-hearted laugh or wrinkled nose from Guan Xian and an explanation of her silly accusation coming after. But when he lowered his head with an ashamed face, she felt a faint ache.
“I’ve done terrible things. Please forgive me,” Guan Xian whispered as he tightened his grip on Xia Sha’s hand subconsciously.
Xia Sha felt her heart had to drop down to her stomach as her eyes started to get misty. She sucked her bottom lips as she tried to remain composed, “What did you do? You remember I’ll castrate you if you ever cheat on me, right?”
Guan Xian was stunned, amused, and confused at the same time as he turned to Xia Sha with a wondering expression. His tongue had been itchy to say, “What makes you think I could cheat on you? Haven’t you realized how you had me wrapped around your hand? And also, how could I forgot our deal?” and flicked her forehead to knock some sense.
Unguilty Guan Xian would respond to Xia Sha’s accusation wittily. But then, again, he is guilty. And so, he decided to hold his tongue and took his time to talk.
“No, it’s not what you think. But I’ve let you down, and I deserve to get punished for that,” Guan Xian said while he looked at Xia Sha with compliance, only to find a relief expression and smile stretch on Xia Sha’s face.
“As long as it’s not the things that I could not tolerate, I won’t do anything. I’m sure feeling guilty is enough punishment,” Xia Sha replied as she stroke her soft blanket that wrapped her body.
Xia Sha’s word had weighed down on Guan Xian heavily. The guilty and shame he had carried for days now multiplied after hearing Xia Sha’s unforced forgiveness.
“Still, I’m sorry for letting you plan our wedding yourself. It’s such a tiring thing. I’m an idiot for thinking you enjoy managing anything. Wait, that still sounds wrong. I don’t know how I could explain this to you, but I’ve learned my mistake. Please-,” Guan Xian stopped his rambles when Xia Sha suddenly hit his shoulder hard. Hard enough to knock some sense into his head.
“I’ll punish you after I remember the details. But now, let’s put it on hold. I need to know about Hu Che and his parents,” Xia Sha said, ignoring the constant headache on her head.
Guan Xian squinted his eyes, feeling weird for a reason. He tilted his head with an unreadable expression. With a slight frown, he calmly said, “I don’t know you are this invested in Hu Che, but he is fine. I’ve asked Tang Yu Bin and Fu Qun to help.”
Xia Sha looks relieved as her tense shoulder drop, finally show a bright smile at Guan Xian. Guan Xian blinked his eyes with a confused face as he could not stop himself from protesting to Xia Sha.
“That’s it? You only worried about Hu Che?” He asked in a ‘you are kidding, right?!’ tone.
Xia Sha sucked her bottom lips in between her teeth as she hissed, “Would you answer if I asked about my work?”
Guan Xian’s answer comes short and cold, “No.”
His monotonous and flat expression is somehow expected by Xia Sha as a teasing grin appears on her face, “I’m sure everything is alright with you and my dad around. I’m talking about the wedding and the company if you-, hmph!”
Xia Sha had no time to think about anything else when Guan Xian’s lip overlapped her dried lips as he pulled her into his passionate kiss. He made her heart leap before pulling her into a dreamy realm. It becomes an irony that Xia Sha felt disappointed when Guan Xian separated them.
“I’ve missed you so much. And if you weren’t so cruel to leave me alone for five days, I would smack you on your ass for talking about anyone but us,” Guan Xian’s said in his lower voice as he tried to catch his breath.
Once again, he had failed to hold himself against Xia Sha. What exactly did he hope anyway? To ease his heart, he had decided to cut all the witty answers Xia Sha had and do the things he wanted to do ever since she woke up.
Guan Xian’s raw and honest remark dragged Xia Sha out of her reverie as she blinked her shocked eyes several times.
Xia Sha didn’t answer, turning away her head slightly to avoid Guan Xian’s intense gaze. Her cheeks are burning even though she had shouted at her cheering inner goddess to stop.
“It would not be fair for me to say anything about us when I don’t remember the cause of your guilty conscience,” Xia Sha mumbles, suddenly feeling wronged after hearing Guan Xian’s asserted answer.
“What if I’m considering leaving you?” she whispered at the end.
Xia Sha had used the smallest mumbling volume and prepared herself to face the overdramatic Guan Xian. However, when she noticed how he got stunned over her intended joke, Xia Sha realized how remorseful Guan Xian might felt over the event.
It put Xia Sha in an uncomfortable state when Guan Xian gently and quietly pulled her into his embrace. He nuzzled his defined jaw against her silky hair, lowering his head to kiss the top of her head.
“You have every right to do that. But please, don’t.”
“You frightened me, you know?” Xia Sha whispered.
Guan Xian’s voice came out so calmly as if he had expected a goodbye. The terror Xia Sha subconsciously set on Guan Xian instantly backfired to her somehow.
“I know. I’m sorry, what can I do to make that up?” Guan Xian said, leaving a lasting kissed on the top of her head.
The carefree and playful grin plastered on Guan Xian’s face made Xia Sha felt relief for a moment as she decided to shove away the thought that started to mess with her head.
Playing the Game Guan Xian started, Xia Sha returned his mischievous grin as she made Guan Xian regrets ever granting a wish for Xia Sha.
“I want to get away from this ward and hospital right now. I want to buy clothes and attended Hu Che’s prepared event tomorrow.. I wish not to hear any word of ‘I can’t because I’m still weak.”
