36 Ways To Chase After My Wife’s Love - Chapter 158
Kaili went to her father’s company after getting permission from Manager Clara to come late to the office. In the president director’s room, sat a middle-aged man who was pensive while staring out the room’s glass wall. Kaili’s heart throbbed seeing this scene. It was like she had just been hit by something hard.
She walked over to the man. It seemed that the middle-aged man was so lost in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the footsteps that were getting closer to him. Once the distance between the two of them was close, Kaili extended her arms around the man from behind.
“Papa…”
Finally, the man was awake. He patted the hand of the girl who called him ‘papa’.
“You came?” His voice was calm as if there was no anger in it.
“Papa….” Kaili wanted to ask a lot of things. ‘How do you feel? Are you okay? Did you sleep well last night? Did the news that circulated make you sad?’ But seeing the calm expression on the man’s face, she knew that this man wasn’t doing well and if she asked him that again, it would only add to his burden! Kaili finally gave up all her intentions.
“Hmph… I miss you,” She added.
“I thought, I would really lose my daughter when she got married. Apparently, you still miss me.”
Kaili blushed, “Nonsense! Papa, no man can move your name in my heart. You are always number one in my heart and missing you is only natural!”
Richard took her to sit on the long sofa. For a moment, he watched his little daughter, then impatiently he said, “How is your marriage life?”
“My husband and I are good. Papa, didn’t you see it?” Kaili seemed a bit bragging. Richard should have known his daughter wasn’t lying.
“How can I trust you? You are good at hiding everything including your sadness!”
This was what Richard regrets the most! In the past, Kaili always looked happy, even though he forced her to marry Peter. As a father, he failed badly in knowing his daughter’s heart. Recalling the events of the past, he felt that he owed this daughter a great deal! How stupid he was not to realize which fake happiness was and which was real. But this time, his eyes were no longer closed. He could actually feel the aura of happiness radiating in his beloved daughter’s eyes.
“Are you happy with him?”
Even though he could see the happiness in his daughter’s eyes, Richard still wanted to confirm it as if he wouldn’t calm down if he didn’t ask her directly.
“Papa… I love him. He also loves me so much. He appreciates me and always makes me happy. He’s a good man, Papa.” Kaili answered earnestly.
Hearing that, Richard heaved a sigh of relief. Fe felt calm.
“That’s good. If he dares to hurt you, your papa is still strong enough to retaliate. When he is mean or rude to you, tell me, I will hit him!”
Kaili laughed. Since then their conversation had not brought up anything about the shocks Goh’s company had experienced, even Kaili seemed to have forgotten the purpose of her visit.
It wasn’t until after a while that she said, “Papa, actually… I’ve heard everything that happened to you on the news.”
“…..” Richard was silent, only looking at Kaili with an unfathomable expression.
“Is that true?” Kaili asked again.
Richard didn’t hide it either, he nodded “Yes, it is.”
Kaili hadn’t taken his eyes off his father ever since and she’s been seeing his father not showing any expression ever since. For a moment, Kaili’s heart seemed to stop beating. She really couldn’t bear to see her father slumped!
“Papa… How are you feeling now?” Finally, she reluctantly expressed her worries.
Hearing that his daughter was worried about him, Richard smiled, he stroked Kaili’s hair gently, “At first, Papa was so sad but hearing that you are living well with your husband, there is no sadness or worry in my heart anymore.”
Kaili was confused. Obviously, this wasn’t what she was asking! With a pouting mouth, she said, “Papa, I mean what about the company!”
Richard smiled again, “Maybe… it still can be saved, maybe not.”
Kaili held back her tears, what made her sad the most was not because her father’s company would be destroyed and they would fall into poverty, but because she knew very well her father’s struggle to get this all! She also knew how important this company was to his father!
“Is it that bad?”
“From the beginning, this company should have gone bankrupt. I shouldn’t be sitting here but I was greedy. Just because I wanted to keep this company, I almost made a big mistake.” He almost killed his daughter’s happiness!
“I built this company just so you can get a decent life. Who would have guessed that my daughter would prefer a simple life with her doctor husband? So why maintain this if you just don’t want to manage it. I’m old enough. I will be grateful if given another 5-10 years. After that, I die, then left all of this. So what happens let it happen. Don’t worry, Papa is fine.”
Since the beginning of his struggle, his goal was purely for her daughter to be unmatched by other people’s daughters in everything, especially financially. He worked hard to get all of this. Who would have guessed, even her only daughter did not like all the glitter of the world. Living her day like a daughter from a simple family.
He also matched Peter not without reason. Besides their family will help him solve the company’s financial problems, Peter’s family were good people and will spoil his daughter-in-law! Besides, this daughter had not always been very sociable. As a father, he was worried that his daughter would not marry.
At first, he thought everything he was doing was purely for his daughter. In fact, it was all for his personal gain. He was afraid that if his daughter would not marry, he would not have grandchildren. He was afraid to hear the humiliation his daughter would receive due to poverty. People would think he was a failure because he couldn’t provide for his wife and children!
The debt he owed his daughter was simply too much and it was time to pay it all off. If indeed losing this company allowed him to pay off all the debts owed to his daughter, then he would be willing to accept that.
He had thought things through all night. He would sell his personal valuables including the house and a few cars to pay back the loan capital to the Swan family. If it was still not enough, he was even willing to sell most of his shares and would hand over the post of president commissioner of GohCorp to the new shareholder. Maybe the name of GohCorp would still exist or it would be replaced by the new largest shareholder. That was not his business anymore. But he must have to leave a small number of shares that would be provisions in his old age by living in a simple house and simple facilities.
So what? His daughter was currently living in a simple apartment. Then why did he refuse to buy a small house and occupy it? He had also expressed his thoughts to his wife. Luckily, his wife had the same thoughts as him and they had agreed.
“Papa… Don’t despair, there must be the way. I believe that Papa can get through all of this.”
Hearing these encouraging words from his daughter, Richard Goh laughed happily. His daughter was too worried about him. Even though he didn’t care about anything anymore.
“Dexter has some great patients. He promised me he would find investors who could lend capital to your company. I knew he would try.”
“Oh, really? Doesn’t he hate me?” Richard was suddenly interested, not because Dexter had promised to help him, but had he forgiven him?
Kaili hid her head in his father’s chest, “Papa, actually Dexter was a nice person. It’s just that our past mistakes with him are too many and it takes time to be able to pretend it never happened.” Not only the fault of his parents, but Kaili was also aware, she had so many faults in Dexter that it was not easy to forget.
“It would be great if he wanted to help me. But I have to return all the funds I borrowed before 12 noon at the latest. Finding investors in such a short time is not easy!” If it was easy, he wouldn’t have made a loan on top of the marriage agreement!
“At 12 o’clock?” Kaili was shocked! That was right, who would be able to get a loan for a large amount of money in a very short time?
“Papa… Then what will happen to your company?” she asked again.
Richard smiled, “The company isn’t everything to me. My Kaili is everything. Your mother and I have been thinking about all this all night. What are we defending this company for? My daughter doesn’t want to manage it. If Peter asks for his rights, just give it. Doesn’t that mean I can retire sooner? Releasing positions and selling some shares will not make us poor. At least, it will only reduce our income a little from what we usually do. I’ve worked hard. It’s time to enjoy old age with your mother. You…. quickly give me a fat grandson.”
