69. Earliest Memories
「Congratulation, Jilbagias. Your peerage has been raised to that of viscount.」
Said Platy as he visited the room with an expression that I had never seen before.
Good day, the day after I got Lyla, and just when I was thinking about reporting to my mother, I somehow got promoted to viscount without my knowledge.
「Viscount!?」
The current me was a lesser knight, the lowest peerage in the demon kingdom. Above that was Knight→ Semi-Baron→ Baron→ Viscount→ Count… And so on, so I literally promoted four stages at once, it wasn’t a leap anymore.
「Yeah! The youngest viscount in the demon kingdom.」
Of course I am! I mean, I don’t think you could find any other 5 year old viscounts after me!!
And, the reason for this rapid promotion was most likely…
「Subjugation of Faravugi, is it?」
――Lyla wasn’t in the room right now. Garounya might be in the middle of teaching her about shared living space for the employee and livelihood in this place.
In the end, her status in this place was rather vague since she was treated as my house guest, apprentice maid, and maybe private army too.
And despite her tremendous potential, the person herself couldn’t do anything since the dark dragons often looked down on her… Her ironing skill are on a professional level though.
Regardless of what she would do in the future, she had to receive basic training first.
And her education would start from basic reading, writing, and simple calculation. The mentor was, of course, Sofia. Since I had reached the level of self-study by reading books, Sofia would teach Lyla while I did self-study by reading books on the side.
I mean… The me from my previous life, and the me when I just reincarnated really hate the so called studying.
Alas, the current me could go as far as reading difficult tactical instruction, geopolitic books, and even the elven poetry, so yeah, people do change…
It went mentally and physically since the current me wasn’t even a human! Gahaha.
「Yeah. It’s supposed to be unofficial training and yet, it’s changed into an official one due to the identity of your opponent. Your first battle is recorded as 『The leader of rebels from dragon race, the patriarch of the white dragon, Faravugi』.」
… I see.
「Not many of our demon race warriors can defeat the dragon race’s patriarch by themselves. Properly speaking, your peerage should be raised directly to Count but…」
Platy let her back to sink into the backrest of the sofa as she let out such grumbling.
「It’s decided to give you viscount peerage due to your age.」
Yup, that’s right!! It’s my age.
Speaking of count, it would be comparable with Warg, the ex patriarch of Orgi clan, and that green basta*rd. I mean, I’m still 5 years old, remember? The decision was too logical.
Though I couldn’t help but want to see the face of that green basta*rd if my peerage was really raised to count… The other demon race from count peerage and below might show disapproval if they saw me getting ahead of my life at such a tender age.
「In the first place, getting promoted from lesser knight all the way to viscount before adulthood is already abnormal. In short, I’m not promoted directly to count after taking my safety into consideration.」
Platy looked dumbfounded upon hearing my remark.
「You are really calm… It’s as if this is someone else’s problem. If I was in your position, I would be so annoyed that I would not be able to sleep at all during the day(night).」
Well it was simple, because… I didn’t care about my peerage in the demon kingdom…
The peerage just gave me more degree of freedom, that’s it…
「Moreover, not everyone thinks the same way as you do. It won’t change the fact that your peerage is raised all the way up to viscount in one fell swoop. Not to mention that many others were stuck beneath viscount peerage even after participating in many wars.」
Said Platy with a sneer on her face, cruel light dwelling in her eyes.
「It’s a bit of a stretch if those kinds of people are jealous of your success but… They have no idea what kind of brutal fight you experienced back then. Not to mention that you’ll lead those mobs in the future as their commander during the war…」
Dammit, I felt depressed just imagining such a situation…
「Even some of our relatives might also sneer behind our back upon knowing your success. Since they’re going to envy you anyway, I think you should be granted count peerage from the very beginning.」
So that was her point huh.
「In addition, since you have become a viscount, some warrior with the same peerage might pick a pick against you. In fact, your previous peerage as 『Lesser Knight』 is acting like some sort of ward against those kinds of people.」
「Ward, is it?」
「In that situation, they usually say something like 『We’ll be ashamed if we take a Lesser Knight seriously』 right? But now that you’ve become a viscount… You lost that kind of privilege since you’re already regarded as a full fledged warrior with some degree of strength.」
So they would pick a fight to show that I’ve become a proper warrior.
「In short, some sort of rite to prevent the young warrior from getting overly confidence.」
「Correct. See? Whichever peerage you ended up with, you’re still going to find people looking for trouble with you right?」
Now I finally understood what Platy means that my peerage should’ve been raised to count from the very beginning.
Being a viscount was nice. Many were quite powerful big shots. The idea of having to deal with an ever increasing idiot who tried to meddle with me was…
「What should I do to deal with those meddlesome guys? Can I beat them up if they’re trying to meddle with my business first?」
When I asked such a question casually.
「Yes, just beat them up.」
Replied Platy with an extremely wicked smile on her face.
「Beat them up so thoroughly. Taunt them till they can’t forget about it in their entire life. Show them that you’ve power befitting of someone who should’ve received a count peerage. And make them regret ever picking a fight with the prince from Reiju-clan. Plant that awareness by breaking their heart, make yourself into their greatest 『Terror』. Do it so thoroughly so that no one will be stupid enough to do that again in the future.」
For the race with powerful magical power, in most cases, their own magical power ended up becoming a curse that binds them.
So now I had to add another caution in my mind that some people that tried to meddle with me would appear from this point.
「On the other hand, if such a person’s heart doesn’t break and they keep coming after you again and again―― It means they have good prospects. For such people, you can recruit them, or at least build friendly relationship with them.」
B-Barbarian…!
「Listen, Jilbagias, peerage in the demon kingdom isn’t just being how great you are, it’s a symbol of strength. Some idiot seems to have some sort of misunderstanding nowadays, that’s why it’s your duty to teach them their place.」
「In short, I’ve to show them that I’ve power appropriate for my peerage.」
「Yes. In your case, let them learn their place.」
… But mo~m, I was going all out when I fought Faravugi, I even used holy attribute and Alexander’s name.
Though my power rose again after I got Lyla, the power that I could exert in normal situations might be only up to viscount class.
Though I’m all in with her suggestion about kicking the a*ss of the basta*rd who tried to meddle with me. Nor would I show any hesitation since the opponent was a demon race.
「Alas, some people objected your promotion to count since you have yet to go to the proper 『War』.」
…
「Well, they get the point about you needing to get baptized on the battlefield. In my opinion, you don’t need to undergo such rites of passage anymore. This situation only happen since they don’t understand or know you as much as me…」
Said Platy as she looked listlessly at the scenery outside of the window.
「In addition, your first campaign has been decided. This might be a nice experience since the other party is the alliance…」
Does that mean… The time has come?
Fast… This is way too fast…
「Well, let’s think about that slowly. By the way… I heard you received another exotic pet.」
Said Platy as she leaned back on the sofa, completely relaxed.
「Even I had not expected this situation.」
「How are you going to use her then?」
「Maybe treat her as a private army for now. I’ll ask Sofia to train her too. Not to mention that her ability as a dragon has been falling behind since she’s forced to always take her human form. No need to rush with her training, once she manages to fly, she’ll become my personal mount.」
「Your personal, mount?」
Platy frowned.
「I objected. His Majesty, who has been aware of the dragon race’s plot, has never ridden a dragon. I would like to say the same thing for you―― That girl, Lyla, is it? She should be Faravugi’s daughter. We don’t know what’s gonna happen if I let you ride on the back of the dragon whose father was killed by you. That’s why you should use the other dragon clan unrelated with this matter.」
「I feel the same way, Mother.」
I clasped my hands together on my lap, brain running at full speed to find a solution.
Still, I wanted an independent transportation method unrelated with dragon race.
「… After taking that factor into consideration, Lyla doesn’t seems to mind me riding on her back, If needed, I’ll build a relationship of trust with her.」
「Tell me the details.」
Well then, time to persuade her.
