99 Days Trapped in the Body of the Royal Prince’s Wife - Chapter 50
After a few minutes of chatting, Michael got up and staggered a little because he was drunk. This made Clara immediately get up, mean to support his stout body but was immediately rejected.
“No need, I’ll be fine,” Michael shouted preventing Clara’s hand from touching it.
Clara felt sad and did not force to touch Michael. “Michael, but you’re very drunk. You can’t go home alone. You have to take a taxi!”
“It’s okay… if I get hurt, it means it’s my destiny,” Michael said then walked out of the cafe.
Clara, who couldn’t bear to let Michael leave the cafe drunk, immediately followed until the cafe door arrived, meeting Fabrizio who was about to enter.
“Don’t follow me, Damn it!” Michael exclaimed, staring at Clara in annoyance.
“Michael, but you’re drunk. You shouldn’t drive drunk because it could harm yourself or others!” said Clara irritably.
“Mrs. Clara,” said Fabrizio who looked so handsome wearing black jeans combined with a gray top and black leather jacket, and combing his hair in a spiky style. “We’d better get him a taxi,” he continued.
Clara nodded, then invited Fabrizio to lead Michael to the side of the road until they finally got a taxi. They asked the taxi driver to take Michael home, while the car was entrusted to the cafe.
Now, Clara was sitting on a chair, opposite Fabrizio whom she was meeting for the first time. They ordered fast food and also cocktails because at that time Clara was hungry because she had not had breakfast.
“Are there any significant progress regarding Casey’s accident case?” asked Clara to the point.
“I’ve been to Los Angeles to meet Mr. Danue Riot who sold the car to Mr. Russell. He gave information that he got the car from a police officer who served at the San Francisco Police Station,” explained Fabrizio with a flat look.
“Police from the San Francisco precinct?”
“Yes, ma’am. Possibly it was the police who were ordered by Oskar to investigate the accident case,” explained the incident and then devoured French fries that had been dipped in sauce.
Clara was silent for a moment while eating a burger, remembering Michael’s explanation that Oskar had closed the case after receiving information from the police that the cause of the accident was human error or a drunk and reckless driver.
“And I have asked the other police to secretly investigate the car, we will wait for the results in a few days,” said Fabrizio.
“Do you think the police that Oskar ordered have been dishonest all this time?” asked Clara. “Ehh… I mean….did he give false information regarding the results of the investigation?”
“I also don’t understand and can’t make a decision because we have to wait for the results of the latest investigation,” Fabrizio replied, then drank his cocktail.
“I hope the results come out soon.”
“Ma’am, while waiting for the results to come out … I want to move on to taking care of something first because this is also very important,” said Fabrizio with a bit of hesitation.
Clara frowned, remembering that she had promised Paulina to help her get rid of the slander about the poison case.
“What should you do? You must stay focused on your duty to help me… What I mean is… You must always carry out my orders. I will pay you very dearly!”
“Ma’am, but this is also very important because it involves a personal matter for the person I love,” Fabrizio said with a pleading look.
“But this is also important because someone is already a victim of slander. She is my husband’s secretary, and I can’t let her go to jail without crime,” Clara said seriously.
“Who are you referring to? What is the name of your husband’s secretary?” Fabrizio asked with a probing look.
“Paulina, her name is Paulina,” said Clara.
Fabrizio was silent for a moment, then said, “Paulina is my lover, and I want to find evidence that she is innocent, that she was slandered.”
“Is she your girlfriend?” Clara looked surprised.
“Yeah, she just called me to help her immediately. She was crying, she was scared, and I believe that she was innocent,” Fabrizio explained angrily.
Clara was silent, understanding Fabrizio’s feelings as a lover. She took something from his bag, then gave it to Fabrizio.
“This is a photocopy of the CCTV footage in the secretarial room…I don’t know why Paulina came to the office at night, last night to be exact,” she said.
“Last night?” Fabrizio received a flat object which was a photocopy of the CCTV footage.
“Yeah, do you know something?” asked Clara.
“Last night she had dinner with me for a while when I just got back from Los Angeles,” Fabrizio replied with a frown.
“Then who is in the CCTV footage?” asked Clara.
Instead of answering, Fabrizio was lost in thought as if he was thinking until suddenly the ringing of the phone interrupted his thoughts. He looked at Clara who was taking her phone from her bag, then received a call. Hmmm, maybe from Nathan.
“Hello,” Clare said flatly.
“Honey, where are you?” asked Nathan over the phone.
Clara looked at Fabrizio, then put her index finger to her lips as a sign to keep her confidant quiet.
“I’m eating out,” Clara said, returning her focus to the phone.
“Tell me where you are, let Anthony or the others come to accompany you.”
“That’s not necessary. You don’t have to worry about who will accompany me, I wouldn’t be hurt at all without them,” Clara said then hung up the phone. She immediately turned off her phone, then put it back in her bag.
“Why are you so harsh on your husband?” Fabrizio asked, looking at Clara who looked very annoyed.
“I’m annoyed that he believes that Paulina was the mastermind behind the poison case when this is absurd,” said Clara irritably.
“Do you know who came up with the idea to search the secretary’s office?” asked Fabrizio casually.
“Felix, my husband’s confidant. He was ordered to investigate two women named Liora and Patricia whom my husband had already suspected. But for some reason he suddenly wanted to conduct a massive search … .and it turns out that the accused now is Paulina, while Paulina is known to be very good so far. Of course, this makes me angry because my husband is so stupid to believe in one piece of evidence too much.” Clara explained feeling so irritated that she even lost her appetite.
“This is a trap, and I already know who framed Paulina, even from here we can find out who is the mastermind behind the poison case,” said Fabrizio with a blank stare as if he was imagining something.
Clara also remembers Arion’s instructions and said, “Honestly, I even suspected that Felix was working with Liora, Felix was a traitor and he would never catch Liora by scapegoating Paulina.”
“Then after that, this case will be closed, and Liora or Patricia will be free,” said Fabrizio guessing about the tactics being played by Felix. “Paulina is the victim in this….if she doesn’t get help soon, I’m afraid she will be given a very heavy penalty, especially with the CCTV evidence.”
Clara frowned and went back to Paulina’s unfortunate fate. “Can’t you help Paulina be free soon even though on CCTV it looks a lot like her? I even thought that it was Paulina?”
“I can get her on parole, but that doesn’t mean she can rest easy…Now I feel I have to prove that Paulina is innocent by showing the real culprit,” Fabrizio said while rubbing his slightly beard-shaped chin.
“That means you have to investigate the accident case and also…” Clara thought hard.
“Felix..not Liora or Patricia, but what I have to investigate now is Felix,” said Fabrizio with a very serious look, imagining having to fight Felix who might be in the same profession as him and very cunning.
