A Berserker Mob, I’m Going to Participate in the Main Story - CH 47
Rainbow-colored eyes
Part 1
“Take a deal? What, you were going to let Cyrus and the others out? I can take Joey and Eliza, if you want. They’re good with customers.”
Al immediately consulted Vargas, but even he, who knew the situation to a certain extent, had a misunderstanding. but since he had not explained the situation to him, it’s not surprising.
“Eh, You want, Joey and Elsa?”
“Ah. But I can only wipe their asses if something goes wrong. And I can’t pay them any more money than they’re getting now. and I’ll take care of a place to live and food.”
Royal capital is cold. That’s what he thought, but Al learns that there is a side to it that is not so. In the town of outsiders.
“may I ask you something? Why do you want to take them?”
Vargas’s stunned face. ‘Don’t you get it?’ It is also a face that says.
“You know, you’re not like an Those Nobles, but you’re still a member of the Noble. Despite that, you sheltered the childrens. Not as slaves or toys.
There must have been something in return, but Cyrus and the others don’t look like abused or anything. As far as I can see from the side, it is free support.
And these childrens are serious workers. They are even more decent than those lazy sons and prodigal daughters. They are making the most of the opportunities given to them. That’s why.”
Vargas, who has the appearance of a skinhead and a one-eyed man, looks at Al with a serious expression, even though he sighs. If a stranger sees it, it will be clearly seen as a figure that is threatening Al.
“……It wasn’t such a noble thing at all. Really, Vargas has reaffirmed that you’re a good-natured guy despite your appearance. So, can you let it be known that I’m not going to hold on to them and never let them go? If they want, They’re free too do so.”
“…… are you sure? You’re hiding the fact that you’re a member of the nobility, aren’t you? If you tell that story, you’ll lose face, won’t you?”
Al can only laugh at the fact that, before long, he is being treated like a charitable man who hides his true identity and only supports homeless childrens. He also discovers one of the reasons why he is not seen as a Noble, despite being one in this neighbourhood.
Vargas had taken it upon himself to take care of it.
“*sign* I’m not hiding anything. I didn’t know, I’m seen that way. Well. I’ll discuss it with Cyrus and the others tonight, including the whole matter of the contract.”
Al goes home, telling himself that it’s not a bad deal, even though he’s worn out by Tim and the Vargas and many other things.
Part 2
“So I say. It seems that my ignorance has caused you guys to lose the offer of an undertaking. I’ve already spoken to Saji, Joey and Eliza.”
Only Al, Colin and the four older boys are here because they have been waiting for Cyrus, who works at the bar, to return from the quarry. Vera has put the younger group to bed and is standing guard.
“….. does that mean, we’re no use to you anymore ……?”
It was easy for Al to see that Cyrus was wearing as much tension as if they had just met.
“Haha. What makes you say that? I told you before. If you can be independent on your own, I will help you do so. I’m sorry, but my objective is still ongoing. I have an ulterior motive for wanting to keep you informed after you’ve gone to the place of internment if I can, but if Cyrus and the others don’t want to, there’s no need to force the matter. If you want to stay here, you can stay here. And just because you leave here doesn’t mean it’s goodbye. If someone does something insolent to you, you can tell me. I’m not the only one, but above all, Vera won’t allow it.”
Al dares to laugh it off plainly. The older members of the group, however, understood too well what he meant by “Vera won’t forgive”, and in a different sense, they were terrified inwardly.
They know that Vera is kind and compassionate towards Cyrus and others, but not towards her enemies. They’d seen her fight off bandits on several occasions.
The gap between her and her usual self is likewise Al too, but from the point of view of Cyrus and his friends, who are exposed to Vera’s kindness on a daily basis, they don’t want to see her ruthless and matchless in the face of the enemy.
“That Al-sama. Is it Tim, Master Tim. who is seeking to take me in?”
A small, stammering boy, Saji asks. There is a sense of anticipation and anxiety on his face.
“Yes. Master Tim even told me he’d like to have Saji as an family member. Oh, and by the way, Joey and Eliza are going to Vargas. So, what about Saji?”
The answer has already been decided. Al was sure of it. When he learned that Master Tim wants Saji, he saw the joy in his eyes.
“Oh, I-I , Master Al, if I go to the master tim’s place, can I still come to the guild?”
“Of course. For Saji, Cyrus and the everyone, you can come when you want. In the meantime, you don’t have to answer here and now. There may be things you want to discuss with your colleagues. There is time to think about it. Saji has the freedom to choose now.”
Saji nods quietly and seems to be thinking about things. Joey and Eliza, who have also been asked to take themselves in, too.
But Cyrus was thinking about something different.
“…… Master Al. I understand it’s important but I’m sorry, it’s something unrelated to the current topic, actually i want al-sama to protect someone”
“Protection for me? Well, let’s hear it anyway.”
For Al, it’s just a casual consultation. Especially as the information brought by Silas often leads to quests and events, what’s next? …… and that was about the extent of his readiness.
Part 3
“Albert-sama. I’m sorry, but this is also my job. No matter how much you ask, I can’t back down so easily. We have our own reputation to uphold.”
“Well. I can see that. You’re an underworld organisation. You can’t just back down if your reputation is destroyed. Especially in the capital, where the nobility are the most important. They may be gutted, but they’re also very tough when they’re prepared to do something about it.”
Al and Colin are surrounded by people who are clearly not a decent people.
The furnishings in the room are each luxury item, but the people lined up there are not so. A typical underworld office.
Before Al formally enrolled at the academy, he “befriended” a certain underworld organisation when he was staying at Angus’s Inn for a long time.
Cyrus’s counsel. Those seeking protection from Al. father-son, who are being chased around unilaterally.
The father and son sought help from the master of the tavern where Cyrus works, who sheltered them for a time in a boarding room upstairs in the tavern, but their pursuers were from the underworld. In the end, they were taken away.
“But the fact that you took one of them without the information that they were twins and got a big eye-roll from the client is quite laughable, isn’t it?”
“…… damn it! You-you!”
Right. The twin children are the ones we are looking for. The twins are brother and sister, and they have rainbow-coloured eyes due to mutation or ancestry, whether because they have demon blood or for some other reason. The elder brother has the right eye. The younger sister has a left eye. One of each.
Al was disgusted to hear that a certain pervert wanted to “collect” this siblings’ rainbow-coloured eyes, and had been chasing the them around the country with the help of an underground organisation.
I’m always being involved in human trafficking and bad taste in collecting, isn’t it? Are every nobles in the capital such perverts? I’ll just gather evidence and lead them to the Church Knights. besides, I heard that the upper echelons of the church are not so innocent either, but, it’s still better than the perverts.?
In the end, the father and sister were caught, but the brother had escaped. And it was Cyrus who helped this boy to escape.
With his help, and with a network of horizontal connections from his former days, the elder brother is now on the run from one back street to another.
Cyrus, too, is now able to use Falconer’s style of mana control to some extent. With this, he somehow managed to organise some of the children. Currently, he spends most of his wages on them.
When Al and Colin were told of this fact, they scolded Cyrus. He told them to tell him quickly. Al and Colin told him that they would pay that much as a necessary expense.
Cyrus had been struggling with this matter for some time, but when the subject of contracting came up, he boldly revealed all the details to Al. Fortunately, it was a “friendly” backroom organisation that Al knew well that took the father and son directly.
“No, I thought I would close my eyes to your ‘work’ itself, as long as it wasn’t directly related to me. Now someone related to me want to help the father and son. I just came to hear the story.
I’m assuming that they have already been sent to the client and that you’re all looking for the remaining twin brother desperately? I’d be grateful if you could tell me who this perverted client is?”
“Hey. Can you stop fucking with us? You may be a fearsome mage, but we’re an organisation. Even the nobility in the capital are behind us. You can’t protect those kids by sticking up for them all the time, can you? Don’t get too carried away.!”
Man is cut off as he grimaces, a burst of mana that is no child’s play for Al. Clear malice and harm. The mana of those around him is also disturbed.
Breakdown. An understandable thing. But maybe it was just a silent threat by them to not to looked-down.
Al dared to let them roam free, so he can use them as a source of information, but the reason he “befriended” them was because he refused to take care of Deacon Francis. If they had not liked this decision, they would have taken only half-hearted action against him.
After a mild retaliation, the white flag was raised too casually and they called it off, but when their “work” extends to their own people, the relationship is over. The organisation even contracts out assassinations. Again, this is human trafficking without consent. Harm to innocent people.
And above all, their information itself is no better than the information they demand from their own people, Cyrus.
Al gives up easily. He thought he would look for the next one.
“I see. Well, goodbye then. You can pay me back what you owe me.”
Even the magicians present knew it at that moment.
The reason Al and Colin are together.
That’s to put a end to them.. Their “death”.
Part 4
One day, the supposed office of an underground organisation was attacked.
All persons believed to be in the office at the time were found dead, killed by blows with blunt objects or by sword attack. As no traces of special mana were discovered and all victims were killed with almost a single blow, it is assumed that the attackers were non-magicians of considerable skill.
According to knights rushed to the scene, the investigation is being conducted as part of a war with another underground organisation.
However, there are also indications that much of the money and goods that may have been in the office were stolen. Therefore, a planned armed robbery is also being investigated, which has nothing to do with a rival organisation.
Part 5
“Capital is a scary place. I didn’t realise that the conflict between the human races could be so ugly.”
Colin mutters quietly, as if suddenly monologuing.
“Colin, you’ re implicitly criticising me for taking advantage of them, aren’t you?”
“Rather, not implicitly, but clearly. I don’t want to have to use people who are harming the people. Even the money we took was originally obtained by harming innocent people, wasn’t it? Well, I can see that what I’m saying is a naive thing.”
I know it in my head, but I can’t really convince Colin.
In Falconer territory, there is no such thing as a back organization even in a relatively prosperous territory.
It’s not a question of good or bad ethics, but in the frontier, those who are left out of society have no choice but to die or join the army and get their guts back in gear. It is correct to say that there is not enough room to tolerate those who remain half-hearted.
On the other hand, in the supposedly peaceful royal capital, which is affluent and almost free from the threat of demons, social outcasts have formed cliques and are profiting from illegal means. Furthermore, they are almost always tied to the nobles.
There is even a saying among commoners that they are “Innocent Nobles”. It means “impossible thing”.
Aside from the war with the demon described by Al, Colin thought that ‘such a thing would never happen among the nobles’, but after spending only a month or so in the capital, he has already lost his mind.
“If you get hit, you hit back, I, Falconer, miss the killing spree with the monsters in the Great Forest. Not that I want to go back there, but it was nice there, plain and simple. In here, you often have to put up with a lot. I’m often appalled at how the human races do it with each other, in the same country.”
“Still, even though you know it would be troublesome to mess with the head of a noble family, you would still do what cyrus asked you to do, wouldn’t you, Al-sama?”
Al nodded as a matter of course. The people are important. The ironic thought also comes to mind that this one point would be common to the nobles of capital.
Besides, Al also caught something.
The one with rainbow-coloured eyes.
In the game, the character was supposed to be an event character involved with the protagonists. Al’s memory tingles faintly.
I think, it was supposed to be a quest to acquire some kind of useful skill or magic. But it wasn’t this urgent, I think it was more like, a heartwarming interaction with the twins.
If it’s a quest, then if I can protect the rainbow-eyed children, I’d like to get in touch with Daryl and the others, too, and I still haven’t made a promise to Silmes..
In the game, the protagonists interact with twins with rainbow eyes who have inherited the power of sub-fairies, and gain items with skills enclosed in them, but there are no such items in this world. In the first place, there are no game-like system.
And, of course, the game does not depict any conflicts with illegal organisations or nobility over the twins.
From this point on, the world is foreign. It’s Al’s episodes from here on.
