A Breath Of The Wild Fanfic - Volume 1 Chapter 29 29
I woke up drenched in sweat, I couldn’t remember what I dreamt of, so I decided to put it to the back of my mind and got out of bed. I walked outside to wash down my face and chest area, making sure to scrub the Sheikah emblem that sits on my solar plexus.
I walked inside and started to take account of all my supplies. I first checked to see how much arrows and provisions I had, after I saw that I had enough for the journey to Kakariko village, I checked if my armour was in working condition. Noticing no damage to my armour I went to change into better clothes.
After changing into travel gear, I told Purah and Symin that I was going to go see the blacksmith for my order and then left. While trekking down the hill, I made small talk with the old man and then continued down.
I arrived at the gate to town and after a small amount of time was allowed in. I walked through the streets and ate some food from the food stalls before I walked to blacksmith.
The attendant smiled towards the door before he noticed me and then he sighed and waved me over, “Joseph, that’s your name, right? Doesn’t matter, master Dante has made the crossbow, it took him quite the effort, so we expect quite the amount of money. He spent at least 500 rupees of effort to acquire the materials and assemble the darn thing, he only made it because he took it as a challenge. That’ll be 900 rupees, he said to give you at a discount because he enjoyed the challenge, if not for that it would’ve cost you at least 1400 rupees, quite a steal if you ask me.”
“Okay, thank you and tell Dante that I’m very thankful, also say that I’m going to come to him to repair it.” I said before paying him the money, the pained feeling of parting with that amount of money etched on my face, I sighed a I placed the money into his hand.
I opened the box that was lain on the table and inspected the crossbow, its stock made of cherry wood with metal trigger, its prod is made of hickory. It weighed about 3 kg, it was easy to carry, and its grip felt nice in my hand. It was roughly 65 cm wide and 45 cm long, I inspected it closer and noticed that there was an insignia engraved onto the stock, it was a broken rock.
“Bye.” I said after placing the crossbow back into its box, I carried it outside before I placed it into my inventory. I looked around and saw that no one noticed my action, after making note to stop doing that in public, I walked towards a general store.
After I entered, I bought several cooking utensils, I started walking back to the lab. After I got to the gate I was let through after a small screening.
“Oh, hey Joseph,” said the usual guard, “haven’t seen you in a while.”
“Oh, hey Dom,” I stated, “I came through yesterday, but I didn’t see you.” We continued with pleasantries before I left, after I walked home, I looked up and felt the time. It was around 1 o’clock in the afternoon, after some deliberating, I chose to practise with my crossbow.
I walked to out the back of the tech lab and took out a log of wood and placed it on the ground, after I walked 10 paces away, I took out my crossbow. After preparing my crossbow I took aim and fired, I missed, after attempting to fix my posture I took aim and fire. I hit but it wasn’t very accurate, after I got the hang of reloading the crossbow, I started to use magnesis on the arrows to reload it without expending an extreme amount of effort.
It took me an hour, but I got used to using the crossbow, I even tried to use a bow while using magnesis to fire the crossbow for me. It’s not very effective and it’s not very fast as I need to focus a lot to use it at all. After that, I went inside and talked to Purah a bit before cooking dinner, it was Gourmet meat stew. After washing down my face and hands, I went to bed and before long I passed out cold.
*The next day*
After I woke up, I walked downstairs and washed my face, I didn’t have any dreams so yeah there was that. I changed clothes to my travel armour and went inside to eat breakfast.
“Good morning, Purah, Symin,” I said as I noticed them sitting at the kitchen.
“Good morning Joseph.” Purah said as she passed me a small stack of notes and a few letters, “These are to teach you some manners, we don’t want you to be executed on the spot for an accident, now do we? Also, there is a letter in there for my niece and my sister, try not to read them.”
“Thank you, I’ll read the notes to learn proper etiquette, because, you know, death is not something I want to experience just yet.” I said with a cheeky grin at the end. “I’ll miss you guys. I’ll be back once I’m done at Kakariko village.”
I went to collect my blue flame, and after I had it hung at my hip, I gave my farewells before I started walking down the hill, looking at the sky and feeling the morning breeze caressing the side of my face. I felt as if the journey I’d started had finally begun, and it filled me with a feeling of satisfaction, this moment was etched into my mind.
