A Breath Of The Wild Fanfic - Volume 1 Chapter 31 31
The drowsiness slowly cleared from my eyes as I sat up, as they adjusted to the light. I listened to the comforting sound of a fire burning, and quiet chirping in area around me.
After crawling to my feet, I checked outside of the tent and took in a deep calm breath of forest air, it smelled kind of weird, but I ignored it. I hobbled over to the blue flame, still stiff from sleeping on the ground, and chucked a piece of leftover chicken skin into the pit.
It danced in happiness, writhing from side to side, while seeing the adorable reaction of the flame, I looked around it to see if anything attacked us while I was sleeping. I picked up a few charred Keese wings, a few teeth and a couple bones, I didn’t quite know what they came from, but I said, “Eh, oh well,” and picked them up.
I continued to inspect my campsite for other little goodies, I found a few pieces of charred meat and a puddle of blood. Commenting: “well that explains the smell.” I packed up my sleeping bag and took down my tent; chucking them both in storage I started to cook breakfast, Radish soup and a little bit of bread to sop it up. Feeling that my was stomach filled, I took out the lantern, and after burning the puddles I called the blue flame over. It climbed up my body and sat in the lantern. I fed it the leftover radish greens.
I grab out a waterskin and douse my face in it, waking myself up properly. I could feel the moisture around me, I felt it soak in through my pores, lowering my body heat. I took my sword out of my inventory and place it at my hip, its length reaching around my upper shin. I flexed my emotions and felt my runes pulse. The water coating my face, the metal in my sword, the flecks of iron in the rock and ground, feeling the vibrations of my body and in the air around me. I feel the excitement flow through my mind and cause a bit of the water flowing off my face to crystallize, turning to snowflakes.
After that I took the time to look at the letters that Purah addressed to me, I am still amazed that I can read anything in this world.
‘Hello Joseph,’ the letter read, ‘the purpose of this letter is to help you adjust to the possible issues that might crop up when you arrive at Kakariko village. Remember that you have the support of the Hateno tech lab, and one of the main goals of this journey is to get you support. You have four main tasks to achieve in this journey. 1, hand the letters addressed to my grandniece and sister to them. 2, Avoid conflict as much as you can, don’t trust random people. 3, hand the 1st letter I gave you to the gate guard, it has my seal on it, and Impa should have given word that anybody with that seal should be allowed in. 4, read the note that’s labeled, ‘best behavior’, it should teach you the basics of how to behave while on Sheikah clan land. Don’t worry about using any titles or honorifics, that’s a waste of time.’ Below in smaller text, it read: “P.S. Do not act suspicious that’d only make enemy spies notice you.”
I read through the note labeled ‘best behavior’, it was rather long, so I mentally split it into sections and read the first section. It was mainly about common logic, don’t have your weapons out, don’t antagonize strangers, avoid using the runes as much as possible in front of other people. Most of the points made sense.
After I finished reading through the notes, I stretched and stood up. After packing up my cooking pot and eating utensils, moving over to the path, and started walking.
After 15 minutes I got close to the area which held the cliffs of Quince, but first I had to get past that one place that was a ridge, having one relatively thin gap between two raised platforms. I heard noises when walking up the path, and after stretching out the Cryonis sense I had been developing, I could vaguely make out some bobbing forms made of heavily diluted water.
Monsters, probably just Bokoblins, I judged based on the size of the bodies. I stopped going up the path down the middle of a ridge, what am I, an idiot? I walked around to the base of the left ridge and climbed up. I spot 3 Bokoblins and 1 Moblin on the far side away from me. The lighting made one notice me, it walked in my direction and after reaching a few meters away I pulled out my crossbow and fired a bolt towards its neck. It didn’t see it coming and barely made any noise as it fell to the ground, a small puddle of blood flowing out of its body onto the ground.
I get up over the rim of the ridge and attempt to drag the body away when I hear footsteps rushing in my direction, I quickly sense for moisture and feel two more creatures rushing at me. I unsheathe my sword in response grab out 5 caltrops, throwing them to the ground and jumping to the side. I narrowly missed being hit by an arrow of a Bokoblin, it clumsily grabbed another arrow from its quiver and start to draw it, when I pull out my crossbow, the arrow fully pulled back.
I pulled the trigger and got grazed by the Moblin swinging its bat at me. I ignored the pain, and leap at the enemy, I first aim for the legs. Two swift somewhat deep cuts to either leg, I wait until it gets momentarily knocked down and then start pressing my sword into its growling throat. It swung its arms wildly, I kept pressing until it slowly stopped, I watched as the light left his eyes, and the blood triggered my devour rune. It’s blood fell to the ground before it clumped together and formed an essence orb. I slumped onto the ground and rested there for a few minutes.
After collecting my breath, I stood back up and grabbed the arrows I used. I picked the three bodies clean, collecting the horns, the Moblin’s guts and the essence orb. It had faint wisps of color, some bobbed some weaved, some collide. All leading to an awesome light show.
I grabbed some bandages and checked my body for any cuts or grazes on me. The Moblin club left a bruise, nothing seemed to be broken. I motioned my hand in the air and all the arrows and caltrops floated towards me. I noticed that the caltrops were covered in blood, ‘I’ll clean it later’, I thought to myself.
I place the Blue Flames lantern on the ground, and it devours the corpses of the monsters, they quickly burnt to nothing. I waited for them all to burn to nothing and watched as the Blue Flame crawled into the lantern. I picked it up and started to continue my journey.
