- Chapter 11 Pass The Gate Into The Sacred Fores
“Hey, did you hear about that?”
“What?”
“Don’t play dumb.”
“Ahhh that”
“Yes, that”
“Hehe, not only did I heard it but I personally saw that!”
“Seriously?!”
“Yes, as the legends say, he is big!”
“Damn, where were you at the time?”
“I was nearby the entrance of the castle wall and saw them enter. The ground was literally shaking by every step of the Giant Commander took!”
“Actually, I’m pretty envious of the Giant Commander and the Elite Soldiers”
“Oh, you mean when they saw the three beauties of the Holy City at the same time.”
“Yes”
Cass’ ears widened as he slurped his soup and took a bite of steak. He was expecting to get some information by the extras who were conveniently talking about rumors in the neighboring table. However, when he thought he was about to hear something useful, their topic suddenly changed into the three “beauties” of the kingdom.
Cass just got irritated hearing them lust over the innocent Holy Queen and the overprotective maid. He didn’t know about the Royal Healer, Manra but since she was clustered beside the two then he’s pretty sure that she’s innocent too.
“It’s one of the Holy City’s Seven Wonders. Why is the Royal Healer still single?”
“Yeah, I’ve heard some of it too. The other wonder is who is the Giant Commander and where he came from, right?”
“No, no, the true wonder is how he really looked, inside the silver and black armor.”
One nodded.
‘Still single, huh?’, Cass thought that the three was suited to each other, although it was a bit harsh for the Royal Healer.
Inside the tavern which advertised a decent lunch at such a low price of five bronzes, it was surprisingly unpopulated.
After finishing his meal, Cass was stopped when he was about to leave.
“I heard that the Giant Commander was ordered to catch someone.”
“Someone? What kind of a person that is to make the Holy Queen call the Giant Commander?”
Cass called a waiter and asked for a drink to avoid suspicion. He kept his ears wide open.
“I don’t know. That information hasn’t gotten out yet. I think they are spreading it to the gates so that person couldn’t exit the city.”
When Cass heard that, he immediately drank all of his drink and a hurry, he went to the expedition group.
Bran waved his hand as he saw Cass. They are now prepared to set and are only waiting for Cass. They didn’t mind since the schedule unexpectedly tipped off.
Cass was relieved to know this.
“Why are we setting off earlier, Captain?”, Cass asked after he entered the wagon before it moved.
“Captain?”, Bran smiled and laughed but he didn’t tell Cass to call him otherwise, “Well, we’ve heard that the gates will be doing inspections so we have to get out early to avoid trouble. The wanted person seemed to be dangerous so the inspection will be probably tight.”
Luck fell on Cass this time but he regretted that he gave his real name. He really wishes to go back time and change it.
It only took the wagon to reach the exit minutes. In front of them were a few guards. They stopped the driver.
“Excuse me, sir, before you exit, can you give us your reason, your names, your departure, and your destination. If your reason need a permit then include those.”, a guard came and requested.
Looked like that the inspection was still not on effect but they still wanted to get the information.
“Uh, sure.”, Bran handed a few documents to the guard.
Cass noticed this and it made his heart skipped a beat since it included his registration form. However, after a few moments.
“Ah, so you’re the Expedition Group, huh?”, the guard gave the documents back without even looking at everything but took a paper from it, “Then please, make your way, Sir Bran.”
Cass couldn’t deny that he was surprised, ‘Looks like Captain is a bit, important person.’
The other youngsters, looked ahead with excitement as the front wagon moved and was followed by the wagon they are sitting at. Cass didn’t notice this but there are still others. He looked ahead, out to a window to see if there are more wagons bit it seemed like there are only two.
The two wagons were big enough to fit in thirty-two people altogether. Cass looked around inside and thought, ‘Youngsters?’, with just a look, he knew that he was the youngest. No, actually, he was already the youngest when he lied about being eighteen. There is only one Truth Orb in the whole Holy Kingdom based on what the waterless had said so Cass could easily lie since the registration didn’t need any other requirement.
The other “youngsters” already have long beards on their chin. Cass estimated that the age range should seventeen – which he was the only one to fourty.
“Ugh”, now that Cass noticed these things, he also noticed their equipment. He is confident to survive if the monster that will appear doesn’t exceed the strength of three bears. Yes, three years. Cass was only confident to survive three bears and not totally defeat them with the exception of running away.
If it was about running away, even if there are ten tigers trying to catch him, he could get away uninjured. Also, there are about thirty of them if the number of people both wagons held is the same. By the looks of it, some were already experienced.
“Oh, Cass”, Bran called Cass’ attention and gave him a bag, “Here is some equipment for you to rent.”, Bran also gave Cass an old dagger and without waiting for Cass to speak, “The rent is only fifty bronzes even if you return it broken since it’s already old and if you returned it broken then it means you’ve used it a lot. Just pay it after the expedition ends.”
“Ah, thank you.”, Cass took the bag and realized it was a bit heavy and the dagger.
He opened the bag and saw a small round bronze shield first. It was really a small shield, it only has a radius of four fingers. It was cute and convenient to hold. It was heavy for its size but Cass can still carry it easily. it was like a thicker and larger coin with a handle.
Next was a leather armor pants and top, along with crude shoulder pads. The leather armor set was surprisingly light. He had no trouble equipping it while sitting.
“Hmmm, why aren’t you wearing anything on your feet?”, Bran just asked now but he already noticed this when he first saw Cass.
“When I was captured, all my equipment was confiscated, including my footwear.”, Cass smiled.
“They didn’t give it back to you?”, an eyebrow was lifted on Bran’s curious face.
“Yes,”, Cass turned his head down, “I kind of offended someone there.”
“Ohhh, you offended someone in the castle, huh?”, Bran’s eyes squinted.
Cass noticed Bran’s suspicion. He needs to step up his acting and lie, “Ah, it wasn’t someone important, I wouldn’t dare if it wad. It was just a soldier who I got a fight with.”
“Hmm”, Bran stared at Cass for a moment but didn’t doubt him, “Yeah, it was expected since you got captured for no apparent reason.”
“Ah yes, my head is a little hot at the time.”
Bran curled and took something under his seat. He then gives it to Cass.
“Here, sandals. It’s yours, I don’t use it anymore. I was planning to throw it away but it’s better for someone to use it.”
Cass took it and nodded, ‘Well, he’s a good guy.’, he then wore the sandals. Although it was a bit big, he just tightened it up.
“Thanks, Captain.”, he smiled.
“Ahaha, no need. Just do your best on this expedition.”, Bran smiled back.
Cass felt a bit conscious of deceiving a man like him. He was really grateful though.
The horses pulled the wagon at such a slow speed but it was still faster than walking speed. However, just after half an hour, Cass saw greens far ahead. After another half an hour, he saw mountains and after another half an hour, they’ve reached a forest.
There is already a road in this forest.
It was quiet inside the wagon. Cass was just watching the view from the window while the wind blew past him, making his hair flutter.
“This is the vast forest of the Holy Kingdom which is still hasn’t been fully explored, the Sacred Forest.”, Bran explained.
“Sacred Forest?”, one of the younger ones asked. It is unlikely that they haven’t heard of this but one still asked for further information.
“Yes, the legend of this forest was that an Ancient Sacred Dryad died in here. It is said that the corpse still hasn’t rot to this day but kept sustaining the vigorous life of this forest.”, Bran had a serious face, “Although this is just some legend. It is still a fact that the creatures of this forest were stronger than normal to protect the deeper part of it since somewhere in this vast forest, the corpse of the Ancient Sacred Druid was buried.”
Cass frowned, ‘Wait, I thought you said that the monsters we are going to fight are barely strong but why did you just said stronger than normal?’
