- Chapter 12 The Lack Of Capability To Think Since They Have Less Power In Short Weak Monsters Are Dumb
The wagon stopped and Bran walked out. He shouted, “Okay! Everyone, we are going to camp here!”, he walked onto a plain grass field.
“Captain, isn’t it still in the afternoon?”, Cass asked.
“We can’t set the camp at night. We have to prepare a defense. It’ll take a while.”
‘Defense..’, Cass felt weird about it since, on their way into the forest, he had not seen a single animal let alone a monster.
Bran saw the doubting in Cass’ eyes and said, “The sun is still up so monsters wouldn’t come out yet. The majority of the monsters are nocturnal. Ahahaha, we will be in trouble if we met one in the middle of the day.”
“Why is that?”
“Weaker monster are just forced to sleep in the day to hide from the big predators. It’s been that way since the start of time that they’ve become nocturnal.”
“Then isn’t it more dangerous in the day.”
“We are still far from the deeper part of the forest…”, Bran looked far away.
Cass saw a deep sadness within Bran’s eyes. He was confused.
“Sir Bran!”
Bran looked at the youngsters who called and running to him and yelled back, “Steven, what is it?”
“There is a river not far away in the east.”, Steven who was waving Cass when Bran called Cass before, pointed at the direction from where he ran from.
“Perfect!”, Bran laughed.
‘Wait, so fast? I haven’t seen anyone move around that much.’, Cass looked strangely at Steven.
“Oh, this is Steven, my assistant.”, Bran introduced Steven and same with Cass, “And this is Cass.”
“Ah, nice to meet you.”, Steven offered a handshake.
“Nice to meet you too.”, Cass accepted it, his eyes wandered and fell upon the belt around Steven’s waist. The belt has three small pocketbooks attached to it.
Steven noticed his eyes and laughed, “This is my Skillbooks.”
“Skillbook?”
“Hehe, the reason he is my assistant is that he is a Book User.”, Bran pat Steven’s shoulder.
Cass still had the questionable expression.
“You don’t know what a Book User is?”, Bran asked.
Cass could only shake his head.
“Seriously? Are you a caveman?”, Bran laughed loudly.
‘Well, this man’s happiness is shallow.’, Cass bitterly thought.
Steven was forced to laugh awkwardly.
“Umm, let me explain to you what a Book User is since it is quite easy. Instead of magic, we use the power of incantations.”, Steven happily explained, “We borrow some powers from the Gods through this incantations. I used this Skillbook.”, he tapped the second book on his waist, “that enabled me to use the Eagle Eye technique.”
‘Eagle Eye technique. must be how he spotted the nearby river.’, Cass’ eyes widened, “Does anybody can become a Book User?”
“Well, technically yes but it requires talent and lots of effort or there should be many Book Users.”, Steven said humbly as much as possible.
‘Talent?’, Cass smiled inside his heart, ‘That is the only thing I do not lack. Efforts are nothing if it’ll make me use that kind of techniques.’, he still did not know a single thing about magic. Actually, this may be the first time he heard that there is magic in this world from the others. He only read it in the book. He felt strangely attached to it after seeing the little books.
“Okay, enough chit-chat! Go to work. Help others set the camp. Just follow other’s instructions.”, Bran lightly pushed Cass while laughing.
Cass weirdly looked at Bran, ‘This guy is really friendly.’, then nodded and followed Steven.
All of them, even the two drivers helped with the setup of the camp. Tents were placed on the grassy field. It was fortunate that the wind was gentle that day.
Cicadas started to make noises while the sunset over the green mountains. The sky then turned dark.
There are eight tents in total and three bonfires were made. Surrounding those, are defensive sharp woods that pointed outwards.
Cass looked at the people who are strangers not long ago but now we’re talking and laughing to one another.
Silence never came back
Cass wondered after seeing and helping with the preparations, he did not see any food. At the same time as the preparations were finished, Bran shouted, “Alright! Now that we are finished, let us now hunt!”
Others looked at Bran with nervous but excited eyes and even though they are quite tired preparing their campsite, they shouted back and raised their fists while their hearts wildly pumped.
“Huh?”, Cass was stupefied, “Hunt?”
“Prepare your weapons!”, Bran shouted as loud as possible, “Those who are inexperienced should prepare and prioritize safety. Those who are experienced should protect one another as much as possible.”
While everyone shouted in synchronize, Cass was there, staring them with a dumb look on his face, “What?”
Roars were heard from the forest. Shouts and cries from wolfs were heard but Bran still didn’t stop. His loud shouts seemed intentional to get the attention of the sources of those roars.
The others ran and equipped their light armors while some are already equipped. They looked at their weapons with bloodlusts.
From the northern side, roars became louder and came, a boar. This boar is very different from a normal boar as everyone would imagine. They are slightly bigger than the average boar and more robust with their tough black fur but the most outstanding aspect of this boar was its green glowing eyes.
“A Green-eyed Boar!”, someone shouted with a smile.
“I can take care of it!”, a man who was in his thirties said with courage as he slowly walked towards the wild Green-eyed Boar but he stopped behind the sharp wood.
The veteran-looking man breathed deeply and shouted, “You mom is a dumb bitch!”
“…”, all the youngsters stared dumbfounded while the experienced ones all cheered.
As if the boar understood it, it angrily roared and rushed to the man in thirties.
Chik!* the boar rushed and stabbed itself to the sharp defensive wood. When it felt the pain on its forehead, it tried to retreat but it was too late.
“Looks like we’re having pork, tonight!”
“Yeah!!!”
“Wooh!!”
A youngster asked, “How did he get the boar to stab itself?”
Bran explained in four words, “Because monsters are stupid!”
“They just follow their instincts and when they felt aggression towards others, they will be easily taunted! They are late to sense danger and to react to it!”
“The weaker the monster, the dumber it is!”
Roars were loudly heard in the surrounding trees. Boars and pack of wolves came out of the trees.
“We will take care of the pack of Black Wolves, the youngsters can deal with the Green-eyed Boars!”, Bran shouted.
The youngsters were left and were surrounded by the angry boars, “What the heck happened to protect one another!? So we were to protect ourselves?!”
“So that’s why the food is free.”, some almost cried.
The older ones didn’t listen to them and shouts were heard, “A speck is larger than all of your brains combined!”
“Your mother is a dumb bitch!”
“How about going back to your parents to drink milk?!”
“Your mother is a dumb bitch!”
“Say something other than that!”
“Dude, what are you saying? Is that your aggression? They can’t talk.”
“I’m telling that to you!”
Roars became screeches right after the Black Wolves got taunted.
Steven sighed and took the role of the leader of these twenty or more other youngsters since he’s the most capable and is the assistant of Bran.
“Alright, just imitate them and don’t get out of the wooden barrier. Just shout at them. You don’t need to curse and say stupid things. You all just need to be aggressive towards them since they won’t even understand what we are saying! Also, report to me if there are other types of monsters.”, as a Book User, he was respected so it was easy to receive the trust of others, Steven stepped forward and confronted one, “Yeet!!”, he shouted.
Cass was about to get his bag with the dagger and shield inside one of the wagon but stopped, ‘Who shouted that?!’, he looked around saw Steven taunting a boar, ‘Does he even know what that means?’
Cass went to one of the wagons and grabbed his dagger and shield from the bag Bran gave him. He smiled as he looked at the two, ‘Real life monsters!!’, he was excited. You wouldn’t sense any fear coming from him but instead, he was excited.
He grabbed the handle of the small round shield and the dagger and headed towards the other youngsters.
Since he got out of the walls of the Holy City, he had already planned his escape. He planned to just leave the Expedition Group. He does not fear any of these monsters as long as he can survive. However, that escape should be executed after he gets to eat dinner.
The campsite was at the chaos on the edge. Everyone was shouting and monsters were roaring. Blood splashed outside the defensive measurements.
Cass spotted one Green-eyed boar that no one was taunting. He stepped in front of it and breathed deeply, turning on his aggression as if there was a switch, ‘I’m going to kill many monsters.’, he currently had the mindset if more monsters killed then more food to eat.
He squinted his eyes and before he could shout, the Green-eyed Boar roared and rushed towards him.
‘Wait, I haven’t said anything yet.’
