- Chapter 13 Leaving In The Middle Of The Nigh
The Green-eyed Boar came rushing forward and stabbing itself in the process.
Cass was a bit confused and looked at the other Green-eyed Boars that was being shouted at. When he looked at them, the boars immediately noticed the aggression and turned towards him. Four boars instantly came rushing forward and like the others, stabbing itself.
Even those that he unintentionally looked at rushed to him and got stabbed too. Some Black Wolves came to him as well.
Cass was surprised by all of this and then tried to ease his mind. The other monsters that were preparing to rush to him ignored him when the pressure they felt disappeared, ‘Am I good at acting now??’
Others that noticed this felt confused. All the while there are tens who are shouting at these monsters but these monsters went to the boy who wasn’t even saying anything.
“Is his face that annoying the monsters?”, one joked, he was a bit annoyed when his voice couldn’t get the attention of any monster.
However, Cass didn’t care about that. His aggression was turned on again and this time, more monsters came to him when he was not even looking at all.
In front of him were twelve stabbed monsters and some still rushing to him. The sharp woods were already filled with monster corpses that he needed to walk slowly to change the monsters’ direction.
Others couldn’t help but stare since their targets were leaving them and going to get killed by that one guy.
When Cass’ noticed the attention he was getting, he slowly vanished his aggression until no monsters were in front of him. Although; he didn’t know that by just simply putting the monsters in pressure can greatly taunt them like that, he didn’t want further unwanted attention.
While everyone was busy shouting, a particular one was heard, “A Red Spotted Snake! A Red Spotted Snake!”, a youngster panicked as he tried to warn others.
The older ones from the other side became worried, “Boys! Get away from there! You are no match for a Red Spotted Snake!”
Ssss* a loud hissing was heard, many turned their eyes to the source of that hiss and saw a green snake that has red spots all over its body that is thick as an arm.
A man who felt confident after killing Green-eyed boars stupidly said, “This is mine! Hey, your dumb bitch is your mom!”
“Brat! You can’t defeat that! The defensive measurements wouldn’t work on a snake!”, Bran shouted while rushing from one side to the other.
“Huh?”, the man who confronted the snake panicked when he saw the snake easily avoided the defense by simply slithering. After passing the defense, the Red Spotted Snake stood in front of the man. Although it was only as thick as an arm, it’s length is more than ten meters! With its strength more than a normal snake’s strength, it can carry itself with ease and easily stand two meters tall.
Tears came out of the young man’s eyes while his depressed expression darkened.
“Please don’t use the words mother and bitch in the same sentence again!”, a shout came out of nowhere and easily took the snake’s attention.
Instead of attacking the young man, the snake turned to the source of the shout. It quickly laid on its stomach and slithered through the grassy field with haste, passing many others in just a second.
Bran ran as fast as he could to reach the Red Spotted Snake. However, the snake was too fast and then leaped through the air to attack.
Cass who was going to receive a huge open mouth with sharp fangs of a snake, he didn’t panic but stepped back one step and swung his left arm straight.
Tong!* the small bronze shield vibrated after it hit the face of the snake. In front of the huge open mouth of the snake, Cass wouldn’t just block while being still with the small shield he had. Therefore, he smashed its head at the right timing.
Without a pause, Cass struck his dagger right after the snake’s attack was parried while it was in midair. However, it did not take any effect and just scratched the tough skin of the snake. It is as if, he just pushed the snake with the dagger.
After the snake got smashed and was “pushed” by the knife, it took it only a moment before getting back its control but before it could immediately attack again, Chi!!* its head flew away from its neck and blood splattered all over.
Bran was already in front of Cass who had a stance of after swinging his longsword with a serious look on his face while his breath was disordered.
“..”
Cass turned his aggression off after seeing that Bran already killed the snake in one hit.
Bran breathed deeply before shouting, “Okay! Enough! We already killed enough monsters for food! Drive them away!”, his expression was bitter.
He took a wooden stick from the defense and lit it up from the bonfire. Some followed and took some torches and flailed them in front of the monsters, driving them away.
….
“Take the monster’s corpses, then skin and bone them. Cut the meat block style and placed them to the sticks. We’ll just roast them in the bonfire.”
“Yes”, everyone nodded to Bran’s orders.
Everyone immediately started to work and did what was ordered.
Cass saw Bran who was helping and felt a little off about him, ‘What happened to that guy?’
“Don’t worry about him. He’s just sad.”
Cass’ eyes rolled to his right and saw Steven, he was confused as for why this man would just come out of nowhere and said that but, “What made him sad?”, he still asked nonetheless.
“You know that he was a Holy Knight, right?”
Cass didn’t know this but wasn’t surprised either since he didn’t specifically know what a Holy Knight is. So, of course, he shook his head.
“Huh?! You don’t know that?”, Steven’s eyebrow twitched, “Are you really a caveman?”
“Shut up”, Cass sighed, he really didn’t much yet, what can he do? “So, what about him being a Holy Knight before got to do with him being sad now?”
The fire on the bonfire waved from the gentle wind and smoke slowly float from it.
“I’m sorry but I think you should learn that from him.”, Steven looked at Cass in the eyes, “It’s a bit of a tragedy. I think he doesn’t want something so personal to be talking about behind his back.”, he turned and walked away.
‘Tragedy, is it about the horse again?’, but Cass nodded in agreement. Nobody wants something personal about them was getting passed around behind their back, ‘It’s not like I care’, he heard his stomach growl decided to roast some more meat and ignore other matters. Even though it wasn’t properly cooked. The monster meat doesn’t taste that bad and with hunger, it helped the food tastier. After all, they are the one who made an effort to kill them at the very least.
Clouds covered the full moon and stars that night. Everything was dark except the bonfires that lit up the campsite. Everyone celebrated at the non-casualty battle earlier. Although a Red Spotted Snake unexpectedly, it was easily cut.
…
It was already in the middle of the night.
Cass silently walked out of a tent silently as possible.
There are some who are guarding at night but Cass easily went passed them without them noticing him. His stealth skills were great as if he trained day and night to achieve that but he didn’t and he looked so casual doing it.
His direction was headed to the east, where the river was at. He didn’t know how far was it since Steven found it through some technique from a Skillbook. However, while thinking this, he already heard water splashing onto a rock and continuing its endless stream.
The river seemed violent was the first thought Cass had in his head but after arriving at the actual spot, what he saw was a waterfall.
The stream wasn’t violent at all. In fact, it looked like there’s no stream at all. After the water came down from the waterfall, it’ll become quiet and still along with the others.
The sound of the water violently smashing onto a rock came from the huge stone under the river and besides that stone, many smaller stones were at.
Strangely, when the clouds vanished and the moonlight struck the river and the waterfall, Cass saw a man sitting atop of one of the many smaller stones beside the biggest stone under the waterfall.
The man noticed Cass when the place lit up. The eyes of the man shone in sadness.
Cass knew this man and he stepped forward, “Captain, what are you doing there in the middle of the night?”, since he was already noticed by Bran, who was sitting atop the stone, he doesn’t need to hide anymore. Well, he no longer hid when he came out of the trees and met the river so that is why Bran easily noticed him.
“Cass. I should be the one asking you that.”, the usual cheerful tone of Bran disappeared. There is only sadness and regret.
“I’m planning to leave.”, Cass said blatantly.
“You can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because the direction you are going is the deeper parts of Sacred Forest”
