- Chapter 2 Obnoxious Demon Who Drank Others Water
There was a young prince who sought the love of an innocent young lady. However, this innocent young lady later was chosen by the Gods to inherit an unfathomable power because of her pureness and innocence.
The young prince was sad that their positions suddenly became more distanced to one another. One is a future king on a little kingdom in the west and the other was the future queen of the whole world.
However, this did not stop the young prince to get the love of the innocent young lady that came to the highest position in the world. He will try and reach her. Instead of getting discouraged, the prince determinedly has the goal to reach her.
But how can he reach her? It is through by increasing own’s strength! The strength to defeat a whole army of legion alone! By then, he’s sure to catch the love of the queen.
..
That was the summary of the book, Love of the Holy Queen. It wasn’t that catchy or interesting compared to others but Cass will read what he has not yet.
Taking this seemingly unpopular book along with the other two in an unfamiliar bookstore didn’t make Cass hopeful but at least, it did make him happy. He thought he already had read every single fantasy-genre novels but he unexpectedly stumbled upon one while just walking around the town without a real direction to follow.
The first 7 pages of the book show a great start. It first told the situation of the prince and then the story of how the innocent young lady became the Holy Queen. On the sixth page, it told about the war about the demon and human race but now that the Holy Queen can almost inherit the powers from the Gods, the demons are preparing to intervene and so the Holy Queen became cautious and searches the land for demons. On the seventh page, there is a male guard that has the suspicion of being a demon spy..
It wasn’t long before Cass figure out that he was the suspicious male guard. No memories were showing up inside Cass’ head about this guard’s life.
How will be able to prove his innocence? This time is supposed to be in the medieval period! That medieval period! Although it was not exactly like the medieval period since this is a fantasy world but the soldiers that were surrounding the cage while riding on their warhorses was enough to tell it should be close to the medieval period.
There is so little law about being fair in here. If you’re suspicious, you’re dead!
However, looking at the situation, it doesn’t seem like that was the case. If it was, one of these tough-looking soldiers could have sliced him in half. Maybe, if Cass was fortunate, they will have to interrogate him first or torture.
Nonetheless, what he needs right now was information. He needs to stay calm, he breathed deeply and calmly.
A pitiable expression was shown on his face. His eyes darted around and with a shaky voice, he asked the soldier on his left, “S-sir, what are you going to do with me?”, in this hot weather, he looked like he was shivering in coldness.
“.”, nobody answered. None even shot a glance at him.
‘At least, they are not aggressive to a possible demon spy.’, Cass was being optimistic as much as possible. In front, he saw the horses that were carrying the cage and the surroundings were all sands and mountains of sand.
He looked back and he saw figures of tall buildings. Looked like it was there he was taken from.
They have been traveling for an hour now since Cass heard the conversation about the Holy Queen. Nothing was said against her Holiness but he only heard praises and worship, saying how she outstandingly predicted the possible places that the demon spies may be hiding. The conversation between soldiers only took a halt when their leader shouted at them.
He hasn’t seen this leader since the huge warhorses were blocking the view.
After the silence, Cass’ beating heart resounded. It was abnormally loud. Of course, he was brought to another world in a book, how can he react to it?
Something was pressing against Cass’ mind. It was uncomfortable. That something has been bothering him for a while but he shook his head and tried to ignore it.
If the soldiers wouldn’t tell a thing to him then he could only wait or not.
“Are we there yet?”
None replied.
“Where are you taking me?”
“..”
“Are your mothers didn’t teach you all how to speak?”
“..”, this time, the soldiers shuddered a little but still ignored him.
“The weather is very hot today.”
“I felt like melting.”
“Is there no water here?”
“It would be refreshing if there is water.”
Only the wind replied to him but he didn’t stop.
“I’m fortunate, I’m under a shed here.”
“It must be hot in that armor, isn’t it?”
“Water. I want water.”, Cass flapped his shirt while his face was emotionless. He was only wearing a villager’s shirt and pants while barefoot. He guessed that his suit must’ve been confiscated since he’s supposed to be a guard and all.
Unknowingly, the soldiers started to sweat.
“Haaa, I think I’m gonna pass out.”, Cass huffed and seemed to be out of breath.
Clang* Cass’ head hit the metal floor when he collapsed onto it.
The surrounding soldiers were surprised and stopped.
“What happened?!”, a hoarse voice was heard.
“Sir, he collapsed.”, a soldier who was observing Cass reported as he breathed heavily.
“Wake him and let him drink some water. We can’t risk anything.”, the hoarse voice came from the front.
The soldier who was observing Cass nodded and took a water container attached to his belt and shook Cass’ shoulder. The soldier wiped his own face right after.
Cass woke up and desperately took the water container the soldier was offering. He forcefully pulled it and chugged all the water with an Ug! Ug! Ug! * sound as the water easily came down to his throat.
It made the other soldiers gulped and looked at their own water.
The soldier who offered it was surprised, “Hey! That’s my water! Don’t drink it all, you demon!”, his face became agitated as he tried to get his water from Cass but to see that it was empty.
The soldier hatefully glared with a frown at Cass for drinking all his water while clenching his teeth, wanting to tear Cass’ body apart. That was his only water, how could this demon drink it all?
However, he did not dare do anything and just climbed up to his horse.
“Huu~! That was refreshing but I need more.”
Veins popped out of the soldier’s neck, “This!”, he wanted to say: You already drank all my water and you dare to say such things?! Aren’t you supposed to be a demon?! Are all demons this weak?
But of course, he did not take his thoughts seriously. If demons are weak then they shouldn’t suffer from them.
Although the Holy Queen already predicted the places demon spies may be hiding, they aren’t sure if they caught one.
Demons aren’t this weak. They started to doubt but since their leader hasn’t said anything yet then it’s fine.
“I think I’m going to pass out again.”, Cass weakly said.
The soldiers drank their water after Cass.
“Are we there yet?”
“Where are you taking me?”
“It’s so hot.”
“Armor, hot”
“Wind, hot”
“Sun, hot”
“Everything, hot”
The soldier whose water was taken sweated furiously while heavily frowning. If only he could punch this demon’s face then all the water can all fly and begone.
“Why are there no clouds?”
“Why are there no trees?”
“Why are there no plants?”
The other soldiers ignored him but if this guy didn’t stop, they may kill him and then kill themselves from the hotness. Wait! No! It isn’t hot! It isn’t hot! It isn’t hot!
The wind blew with dust and sands flying.
“Huuu! That was refreshing. It’s fortunate that it is NOT that HOT while capturing a fucking demon!”, the soldier that has no water said childishly.
“Shut your fucking mouth, Carl! Do you serve and say the name of the Holy Queen with that fucking mouth?!”, the voice of the leader became angry.
Carl, whose water was gone looked at their leader with visible confusion
“Hihi! Yeah! Stop acting like a child, Carl!”, Cass butted in, “Stop being so noisy when it is this scorching hot!”
“What?!”, Carl angrily looked at him and glanced over his comrades expecting for some help but only got silence. His disordered breathing got rapid as sweat poured all over his body, he was gritting his teeth by the time.
“Are we there yet?”
Carl’s body was trembling and tried to ignore Cass.
“Where are you taking me?”
“Isn’t it hot?”
“Why is the sun so hot?”
“Is it because there is no water there?”
“If you ask me, I think that water is the only source of coolness.”
The soldiers’ faces got red because of irritation and because they already drank all of their water.
“Inside a steamy full armor suit, under the scorching sun, amidst the hot desert, and blown by a searing wind.”
“I want water.”
Everyone including the leader gulped. They wanted to torture this demon but they can’t do anything because there is still to prove. If they act aggressively towards him and he’s innocent. The Holy Queen hate that. They are only being cautious and bringing every suspicious man to the Holy Queen to undergo a Truth Test.
“Come to think of it, isn’t there fresh cold water underground?”
“By just digging a few meters down, we can actually get fresh cold water fresh cold water.”, Cass slowly said with an expressionless face.
“..”
“Sir, I think we need to take a rest.”, one suggested with a low and unsure voice.
“..”
“Yes, I think we do need some.”, the leader agreed. The heat made their head hazy and also because of Cass’ obnoxious comments.
“Huh? Why do you need to rest?”
All of their body twitched and stopped.
“Isn’t the horse did all the walking and carrying?*
“Did you ever think of the horse?”
“Your horse who has been there for you from the very beginning and carried you without any complains?”
How would they complain if they can’t speak? But the soldiers were unable to think this and looked at their horses.
“Aren’t they the one who needs to rest?”
“Are you all the type of people who would leave a dying horse behind because they are useless?”, Cass’ words became heavy to the soldiers’ ear.
“You didn’t even let then drink some water. You all drank yours already without concerning your horses.”
..
The soldiers are now huffing while pulling their horses with their darkened face hung low under the sun’s shadow. They walked in a very slow pace with heavy step by step, leaving deep footprints along with the warhorses’ on the scalding sand.
Their eyes rolled and glanced at the cage from time to time with the thought of killing the demon.
While Cass, on the other hand, was sleeping peacefully under the cage’s shade. He may looked like he is sleeping peacefully but he was just thinking calmly.
He was not anxious or scared anymore since based on the soldiers’ reaction, they couldn’t do anything to him.
It’s a great idea that he took risks, risks like getting beaten to know what situation he is in.
Looked like they couldn’t touch him yet. Cass didn’t think too optimistic though.
After thinking for a while, he slept for real right after. Still with something pressing against his shoulders and now on his chest very heavily.
Cass just needs to get over this so he needn’t worry. They will utmost interrogate him. After he proves his undeniable innocence, he will find what’s been bothering him.
When the soldiers saw Cass snoring and finally stopped. Their spirits were cleansed and something rejuvenated them inside.
They all inhaled relief, the obnoxious demon finally stopped his obnoxious comments. They were 95% sure that this guy is a demon
In front of them, far away, a figure of a wall with towering buildings beyond it was emerging from the horizon. It may look small at the beginning but after hours passed by, this wall stood almost a hundred meters tall! The soldiers along with the warhorses and the cage looked like ants when compared to this wall. It gave the feeling of it not being constructed by mere humans.
In the center of the massive wall was a metal gate. The gate was only half of the wall but that means that it is fifty meters tall!
If Cass was awake to see this, he will definitely yawn and then sleep.
The soldiers were already sitting on their horses right after knowing that Cass fell asleep. They unknowingly tried to protect their pride from a suspected demon spy.
When the guards of the metal gate noticed the arrival of the soldiers, they already signaled the tower which controlled the gate to open enough for the soldiers to get in.
Noises were heard right after they entered the gate that Cass woke up from it. These noises, however, were not chaotic at the very least but instead, you could hear its prosperity.
When Cass heard this, he knew that they finally arrived at the place.
He sat up and rubbed his eyes to see a busy road with a sea of people walking and some even running.
They just entered and it was already this busy, why? Cass further looked around as they moved further inside.
As they passed, the people passing by were looking at the soldiers with respect while when their sight landed onside the cage, they felt disgusted and a tinge of anger.
Cass was not bothered by this at all. After all, he was inside a cage and everybody knows that only criminals can be locked in the cage. He ignored the countless stares and looked left and right. From the gaps between people, he saw what was on the side of the road.
Different kind of stores lined up on the side of the road whether he looked left or right. Many turns they have passed by and Cass saw the residential areas.
However, this was all nothing compared to what Cass finally notice in the front. A huge castle, even taller than the massive wall, with towers surrounding it was their destination.
