A Demon Lord's Tale: Dungeons, Monster Girls, and Heartwarming Bliss - Chapter 555.1
Eldogalia’s Diary of Disciple Observation
It was several years ago that my apprentice Layla left the village.
For a demon, ten years might not seem like a very long time, but it already felt like a long time ago since she left.
Perhaps this was because the disciple I had reunited with had matured several times more than I had imagined.
It could be said as an objective fact that the Sheep Horn clan was one step ahead of the rest of the world in terms of advanced research. My apprentice grew tired of the Sheep Horn clan’s village and left to search for the unknown, and before I knew it, she had become the Demon Lord’s servant.
Or rather, now she was his wife.
In fact, there were not many Sheep Horn people who left the village.
No matter how much research was being carried out in the village, or how much knowledge was being gathered, one had to go out into the world to gain new knowledge.
Of course, it varies depending on the subject of the research, but research would not be possible without fieldwork.
To learn about new magic, one must first encounter new magic.
My apprentice Layla was not particularly researching any particular field. Everything that caught her interest was a potential research subject, and her approach to research was to cover a lot of ground in a shallow way…
Her research method was to go deeper and wider…
It seems that at the root of her desire was a wish to uncover even a single thing about the origins of the world, but to get closer to that, she sought knowledge indiscriminately.
It appears that her particular interest was in magic, but she was the kind of person who would try her hand at anything that piqued her curiosity, and conversely, if she wasn’t interested in something, she would show a clear lack of interest.
She would spend her days immersed in her research, rarely making friends or being idle.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t sociable, as I could sense her respect for her mentor and her affection for her non-blood sister, Emu.
However, Layla’s way of life was particularly extreme, even among the Sheep Horn clan’s somewhat unusual way of life.
My apprentice, who seemed to embody the Sheep Horn clan’s desire for knowledge, had a change of heart, and now had a family and was a wife.
Even though I wasn’t her biological mother, I could see that she was a mother herself as she played with the newborn babies.
In a way, I didn’t know about, not only her knowledge but also her mind and body had grown.
She was always a quick learner.
I knew she was a very capable person who could get things done easily, but I never imagined she would be able to look after her children so well.
When I saw my disciple looking like that… I couldn’t help but let a few tears fall.
It was times like this that made me realize how old I was.
As you get older, you become more susceptible to tears.
My disciple, who was always a little removed from the world even among the Sheep Horn clan, looked so happy, and so did her family.
Now that the [Gate] was installed, and I could come and go there anytime thanks to the power of the Demon Lord, I could say that they were my neighbors.
Also, I would like to continue to be friends with those children from now on.

Having written that far in her diary, Eldogalia heard the sound of the door to her room being opened and put down her pen.
There was only one person who would open Eldogalia’s room door in this house.
“What’s wrong, Emu?”
When she looked back, there was Emu, looking sleepy.
“Master~…there was a letter for you…” (Emu)
“Oh, I see. Thanks. Hmm… Oh, is it a job offer?” (Eldogalia)
Eldogalia read on through the letter.
She was a particularly famous magician even among the Sheep Horn clan.
She was widely known not only in the village but also in the outside world for her exceptional powers of analysis, deduction and reasoning, and so requests to borrow her expertise would occasionally come in.
“Hmm… An archaeological survey, that sounds interesting.” (Eldogalia)
