A Demon’s Paradise - Volume 1 Chapter 24 Shopping Again
The square was just as lively as before with people everywhere. It was about noon and everyone was out and about, shopping, going to restaurants, haggling in the market, or just out for a walk. It was a very crowded and lively scene, a nice buzz to the air.
Xia Moyin was no different, making her way towards the town market. On her way there, however, she noticed something very queer.
Everyone was staring at her. Not in an unfriendly or hostile way, but just very openly. She’d walk past a stall and people would turn their heads to look at her, unabashedly staring with slack-jawed faces. Most of the men were blushing and many were even drooling. The few women on the street would look at her as if she were a sealed treasure chest filled with unlimited riches, with a blazing reverence.
It gave her the same feeling an animal at the zoo might have, like her every move was being watched, which technically it was. It was very unnerving nonetheless. Xia Moyin quickened her pace, suddenly regretting her form of dress and not waiting for the Moon Silk Robe.
She was currently wearing a simple gray dress and black slippers, a very plain ensemble. There was no makeup on her face and her hair was down. The only thing that she was wearing to enhance her looks was the Killer Lizard mask which she had set to revert herself back to her original looks before her transformation. That was it. She didn’t even have any jewelry.
The people reacted as if she had three heads and snakes for hair, like she looked like an alien. Open stares followed her every move and made her skin shiver unconsciously. There wasn’t any reason for all the scrutiny she was gathering, other people in the square would probably gather way more attention. There was a man sitting on a bench across the street who had four heads and bright pink skin, yet they weren’t even looking at him half as weirdly as they were looking at her.
Xia Moyin sped up even more, trying to ignore the burning gazes of the people around her. After nearly twenty minutes of walking at the speed of light she finally reached the market. As soon as she went through the entrance and started browsing the stalls, the same exact thing happened, giving her no time to hide and change her looks.
Eyes followed her every move, and more than one time she caught people following behind her. She quickened her pace, making her way towards the produce section of the market.
Once she got there she worked quickly, moving from stall to stall picking up what she needed and practically throwing money at the vendor to pay for the goods before moving on, carrying everything she bought in her Cosmos Sacks.
