A Fake Holy Mother in the Zombie Apocalypse - CH 145
Chapter 145 – Come on, try out your beguiling ability on me (1)
Xiao Ji’s dad kept praising Bei Nuan’s baijiu, and even Xiao Ji’s mom tried it. But, Bei Nuan was happy only drinking the sweet rice wine.
Lu Xingchi had to cajole her to not finish off another glass.
The sky had gradually darkened. Lu Xingchi helped Bei Nuan stand up.
“She’s drunk. I’ll take her back to her room to sleep.”
Du Ruo doubtfully looked at him and warned, “Don’t take advantage of others.”
Jiang Fei stood up and reached out to support Bei Nuan. “I’ll help you.”
Lu Xingchi gently pulled Bei Nuan back to avoid Jiang Fei’s hand.
They looked at each for several seconds. Jiang Fei smiled and didn’t insist. He sat down.
Lu Xingchi took Bei Nuan back to the room.
The house wasn’t small. Xiao Ji’s mom had cleaned out a room just for Bei Nuan. There was no electricity. Xiao Ji’s mom had already taken out the oil lamps they used when there was a power outage and placed one on the bedside table.
Lu Xingchi put Bei Nuan down on the bed and had her sit there. Using the light from outside, he lit the lamp and adjusted the brightness.
The light from the lamp flickered like jumping beans inside the half-opened glass cover. The smell of oil drifted out.
Bei Nuan rested her elbows on the table and watched Lu Xingchi fiddling with the lamp.
Bei Nuan suddenly said, “Lu Xingchi, I feel so tired.”
Lu Xingchi turned to look at her and didn’t say anything.
Bei Nuan continued to say, “I’ve been forced to travel so far. I’m busy every day. I don’t actually want to go anywhere. I just want to stay in a place like this. Work when the sun rises and rest at sunset. Drink rice wine and tease cats when I’m bored and be buried at the back of the mountain when I die. That’s pretty good.”
Lu Xingchi nochantly said, “You’re a newbie player. You haven’t even left the novice village and you want to settle here to live in a seclusion? Do you think there’ll be order and peace just because there’s people here? Did you forget how they quarreled at the top of the mountain?”
Bei Nuan immediately wilted.
Lu Xingchi smiled and sat down next to her. He hugged her and stroked her head.
“We’ll find a safe place where you can peacefully drink your rice wine someday.”
Bei Nuan looked up at him. Her face was half in shadow and had a golden glow from the lamp. They were so close. Her eyes were hazy from the rice wine and not as clear as usual.
Lu Xingchi restrained himself and stroked her head. “It’s late. Go to sleep.”
Bei Nuan obediently nodded. She pulled the pillow over and stuck it under her.
In her reclined state, her assault jacket was wide open. It was very hot, so she was wearing a tight white t-shirt instead of a thick stab-resistant top.
Lu Xingchi’s gaze drifted down from her face.
Bei Nuan’s voice suddenly broke the silence. “What are you looking at?”
Lu Xingchi noticed what he was doing and felt a bit embarrassed.
In a “I caught you” tone, Bei Nuan said, “Lu Xingchi, you’re taking advantage of my drunkenness to find where I hid my pocket space item, right?”
She batted her eyelashes as if she thought she was so clever. She looked very smug.
“I hid it very well. You’ll never find it.” Bei Nuan was immeasurably satisfied with herself. If she had a tail, it would be raised to the sky.
Lu Xingchi collected his thoughts that had run amok. “Yeah, you’re amazing. I definitely can’t find it.”
She looked ten years younger in her drunk state.
Feeling guilty, Lu Xingchi zipped her jacket.
Bei Nuan didn’t move. She looked confused. “I’m going to sleep soon. Why are you helping me get dressed?”
She sat up and had to struggle to unzip her jacket. She tossed it to the side.
Lu Xingchi gritted his teeth.
“Okay, go to sleep.” Lu Xingchi turned down the oil lamp and stood up.
When he got to the door, he heard her sigh behind him, turn over, and quietly lament, “I really want to stay here.”
