A Fake Holy Mother in the Zombie Apocalypse - CH 146
Chapter 146 – Come on, try out your beguiling ability on me (2)
The next day, Lu Xingchi wanted to leave right after he was done eating. He wanted to finish teaching the townspeople the stuff he didn’t get to yesterday: how to kill zombies, how to quickly do lethal damage, and how to protect themselves from getting infected while doing so.
Before leaving, he looked at Du Ruo. Everyone had relaxed a lot after the crisis passed yesterday.
Du Ruo, Xiao Ji, and Tang Tang were in a circle and kicking around a feathered shutterstock. They were happily playing around.
These three, they looked completely unreliable.
Lu Xingchi had no choice. He could only look at Jiang Fei.
“Watch her, don’t let her run around by herself,” Lu Xingchi requested.
“Okay,” Jiang Fei agreed with a smile. He added, “Don’t worry too much. She’s not a kid.”
Bei Nuan had heard them and protested, “Yeah, the town is only so big. The gate is closed. Where can I run to?”
Lu Xingchi smiled and left.
As soon as Lu Xingchi left, Bei Nuan slipped out.
Puzzled, Du Ruo asked Jiang Fei, “Didn’t Lu Xingchi ask you to watch Bei Nuan?”
Jiang Fei answered with a smile, “The zombie has been dealt with. There shouldn’t be anything else wrong with this place. It’s rare to find such a safe place. She’s been so stifled. Let her go out to play.”
—
Lu Xingchi’s day was too busy. He ate lunch with the townspeople instead of going back. By the time he got back, it was already very late, and Bei Nuan was already asleep.
Lu Xingchi hesitated outside her door for a long time. In the end, he couldn’t put down his worries, and cracked open her door and snuck in like a thief.
She was peacefully sleeping with a sweet smile. She must be having a good dream.
Lu Xingchi stood by her bed for a while. Fortunately, everything had been smoothly resolved, and she wasn’t injured. He calculated the time. They could leave after tomorrow.
—
The next day, Lu Xingchi left early in the morning. He finished the training as fast as possible and returned to Xiao Ji’s home before noon.
Du Ruo and Tang Tang had gone out with Xiao Ji to go play. Jiang Fei was in the backyard taking care of the vegetables with Xiao Ji’s dad.
Bei Nuan’s shadow couldn’t be found.
Lu Xingchi didn’t even have to think to know where she went.
Lu Xingchi asked around and found Xie Yuanqing’s place at the top of the mountain. The guard at the door let him in after he only reported his name.
Sure enough, Bei Nuan was here.
She was sitting by herself in the wicker chair underneath the flower archway and holding Xie Yuanqing’s yellow cat. Her hair was softly curled, and she was wearing a big blue and white batik shawl. The fringe on the shawl gently rippled as she stroked the cat, and the tips of her wavy hair was shiny under the sun.
She looked so unfamiliar, like a different person. She looked like some big boss’s woman.
Seeing Lu Xingchi, Bei Nuan came out of her daze and squeezed out a smile. She happily asked, “Are you also here to drink tea?”
Lu Xingchi didn’t answer. He surveyed the courtyard for metal objects, and then he looked for Xie Yuanqing.
Xie Yuanqing came out of the house with his subordinate, who was carrying out an ebony tea tray with a full tea set on it.
He didn’t look surprised at all when he saw Lu Xingchi. On the contrary, he smiled.
“You came just in time. I was about to ask Bei Nuan to try this tea. She also has something she wants to tell you. Bei Nuan?”
Bei Nuan looked up and beautifully smiled at Lu Xingchi.
“Lu Xingchi, I thought about it for a long time. I decided to not leave and stay here,” she said in a light and sincere voice, “Haven’t you wanted to find a good place to leave me? I think this place is good. I don’t want to follow you any further.”
“That’s right,” Xie Yuanqing added, “Yao Town is relatively remote. There’s not many zombies. It can be considered safe.”
Bei Nuan solemnly nodded and said with emotion, “It’s very safe here. There’s very few zombies nearby.”
Xie Yuanqing continued, “As long as we guard the town gate, we can keep this paradise safe.”
Bei Nuan continued to solemnly nod. “The gate is very important! Has to be properly guarded!”
Xie Yuanqing couldn’t resist smiling at her. “Even if you find a safe zone, it might not be better than this place.”
Bei Nuan echoed his words like a parrot. “A safe zone might not be as good as this place.”
Xie Yuanqing sat down and poured the boiling water over the teapot. White steam spiraled up.
“I can guarantee her safety. You don’t have to worry.”
Bei Nuan tilted her head like a fool and generously waved at Lu Xingchi. “He can guarantee my safety. Don’t worry! You can leave without any worries!”
Lu Xingchi: “…”
