A Fake Holy Mother in the Zombie Apocalypse - CH 159
Chapter 159 – What do the letters on the tags mean? (3)
The young man mysteriously continued, “A few days ago, a very big, muscular guy came onto the island. It was rumored that he used to do underground illegal boxing, but Old Hu gave him an F tag. That guy didn’t believe in the Old Hu’s ability either. He did whatever he wanted. It didn’t take him long to rob someone. He was successful, but he tripped and fell on the other guy’s knife.”
The young man added, “The guy that he stole from was short and thin and had a B tag. The B guy’s thighs weren’t even as thick as the boxer’s arms. This wasn’t the first time that something like this has happened. It’s always been like this.”
Bei Nuan reflexively clutched her metal tag, unable to speak.
The young man continued to say, “So for Old Hu to give you a F tag, it means you’ll definitely die.”
Bei Nuan found a flaw in his reasoning and countered, “What’s so unusual about that? Who will live forever? Everyone will die one day.”
The young man actually smiled in response. “It means you’ll die, and you’ll die soon, especially in this apocalyptic world.”
His tone and gaze were eerie, which frightened her. Bei Nuan shivered.
Bei Nuan suddenly realized why that group of thieves had fled as soon as they saw Lu Xingchi’s tag. There was no one on this island that would fight with someone fated to not die. To do otherwise would only result in their demise, so of course they would flee as far as they could.
“Don’t listen to his nonsense,” Lu Xingchi let go of the young man and said to Bei Nuan.
The young man didn’t dare to refute Lu Xingchi and silently slipped away.
The team continued their stroll.
There was at least one thing the young man was right about; there were very few people with an A tag.
Du Ruo had left his tag hanging outside of his clothes. Many people look at the tag on his chest with envious gazes.
Bei Nuan thought; so what if she had an F tag? Since she knew that Du Ruo had gotten an A tag from Old Hu just by badgering him, the credibility of the metal tag was greatly lowered.
Soon, her attention was attracted by the strange things available for sale in the market, and she completely forgot about the metal tags.
While strolling, Bei Nuan found a stall selling barbecued birds. These birds were smaller than quails and looked like small sparrows. There was a fire next to the stall, and the defeathered birds were grilled over the fire with a sizzling sound. The aroma of the barbecue could be smelled halfway down the street.
The person who had set up the stall was a thin and small child that looked to be 8 or 9 years old. The kid had a dirty face and a buzz cut.
However, based on a gut feeling, Bei Nuan thought the kid was a girl.
As Bei Nuan examined the barbecued sparrows, the girl asked, “Are you the F that’s with several A’s?”
Gossip spread fast here, and everyone seemed to know this.
Bei Nuan generously pulled out her F tag to show the girl.
The girl saw Bei Nuan’s F tag, and her reaction wasn’t as big as the young man’s.
She glanced at the men standing behind Bei Nuan and lowered her voice to say, “I think you’ll be better off staying away from them. You might live longer that way.”
Bei Nuan became interested. “Why?”
Bei Nuan’s face was as pure and beautiful as an angel’s. With the halo effect, people couldn’t help but like her. The young girl patiently explained.
As it turned out, although this was a place where the strong preyed on the weak and all sorts of illegal activities ran rampant, it wasn’t completely anarchy. The people had organically come up with a rule, which was separation of class.
Of course, this rule was established by the bandits that were originally stationed on the island. They controlled the resources on the island, and their lives were completely different from the laborers at the bottom. No one dared to provoke them; anyone that did so would surely die a miserable death.
The laborers on the bottom were also divided into groups based on their metal tags. For example, someone with a D tag would never hang out with someone with a B tag.
The reason was very simple. In this place where it was easy to lose one’s life, if a B and a D were together, and they encountered something dangerous and one person was going to die, it would most likely be the D. Thus, people felt it was safer and fairer to be with people that had the same tags as them.
