A Fake Holy Mother in the Zombie Apocalypse - CH 167
Chapter 167 – You want to feed the zombies? (2)
Du Ruo suddenly pointed into the distance. “Look, there’s people coming onto the island again.”
They were standing halfway up the mountain, and their field of vision was wide. They could see far away.
Bei Nuan saw a boat docking on the pier. The boat was older than the one she had stolen, but it was big and wide. It looked like it was used for transporting cargo.
A group of people were carrying metal cages down from the boat. There was something moving in the cages, but it was too dark inside the cages, and they were too far away. She couldn’t make out what was inside the cages.
Du Ruo was engrossed in analyzing. “What could be in the cages? Animals? They wouldn’t be setting up a zoo on the island, right?”
Bei Nuan retorted, “No way. It’s probably prey.”
A few people passed by them, and one of them answered, “Neither. The people from the casino caught back a few zombies again.”
What? They caught zombies?
Bei Nuan didn’t dare to believe what she was hearing. Humans were supposed to run away from zombies, and these people brought zombies onto the island?
Those people saw Bei Nuan’s surprised expression and smiled. They were used to the strange behavior of those in charge.
One of them said, “The zombies are used for their gambling. They lock a zombie and a human into a big metal cage and bet who the winner will be.”
There was something wrong with their brains to come up with the rotten idea of pitting humans against zombies for entertainment.
Still, speak of the devil. She had just been worried about not having zombies and being unable to complete her task. And now, these people had delivered fresh zombies.
On the dock, the group of people loaded the metal cages with the zombies onto a flatbed truck and entered the safe area through the gate. The people that had brought back the zombies were checked over injuries, and the truck with the metal cages was parked by the gate.
Many people on the island hadn’t seen zombies in a while, and they gathered around the truck for fun.
Her compassion task suddenly took a turn for the better. The most difficult part of the task was to find zombies. Now that there were zombies, the rest was easy. All she had to do was run to the metal cages, throw beef jerky in there, and she should have the task completed. She couldn’t miss this opportunity.
Bei Nuan promptly made the decision. She told Du Ruo that she had to go to the bathroom and slipped away. She sprinted down the mountain and through the large market to the gate.
However, she was still too late. The people transporting the zombies had already completed the process of being checked over for injuries and the flatbed truck was gone from the gate. But, the driver of the truck wasn’t driving the truck fast, and the people that had come over to look at the spectacle were still following the truck.
Now that Bei Nuan had gotten closer, she could see there were zombies inside the cages. These zombies impatiently bared their teeth.
The cages looked very sturdy, and the welded metal bars were thick. Inside of each cage, there was barbed wire. The zombies in the cages wouldn’t be able to get to the humans at all. It was very safe.
When Bei Nuan was running over here, she was worried it would be too incongruous to throw beef jerky into the cages, but that wasn’t the case at all. There was a group of naughty children following the flatbed truck and throwing small stones and sticks into the cages. There was a volley of small stones, but most of them missed their mark.
Bei Nuan immediately moved. She mixed into the gaggle of kids and threw the beef jerky into a cage as hard as she could.
Everyone else in the group was a small sprout. Bei Nuan was much taller and stuck out like a crane in a flock of chickens. Even so, the most important thing was to complete the task. She was doing this for the blocks of hot water and ice cream.
Unfortunately, the flatbed truck was going too fast, and its speed was accelerating. Her aim wasn’t good enough, and there was the densely woven barbed wire in her way. None of her throws made it.
As the truck accelerated, the kids gave up, only Bei Nuan persevered and conscientiously continued with trying to throw beef jerky into the cages.
A little boy persuaded Bei Nuan, “Big Sis, we can’t catch up. Let’s give up on throwing stuff at the zombies and go play with marbles?”
Bei Nuan: “…”
The flatbed truck passed through the narrowest and most crowded section of the market. It suddenly accelerated and spewed out a large cloud of exhaust. Bei Nuan was left in the dust.
Holding the beef jerky, Bei Nuan blankly stood in the middle of the road for a while.
Bei Nuan tried to encourage herself. She had already completed so many tricky tasks. What was there to be afraid of? This would be a piece of cake.
“Little Brother,” Bei Nuan turned around to ask the little boy who asked her to play marbles, “Do you know where the casino is?”
