A Fantasy Nerd Transported To Another World - Volume 1 Chapter 3
As the dragon gazed at Ethan, driving fear into his heart, the young female captain of the knights who was about Ethan’s age, saw an opportunity. The dragon was inexplicably distracted by this young man wearing strange clothes making it the perfect time for her to strike. She lunged forward using most of what little mana she had left to create a wind spell to assist her in jumping quickly toward the dragon’s face, nailing it in the right eye with her broadsword. The sword entered right at the center of the pupil and went in about twenty centimeters before getting stuck. She let go of the sword and jumped down to the ground as the dragon let out a blood curdling cry much louder than the earlier roar which Ethan had heard and which had left all of the conscious knights with ringing ears. The five remaining knights rushed toward their beloved captain and helped her up. The dragon for a moment looked like it was going to retaliate against the knights, but then glanced back at Ethan and then backed away from the knights a few meters. The knights saw this as their chance and let out something that sounded like a war cry and charged the dragon. The dragon looked like it was about to use a slash from its claws to kill all of the charging knights, but then looked at Ethan again and fled the clearing. As it entered into the forest, maneuvering its long and narrow body through the trees, the sword was still stuck in its eye.
With the immediate threat gone, the captain of the knights turned toward Ethan and began walking towards him with a slight limp. Ethan was relieved to see that the terrifying monster was gone, but now found that another terrifying monster was approaching him. She was at least 195 cm tall with a muscular build and her golden blonde hair cut to shoulder length. Like all of her subordinates who were still conscious, she had been exhausted, bruised badly, and low on mana during the fight with the dragon. While walking toward Ethan as quickly as her injuries would permit, she drew a dagger that was sheathed on her belt and shouted some words at Ethan. To Ethan, the words sounded vaguely germanic, but they were not in any language that he understood. Seeing that he wasn’t responding, she repeated the same words more forcefully this time and quickened her pace slightly, with two of her subordinates drawing their swords and following her as the other three were working on healing the unconscious knights.
“I-I can’t understand a word you’re saying!” Said Ethan nervously as he raised both of his hands as if surrendering. Hearing his words that she couldn’t understand, and seeing his non threatening motions, she paused and looked slightly confused for a moment, but then shouted more words at him and continued closing the distance. As she got within arms reach of him, she threw him onto the ground and tied his hands behind his back. [Wow, despite looking like she is injured she’s surprisingly strong.] thought Ethan as he was getting pushed to the ground. One of the two knights that followed her calmly said some words to her as he pointed at Ethan who was laying on the ground with his hands tied behind his back. The other knight had almost the exact same appearance as the first, as if they were twin brothers, and he also said some words to their captain in the same tone as the first. The female captain then said something that sounded like an angry retort, and the two knights that had spoken up then said something in an apologetic tone.
[Well, she’s clearly in charge here, and I don’t think that she likes me very much. It would be helpful if I could at least understand what she is saying. At this rate I’ll be killed before my otherworld adventure even begins.] thought Ethan pessimistically.
She gave some orders to the two men that had followed her. The two knights then helped the restrained Ethan to his feet, searched him for any hidden weapons and led him toward the center of the clearing where the remaining three knights were healing the unconscious knights that were still alive. She then picked up his smartphone and examined it with a puzzled expression on her face.
