A God’s Apocalyptic Entertainment - Chapter 144 Library Battle Part 3
The arrow exploded and created a lot of noise disorientating me, my ears bled as the noise cracked my skull back. That wasn’t all as it also gave off a bright white light that seared my eyes.
It was like a god damn flash bang!
I felt a tremor in the ground and pieces of debris hit me as the group stormed into the room. I didn’t have time to think as another loud sound went off.
*BANG!!!!!*
It wasn’t as loud as the last one, but it still packed a punch. I felt the intense heat produced and knew that Rose’s spike had gone off.
Given a short bit of time I snapped my eyes open and finally could see what was happening around me. And as I opened my eyes I watched as a glowing shield came hurtling towards my face.
‘Shield Bash!’
I knew the skill that was hurtling towards me and the power behind it, if that hit my head I would be dead. Thankfully for me his speed was slightly slower than mine, giving me enough time to wave my hand in front of me.
I produced another shield out of my space ring and watched it get blown backwards. It did crash into me and spend me flying, but I didn’t die.
“Argh!”
From the side I heard the scream of somebody and took a quick peak. A man with a disfigured body and different facial features was reaching for his eyes. His hands where melted from the intense heat and I think his eyes got destroyed.
Looking at his body that was a mix between beast and man I knew that he was an Evos, a shapeshifting person, whose sole goal is to evolve into the ultimate being. All the people that pick the class want to make themselves better, stronger, faster, even if that means making themselves look that ugly or forsaking their humanity.
And yes it can work, he was probably the one to track us, maybe a wolf’s sense of smell or something similar was used. He was unlucky in the fact that the explosion had hurt him more, because of these traits.
I didn’t have time to look at him though; Ella had to deal with that side while I dealt with the person in front of me.
The leader, I was sure, stood at a good height, he wore full body armour that matched the rogue we had killed before. Except this time it was plate armour not leather. He had shoulder Pauldrons and even a helmet for go sakes.
I could only see his eyes that were staring at me with hatred from where I stood. I had crashed through a few book shelves but otherwise was still fine. I got up quickly and watched as he moved in. He didn’t want to give me time to recover.
I griped the dagger in my hand and saw the glint of fury that went through his eyes, as he looked at the weapon in my hands. Just perfect, I thought to myself.
Just behind him I could see a woman in mage ware that was tailored like the rest, she handled a staff and had it pointed my way, a small glow coming from it. She was taking her time to cast a spell meaning it would do a lot more damage than usual. I couldn’t concentrate on what Ella and Rose was doing, and I couldn’t expect them to help me.
I would need to take the mage out first; I never knew when she might interfere. I inched closer to the centurion and kept my guard up, my aura was gushing out trying to lock him down, but it had a minimal affect.
Suddenly the weapon in his right hand lit up and he used a skill, I had no clue what it did so I decided not to let it touch me. Stepping back I avoided the hit and because I was expecting the follow up I wasn’t caught in the swinging shield that came in afterwards.
Missing me with his shield hit, he wasn’t thrown off balance and had full control of his body; missing me he went back into a fighting position and got ready for the next strike. I gritted my teeth as I knew I didn’t have enough time, facing 2 people I was at a huge disadvantage.
The scream of the man outside my vision had stopped and I heard some screams and cursing from their side, but as I was concentrating I couldn’t tell what was happening. Once again the sword lit up in his hands and he stepped forwards to attack me, this time I decided to step in and try to strike him.
Obviously this wasn’t a good move as his shield would push me back from a close distance, but I couldn’t keep in this stalemate.
*Hua*
I gulped in a breath of air as I stepped in.
*Whoosh*
And blew it out when I grew closer. I had infused ice energy into the breath making it a chilling wind that could cause damage at close range. But the centurion was prepared for this as he steadily raised his shield and peered at me through his visor, I knew that wouldn’t work.
Swiping my foot forwards once or twice I backed off and waited for him to come. He still peered at me through the visor before taking a step forwards.
*Slip*
And that was my chance, his heavy metal boots slide on the ice underneath his foot and I quickly bounded forwards, unleashing all my speed. Thrown off balance from the unexpected slip, I shoulder charged into his figure to throw his body and almost got stopped there.
His armour was heavy beyond belief and almost stopped me from my goal.
“Argh!”
Screaming out loud I put more strength into my push and watched as he fell to the side. Not wasting the chance I started to sprint towards the Mage. All I saw when I started making my way forwards was her smirking face.
‘Well now what?’
That thought appeared in my head as I saw the mass of energy in her hand, she had been casting for a long time now and the energy was many times greater than usual, I had no clue how much she had put into the skill. But I did know that this could kill me.
As I started to think of a plan, a calm voice entered my head.
‘I’ve got this.’
Hearing that I didn’t falter any longer and sprinted forwards, I didn’t know what the mage was waiting for but she just stared at me as I made my way forwards, the smile still tugging at her lips. I couldn’t tell what she was about to throw at me, I couldn’t see the characteristics of fire ball, or water ball, or any element for that matter, in her attack. If I had to guess, maybe it was an Air attack?
And just as I closed within 2 meters of her, her smile widened and she let loose her spell. My eyes opened wide as I watched in slow motion an earth wall appear between both of us. Rose had counted it exactly, raising it in the face of the attack.
Just to be sure I also moved a bit to the right.
*Crack*
The earth wall cracked and splintered as the spell pulverized it, but thanks to the wall, I was able to tank the rest of the damage. Not expecting this to happen, the woman’s face finally turned into one of surprise and terror.
Not giving her time to think I swung the dagger at her neck, but she reacted fast. Retreating, she raised her staff and fired off another air attack.
“Urgh.”
An unseen air ball impacted my body and I was forced to stop for a second. It was a lot weaker than her last attack but still packed a punch. I had to close the distance. I could already see I had the advantage in speed but with her instant attacks I would make no head way.
Tapping into our connection for a second that put stress on all of us, I hurriedly made an earth spike under her feet; the attack that she was charging to send my way was interrupted as her foot was lifter. Her gear was good enough that the spike didn’t go through but this threw her even more off balance.
I finally got within 1 meter of her as I felt a presence from behind me; the centurion was about to catch up, this was my only chance. Flustered the mage sent another attack my way but I focused all my ice in front of me, I basically covered my body in ice for a second. I layered it one over the other to make a small type of layer.
*Crack*
The layer of ice I shuttled over myself was instantly destroyed but I wasn’t stopped from moving forwards. I made a small smile as I finally reached the mage and in desperation she swung her staff at me.
I dodge the clumsy swing and went in for a slash, at that exact moment the mage went again for another instant cast magic. This time from point blank range, out of instinct my hand reached out and ice coalesced in my hand.
An icicle burst going straight through the amalgamation of energy and stuck into her gut. The pain must have thrown her concentration off as the energy dissipated, and in that millisecond the dagger flew up and took her head.
“NOOOO!!!! DELVINA!!!!!!!”
I heard a scream from behind me and felt a shield slam into my back.
