A God’s Apocalyptic Entertainment - Chapter 173 Stalling For Time
My words incited him, I saw his face morph at my words and he lunged forwards. For such a calm commander, from what I had seen, I must have hit a sore point.
I quickly lifted my halberd and lunged myself. I had the extra reach in this fight and my weapon reached him first. Just as the tip was about to hit his body, he noticed his mistake and the anger in his eyes cleared up. The glint in his eyes changed and sharpened as he quickly withdrew his attack and turned as fast as he could.
But it was too late my weapon slammed into his shoulder piecing his gear. The force behind my blow forced his body over and I quickly retracted my attack. He groaned in pain as I flashed a small victory smile to myself.
I was about to close in and kill him before someone behind me attacked.
*Clack*
I felt their weapon clash against my armour and bounce off, but it was enough of a distraction. In the short time that I was distracted and off balance, the commander rolled away and jumped to his feet. I scowled at the now standing opponent and turned around to my attacker.
I had a higher agility, so before he could react I reached up and grabbed his neck. Funneling my ice control into my hands the moment my fingers touched his unprotected neck it stated to freeze over. I squeezed with my strength and his neck instantly broke.
I didn’t have time to realize how gruesome that death truly was, before I spun back to block a blow from my opponent. Even with a huge hole in his shoulder, that was dripping red with blood, the power behind his attack was strong.
He favored one side now though as his left arm was out of commission. Taken by surprise at the strength behind his blow, I was nearly knocked off my feet as he gave a lightning quick slash at my face. I turned my weapon up to meet his but miss timed it.
His weapon struck right on the handle of my halberd and created sparks. I quickly drew it back and retreated as his sword started to slide down towards my fingers.
*Ha* Hah*
*Badum* *Badum*
My breath and heart rate sped up at the clash and I had to dodge quickly from another slash from behind. I had forgotten for a second while fighting the commander that I was still completely surrounded. Even if the mages were occupied by Hunter I was by myself facing a group of combatants.
I quickly spun myself around swinging my weapon in an arc to force a few people back, trying to regain my bearings. I cursed myself for getting caught up in the moment and tried to keep my mind on my surroundings.
Another person lunged at me from the side so I jumped back. While he was off balance I closed in and punched him in the side of the neck. His body dropped like a sack of potatoes.
I had to keep most of my attention on the command that was shadowing me and looking for an opportunity to strike as I dealt with those around me. I wouldn’t have another chance like before. He wouldn’t let his emotions run rampant again.
I continued with my defense as I cut down anyone else that went for an attack. I had trouble blocking some of the bows from the commander, but he hadn’t been able to get within reach for now. As long as I kept him at a distance I would be fine.
The strain from fighting everyone was starting to take its toll at this point as my mind was stretched thin. I couldn’t suppress everyone with my aura, to keep them back, and they bandits were unrelenting. Thankfully I had started to notice that the commander, the one I really had to worry about, was starting to get slower and slower.
The injury that I had inflicted before was starting to look a lot worse and his body language was failing. His face, which I could just see, was starting to become pale from the loss of blood. All I had to do was wait it out and he would die.
I could see that he was starting to get desperate as his body deteriorated. Once he was down, he knew that I could kill the rest of his people. Even now I had thinned out the heard. The once 100 men that had been split up were dwindling down to maybe 20.
There were less people coming in to attack me, afraid of death. This was giving me enough time to get my breath back. The smile that had faded from my face started to return, ever so slowly. But this time I wouldn’t get cocky, or forget myself.
Just a little bit longer, a little bit longer.
I had just parried another blow from the commander, which was at deaths door, a small sound went off.
*Beep*
His EPC lit up as he retreated, slowly looked at whatever was on the screen. His face turned to one of relief and confidence once he read the message. I felt my gut churn as that same bad feeling returned.
Oh shit!
I completely forgot that the big boss was still coming! Anyone that could make this guy their subordinate, was sure to be powerful. Hopefully something I could handle, but even then I was starting to run low on energy!
I don’t know if I had any time left!

(Geerards’ PoV)
Shit!
Shit!!!
SHIT!!!
I completely lost myself at his damn words. And now….
I sent a small look at the gaping wound in my shoulder. The blood was still flowing out of it, a deep red. I grit my teeth as I backed off again. Half my body felt like it was on fire and I was starting to become weak. I hadn’t been this injured in years.
“Argh!”
Another one of my men was cut down in front of me as I watched this High Human fight. Our weapons couldn’t do anything against his armour, it was too tough. Maybe we could knock him off balance and bruise him from the blunt force trauma, but we couldn’t slice through it.
My men had been fighting pretty well; while I distracted him at the front, they would go for sneak attacks, but if we couldn’t cut through it then what was the point?
My sword was starting to become too heavy to lift as I suddenly heard a noise.
*Beep*
I looked down at my EPC as a small thought came to mind.
‘Yes!’
My eyes drifted over the message. She was almost here, maybe another minute! We could hold out for that long!
I looked up a small smile gracing my lips. The High Human looked back and I could see him frown. I backed off even more I didn’t have to fight so desperately anymore.
Looking around we were low on numbers. I don’t know where the rogue had gone to, he had been dealing with the mages, but they were all dead now. He might have gone to deal with the rest, and looking around I didn’t blame him.
There were only 15 of us left now and that number wouldn’t last long. If I hadn’t been stupid and gotten injured a lot more would be alive. The dead bodies of my brothers were littered on the ground, some still groaning in pain, but they would be dead soon if they didn’t get any health potions.
We were both panting for breath waiting for time now, in his eyes I could see he realized what was happening. I had only ever seen ‘her’ in action once, but that was all I needed to see, to never question her again. Once she arrived all would be good. Though losing all these men might get me in some trouble.
And then the High human did something I wasn’t expecting; he turned his back on me and rushed those around us. He was trying to cut the numbers down to just me! I tried to rush forwards to stop him, but my body wasn’t responding properly. My speed had dropped tremendously and I couldn’t keep up.
“Stay BACK!”
“Urgh”
“Argh”
“Die”
My men were dropping fast and I couldn’t do anything!
Damnit!
I pushed my body as fast as it could go!
