A God’s Apocalyptic Entertainment - Chapter 187 Ominous Signs
I had an ominous feeling, the moment I woke up. I don’t know what it was that tipped me off, or what sense was triggered, I just had that gut feeling again. The gut feeling that superseded my danger sense, somehow.
The temperature had risen again as we cleared room after room, but it was when we reached a certain level that everything changed. We had started to let the kids get the finishing blows on the titans so they wouldn’t be so useless in fights, but it was a work in progress.
Thoughts plagued me as we cleared room after room, ‘Where were the people?’ ‘The bodies’. The rumors said that people had been disappearing left right and center in town. I didn’t stay long enough to check, but seeing as it was considered a major problem; it had to be quite a number.
We had found that body when we reached the entrance, the mangled corpse. But now that we traversed the area, nothing was found. Not hide nor hair of a person, no corpse, no bones, nothing. Seeing as we were in a lava dungeon, it was possible that the bodies couldn’t be found, but I was hoping for some sign of people being here.
There was no armour from other adventurers, no ripped pieces of cloth. Just dirt, gravel, rock and lava. Actually it was getting so bad I was considering getting something to cover our mouths. Breathing in all the ash and impurities in here wouldn’t do us good.
But I was off topic. We had reached a certain tunnel when I felt the shift in the atmosphere. Both literally and figuratively. Somehow the temperature spiked by 10 degrees, instantly bringing a sheen of sweat to my forehead, but at the same time there was a cold chill that went down my spine.
There was a type of sinister air about the cavern we were in that rubbed me the wrong way. Everyone tensed as we stepped into the area. It was sudden and we had no warning, it was like we stepped into an isolated bubble.
Having assessed the dungeon for a long time, I knew this wasn’t normal. The temperature would rise gradually as we went from one area to the next, but this time it didn’t. In a second we all had our weapons drawn.
We hadn’t reached the main cavern yet and were still situated in the tunnel leading in. Sending a small look towards Hunter at the back, he gave a small nod, a nervous look appeared on his smug face. We had talked a lot over the last few days.
Having cleared numerous rooms, and traveled so far into the dungeon, it was only a matter of time before we reached the end. Even though I would love to grind more exp, the titans weren’t a challenge anymore, we needed to move on.
Hunter speculated a day ago that we were close to the end, and that “We would know, when we reach the boss”. Continuing to walk forwards, I totally agree with him. Thinking back to the only other dungeon I’ve seen and remembering that boss and how many people that crazed elf sacrificed, I started to mentally prepare myself.
The corridor continued to wind on for minutes, which soon turned into an hour. It had never taken this long between areas. My senses were high enough to feel the rising fear in the kids behind me. Rose and Ella radiated auras of confidence and a fighting spirit, while Hunter had a calm and collected aura projecting out. Though I could feel a little bit of how nervous he really was.
This sense was something I had cultivated when we practiced at night. By attuning myself to the energies around me, I could control our connection better, as well as Ice. Though I still had little progress when using Fire or Earth type energies, I was on my way.
With the higher attunement I started to develop a sort of 360 degree sense around myself. I could only faintly feel the moisture in the air, especially in this humid and hot dungeon. But it was enough to let me assess my surroundings.
I was still thinking of a name for this new type of ‘Spirit Sense’, but seeing as there was no real point naming such a skill, I’d think about it later.
“NOOOOO PLEASE NOOOO!!!!”
We were still walking down the corridor when the voice reached us. I instantly stopped in my tracks and communicated with Rose and Ella. Sending a small glance back at Hunter, he also had a worried look. Thoughts raced through my mind as I thought of our options.
I wasn’t a heartless person, but whatever had this person scarred would be an enemy. I couldn’t just run into an area without looking at the situation. A little dilemma flooded my mind as I thought if we should rush forwards or not.
The communication between me and Rose escalated as she immediately wanted to rush forwards. I sent her a look and stared into her eyes as they stared back at me. There was steel in them that I had gotten used to.
Out of all of us, she was the most compassionate. Maybe it was because of her connection to earth, or maybe it was because she used to be a slave and wanted to help others. I wouldn’t bother making a guess.
She wanted to rush in right now, while I tried to reason with her how dangerous it could be. In the end we couldn’t waste time having a mental conversation. Rushing forwards towards the sound, a bit of light could be seen as the tunnels end finally came into sight.
As we got closer and closer, the continuous sound of thumping started to sound.
*Thump* *Thump* *Thump*
It was rhythmic and repetitive, and only got louder as we got closer. Finally only a few meters away from the entrance, we started to slow down. Rose wasn’t happy, but we couldn’t rush in there blind.
Looking into the room I stared dumbly for a few seconds. A huge pool of lava was at the center of the room. Around the lava were numerous titans that were stomping their feet in a certain fashion. Off to the side some of the variants were dipping their hands into the pool and seemed to be sending their energy into the center.
Completely opposite to where we were and on the other side of the pool were a bunch of humans that were being man handled by the giant titans. The bodies were in pretty good shape even though they were being handled roughly.
Their shouts and struggles meant nothing as the Titans were herding them towards the pool and the biggest Titan I had ever laid my eyes on. Where the other Titans could be considered behemoths standing at 8 meters in height, this one was truly a giant. Standing at 15 meters or more it was making rough noises as it awaited the humans.
I had no clue what the thing was saying, but I could tell from a single glance that some type of ritual was taking place. The pool of lava was burning brightly, maybe too bright. There was some type of energy that was coming out from it.
The humans screamed louder and louder as they got closer to being thrown in. I had to think fast if I wanted to get them out of this alive.
‘Yeap, today was going to be shit.’
