- Chapter 28 Choux A La Creme Et Le Chocolat Chaud
Gus returned to the living room and saw it in a different way. It was obvious that the kids have made an effort in making the living room as comfortable as it can be. Pillows and blankets are scattered everywhere. Old plates and mugs have already been set on their makeshift table while aged chairs are set neatly beside the table. When Cindy saw Gus at the door, she immediately lined up excitedly
“Welcome back, Mr. Gus!” said Cindy.
Everybody else lined up and gave Gus a respectful salute.
for visiting.
“Good job, Kitchen Brigade! Your work has made me proud!” said Gus.
The smiles on their faces just became wider as they were excited for the treats they will enjoy tonight. Gus stepped forward and knelt in front of Cindy.
“I promised you something sweet, right?” asked Gus.
Cindy nodded shamefully with a wider grin.
“Actually, it’s more like you forced me to promise you, but I would do it for you, nonetheless! Cindy, would you accompany me, and fetch Ms. Sarah and our guests? It would be a shame if it’s only us who gets to enjoy these treats.”
Cindy nodded bashfully.
“I’ll get them for you, Mr. Gus,” said Cindy.
But before she stepped out of the door, she came back to Gus and hugged him really tight.
“I’m really…. glad… you came back Mr. Gus,” whispered Cindy. She dashed out the door immediately right after to fetch Sarah and their guests.
Gretel and the others dropped their jaws wide open. This is the first time they saw their mischievous sibling act like that. As for Gus, he simply felt blessed. He really missed his family and especially his sister whom he is very close to. But Seeing Gretel, Little Sage, Cindy and the rest of them happy like this, makes his transmigration experience all worth it.
Not long after, Cindy and the Others have stepped in. Cindy and Sarah were laughing as they first went into the room. But what stepped in next, was a sobbing mess Rhoanne.
“You! Why is it, that good fathers like you don’t exist anymore?!” Said Rhoanne as she kept wiping her tears nonstop.
“Um, Sarah?” asked Gus as he was confused about what was going on.
“I just told them how we met you. But as soon as I got to the part about little Sage, she went all-out crying,” said Sarah.
It started out as Nico and Rhoanne trying to get more information about Gus, but obviously, it backfired and it ended up being a tear-jerker story for our strong adventurer Rhoanne.
Nico was just shaking his head in embarrassment. Although they haven’t learned any new information about Gus, they definitely saw him in a new light.
Nico grabbed his sobbing partner and sat her down on a seat. Everyone else followed and sat down as they waited for Gus to surprise them.
Gus opened his Spatial Inventory. Immediately, the smell of Vanilla and Caramel has permeated their noses. They couldn’t believe their eyes, as two towering pyramids appeared on the table.
“What is it?”——–
“It smells so sweet!”——–
“What’s that brown stuff?”—–
“Is that honey?”—–
They were having a hard time trying to describe this masterpiece. Nico knows that this level of intricacy is something even Nobles kitchen can’t compare to. From Ms. Sarah’s stories, he heard that Gus was a really good cook. But once again, Gus has exceeded his expectations.
Gus also pulled out something shiny from his Spatial storage. It’s the children’s new personalized Steel Mugs. Within it, is their hot cocoa. Their names were skillfully sculpted on its side. In the modern world, this is called Calligraphy Art. Gus couldn’t stand seeing the kids drink out of the old mugs. “Who cares if I do not possess attack techniques? There is nothing better than skills to make everyday lives better.” thought Gus. After pulling out the hot cocoa for the kids, he also pulled out the Steel Mugs for Rhoanne, Sarah And Nico as gifts. The Mugs itself were sleek, and its design is quite modern. Nico even wondered what blacksmith can accomplish such a feat. There are no signs of the mug being hammered or chiseled. It’s as if the Steel Mug was molded itself from a square, block of steel.
“It’s the first time I see material such as this! It’s stronger and lighter than iron,” said Nico.
“The mug is really nice and all, but what is this sweet stuff? and why is it brown? I thought it might taste like mud, but it tasted like Nectar for the Gods!” said Rhoanne.
“So you have tasted the Nectar of the Gods?” asked Griffin as he drinks from his Mug.
“Urm…. not exactly Griffin, but I’m sure if I did, it would definitely taste like this!” Said Rhoanne as she continued to sip on the chocolate drink.
“What is this Mr. Gus? It really tastes good! It’s bitter but it’s sweet!” Asked Gretel as she couldn’t stop drinking.
“Everyone, This is called Vanilla Hot Chocolate. It is a bittersweet drink made from milk, sugar, vanilla, and chocolate. I’ll tell you guys more in detail some other time.”
“Papa! You’re amazing!” said Little Sage as she holds her mug with both hands. It is adorable seeing her alternate drinking and admiring the mug at the same time.
“Of course your Papa is amazing! Your Papa is a creature that can talk well, cook deliciously and love you guys endlessly! That itself is amazing enough, my cute daughter!” said Gus jokingly. The children giggled at his jokes making the chocolate drink splatter in their faces as they drink. It started from Griffin and Ray, then Cindy and Gretel couldn’t hold it in as well. Little Sage only hugged at his amazing father.
Like a domino effect, the laughter passed on from one person to another. Everyone lost it when Rhoanne laughed, and chocolate milk came running out of her nose.
“Okay, everyone! This sweet dessert is called a Cream puff! The one with Brown topping is made out of chocolate, which is the same thing you guys are drinking right now. Its obviously called chocolate cream puff, while the other one with the Golden Topping, is called Caramel Creampuffs! It is simply made from Sugar.”
Sarah was the first to react as she bit the Caramel- topped cream puff.
“I had no idea there was something sweet inside! What is it? It has a familiar taste of eggs, milk, and sugar!”
“Sigh. The Royal Kitchen would lose face to your skills, Mr. Gus,” said Nico as he enjoys the caramel cream puff as well.
“So this is what the Rich and Fancy always eat? Maybe that’s why their skin is so white!” said Rhoanne as she tried the chocolate-flavored cream puff.
“That’s not it Rhoanne, I have seen the food they serve in the Royal Court since most of their products and seasonings came from me. It’s safe to assume, that nobody in the this Kingdom has eaten this,” said Nico.
Sadly, Rhoanne just ignored everything Nico said and just ate the chocolate and caramel cream puff, one after another.
Ray bit in his Caramel Cream puff, and cream filling oozed out, making a mess.
“So messy, Little Ray! you should eat the cream puffs like this, so it won’t make a mess!” Said Gretel. She bit her cream puff and the filling oozed out and made a mess as well. Ray was just smiling at the embarrassed face her Elder sister made.
Little Sage just made a mess with the cream filling all over her face, that it even made a mess out of her hair and glasses. No matter how much Griffin wipes the cream off her face, it would just be messy again in a matter of seconds.
“Cindy, how is it? Did I deliver my promise properly?” asked Gus as he stroke her apple cut hair.
“Yes! It’s really… good! It’s sweet, but not too sweet. It’s perfect! Thank you Mist…. thank you!”
said Cindy as she quickly ate a whole cream puff. She had a hard time chewing the food properly.
“Take it easy, okay? I don’t want you to choke,” said Gus to the beet-red colored Cindy.
Gretel and Griffin just looked at each other with a confused face. They know something is wrong with their sister Cindy.
“Papa! Can you tell the story now?” asked Little Sage.
“Did you bring the Iron toys I gave you?” Asked Gus.
“Here they are!” Little Sage always kept the wooden box close to her.
As Little Sage carefully opened her wooden box, Nico was the first to admire the craftsmanship of the cast iron toys. They have movable joints, and the details of the toy were just astounding. Nico hasn’t considered making business with toys, because it seems unnecessary and unprofitable. The toys in this world were only either Straw dolls for girls and wooden swords for boys. In the land of Circa, The Level of Entertainment is underdeveloped as people were too busy trying to survive in such a brutal world.
Gus laid down his arms on the table near the toys. Steel Cords were coming out of Gus’ body and each cord attached itself to a toy. Using both his Morph and Impart ability, he used these techniques to turn the dolls into his puppets. Gus also made a Nico doll and more Cast Iron Goblin dolls to tell his story.
Everyone watched the puppets’ life-like movements as if it has a life of its own. Gus did his very best to portray what happened down the dungeon.
Gus thought that this might be how it feels to watch a movie for the very first time. Gus himself narrated the scenes. The kids were gripping at their pillows with excitement and thrill as they saw the trio fight the goblin captains and their generals. Little Sage was always on the edge, as she keeps shouting at her puppet father to fight harder. The children even cried and shouted “Don’t Die Ms. Rhoanne! Please Stand up!” as they witnessed the Goblin Lord striking her down.
“Hey now! I’m still right here, alive and well, yeah?” complained Rhoanne. She smiled after knowing that the kids really cared for her.
They Enjoyed the adventure of the heroic trio, but they enjoyed the looks of Bubblegum Hardsuit Rhoanne and Magna Defender Gus even more! They looked like heroes that came from the legends of old.
After telling the story, The kids were fast asleep in the living room. Gus put Little Sage’s toys back in the box along with her new cast iron toys while Sarah and Rhoanne covered everyone with blankets. Nico cleaned up a bit and finally turned off their candlelight as they all left the living room quietly.
Tomorrow is yet another busy day.
