A Mere Fate Of Mine - Chapter 2
‘This guy is up to no good!’
Lucien’s brain had been churning non stop trying to find the way out. He knew that the man in front of him couldn’t be trusted.
From the man’s action, he could see that the man was vicious and cautious.
First, he showed no hesitation pointing a dagger at me, a child. From this, I could see that he would kill me straight away if he has to. There was nothing like morality in front of him, no, in here, Abyss.
Secondly, before he saw my status he did not let his guard down at all. Only after he was sure that I can’t pose a threat to him did he relaxed. To think he was so confident that he didn’t shackle me.
Well, well, I can make use of his overconfidence so it’s a good thing for me.
Thirdly, look at his face. No matter how you look, he is definitely a C grade villian.
Lucien was sure that Gibbs wouldn’t take him to some good place. He might even sell him to be slave. The boy already started to think of this world based on some dark fantasy movies and novels.
Although Lucien’s thought process is not fitting his age, essentially he was still a 14 years old kid. If it is possible, he doesn’t want to fight or even kill anyone. He was too nervous for that. Still, as he walk, he started to resolve himself to kill the man in front of him for his own poor life.
Not coming up with an idea, Lucien then looked at his skill in the menu which had been pinging non stop. There was only one skill there in the list. Acting? Oh, I supposed I was acting like an innocent child a while ago. Next to the skill is ‘level 7’. He read the description
Acting Lv.7 : Increase the skill level to make your acting more realistic by a small portion. You can also control your expression more easily as the skill grows.
Note: The more powerful the target than you, the faster the skill grows.
Although the skill does not seem too bad, Lucien thought it was useless to him. His acting was already top notch. Even his father who taught him acting couldn’t figure out the truth whenever he lied anymore.
‘I guess it’s better than nothing.’
Back to the menu, there were ‘Status’, ‘Skill’, ‘Path’, ‘Friend’ and ‘Forum’. The ‘Friend’ section appeared to be something like a friend list which was now blank. The ‘Forum’ was grey out so he chose ‘Path’. System message then pop up.
[The paths are endless , one can not walks on all the paths. Everyone have their owns, so do you. Human, time to choose yours.]
[Congratulations! Despite the fact that your planet has billions of life, you were still the one summoned in the end. ‘Luck Path’ is now available!]
[Congratulations! The beginner gift: 1 random path has been given to you. ‘Wind Magic Path’ is now available!]
On the screen were Newbie Path 0/5, Abyss Traveler Path 0/50, Luck Path 0/60 and Wind Magic Path 0/30. On the top left of the screen said Available PP : 6. Lucien thought for a bit and put 5 points in to Newbie Path.
[Congratulations! you have earned 1 stat point.]
[Congratulations! you have earned 1 stat point.]
[Congratulations! you have earn 2 point.]
[Congratulations! you have completed Newbie Path! +1 all attributes, +1 stat point per level, +2 health per level, +2 mana per level and +2 stamina per level. You have got 2 skills as a reward, Heavy Blow Lv 1 and Magic Arrow Lv 1.]
Heavy Blow: Concentrate your force to deal a powerful attack. Cost: 5 stamina

‘Woah! so path doesn’t only net me attributes but skills as well.’ Lucien felt happy because he finally got combat skills. Moreover
‘Magic! It really is a magic spell! Now I can use magic!’ He decided to save his leftover 1PP for the time being as he still didn’t know how to get those points.
These skills might become handy soon. He also got 6 free stat points from the path which he saved it for the time being. He didn’t want to rush and put in those points. He would use them depending on the situation.
It had not been long since the duo started walking. They hadn’t say anything. Lucien wanted to get more information about this world, but with his timid personalities he showed earlier, he couldn’t start up the conversation. More importantly, he needed to find a way out of this guy. He couldn’t follow to the town.
Lucien gazed at the man in front of him, to be exact, the dagger hanging on his waist. I have to do something to that dagger.
Feeling the gaze, Gibbs turned back to look at the boy behind him, only to see a pitiful and curious gaze from those big watery eyes. This boy has such a nice pair of eyes, I’m jealous
“This dagger? You know, this place is Abyss, a place full of scary monster. There are monsters everywhere, you have to learn to protect yourself, kid. Also”
‘To think he was so cautious back then’ Lucien thought. ‘Now he has turned into a complete chatterbox which means he has dropped his guard toward me a lot. Still, it’s not enough. Let’s some more information. 100% pure kid mode activated!’
“…This Panam Forest is full of 2nd class monster, but don’t worry kid, those idiots are nothing to me, I will protect you!” Gibbs laugh heartily It feels good boasting!
“I know if bad monster comes, big bro Gibbs will kill them all. Big bro is a good guy after all.” Lucien blinked innocently.
“H-Hey kid,” Gibbs flustered. “How do you know I am a good guy?”
“I know big bro is a good guy. He even helped me when I got summoned to this scary world. Big bro is even willing to take me to a safe place. If haven’t met big bro, I wouldn’t know what to do. I-I might get e-eaten by a bad monster! Big bro, you are-”
“S-Stop! kid, enough! you won’t get anything flattering me!” Gibbs’ face was full of smile contrary to his words. To think I’m feeling happy being flattered by a kid!
“W-What? Big bro, I’m not lying. I’m just saying the truth. You know, my mom say a hero helps other people selflessly. Just like big bro helping me. Big bro didn’t ask me for anything!” Lucien’s voice was full of passion with a pure smile hung on his face.
“My mom also told me that hero is very handsome and very cool. Big bro is also very ‘handsome’ and very ‘cool’! I can’t be wrong big bro. Big bro is my hero now! I want to be like big bro!” His voice was loud and clear like a christmas bell.
Unconsciously, they both had already stopped walking. Lucien’s watery eyes stared at Gibbs’, full of passion. Gibbs’ face was now red like a tomato.
‘Yuck! I feel like puking uttering those words! Dang! My Acting skill has actually increased by a whole 8 levels!’
“Y-y-you have a good eye, k-kid!” Gibbs shuddered. He was so embarrassed right now. Such an innocent kid! Look at his cute face! No way he’s flattering me. He was saying the truth! Dammit! Now I feel bad conning this kid! I will at least teach him some stuff on the way then!
“A-Ahem, kid, you really think I am c-cool, right?”
It’s actually working! The line really lives up to its reputation of one of the ’10 most classic lines of a kid in the story of all times’! A cold glint flashed across Lucien’s eyes.
Good Heaven!
“Yeah! my eyes are being blinded by big bro’s charisma!”
