A Non-combat Magic Artifact Researcher ー Actually Was an Extroadinary S-rank Mage~ Though He Worked Overtime Without Compensation and Contributed Greatly, He Was Labeled as Incompetent and Was Fired - CH 56
Ch. 56 The Disciples of the Great Sage
Lotte spoke up as she heard me mumbling.
Lotte: “Is it not because the original Artifact was designed by yourself, Master?” Werner: “No, the modified parts are following my Master’s principles.”
Lotte: “……..I don’t quite follow.” Though Lotte was not picking up on what I was saying, since I developed this Artifact, it was clear to me.
Werner: “I think it will be clear to you soon enough.”
Lotte: “Yes, I’ll keep working hard.” Hati: “But why are the modifications following my Lord’s Master’s principles and theories? Are there other disciples other than yourself?”
Werner: “My Master has lived for a long time, so yes, there are other disciples. Or rather, were.” Hati: “Why past tense?” Werner: “My Master has lived for over 1,000 years. I heard that all his former disciples have passed away.” The only living disciple should just be me.
But I can’t deny the fact that my Master was just telling me things without putting too much thought into it.
Hati: “Then why is my Lord’s Master’s principles and theories being used……..?”
But as soon as she said it, Hati’s eyes widened.
Hati: “Does it mean that my Lord’s Master has turned against us?! That has to be it! My Lord’s Master and the former Head of Research were colleagues! And my Lord’s Master was the original founder of the Mages Academy and first Academy President! It would be no surprise if he had ties to the previous Academy President!”
As the pieces fell together in her head, Hati grew even more excited.
Werner: “Hati, calm down.” Hati: “ThーThis is terrible. Everything….all of it was my Lord’s Master pulling the strings. This is absolutely terrible!”
Werner: “Still, calm down.” Hati: “How can Hati stay calm in a situation like this?! OH NO NO NO NO NO!!”
Lotte: “PーP-p-p, please calm down, Miss Hati!”
Seeing Hati panic, Lotte also began to panic and walk this way and that.
Werner: “Look, calm down.”
I embraced Hati who was circling in the air.
Hati: “Hm? My Lord? If my Lord will fight against his Master, Hati will come too! Hati is pretty strong!”
Werner: “Yes, if that time comes, I will be relying on you. But I don’t believe it’s my Master.”
Hati: “What? But my Lord, you are the only living disciple, are you not? There’s only my Lord and my Lord’s Master.”
Werner: “There’s also disciples of disciples or disciples of disciples of disciples too.” Hati: “………..oh, that’s trueーー”
Hati seemed to have calmed down.
She’s not particularly slow. In fact, she’s quite intelligent.
But she jumps too quickly to conclusions. But she’s still just a kid so that can’t be helped.
Werner: “It’s possible that the disciple inherited the principles and theories from his master.”
If it’s a disciple of a disciple, or a disciple of a disciple of a disciple, then my Master’s teachings would still have been passed down pretty accurately.
Hati: “That’s a relief.” Lotte: “But Master, if it is Professor Kay’s grand-disciple or great-grand disciple, does that mean that disciple is currently residing in the Galatea Empire?” Werner: “There is that possibility.” If it’s my Master’s grand-disciple, it wouldn’t surprise me if they were a Magecraft Craftsmen working in a national institution.
Lotte: “That is worrisome.” As a Princess of the Lamette Kingdom, who is being targeted by the Galatea Empire, that would be troublesome news.
Werner: “Yes, that would be troubling. But my Master has also been working behind the scenes since he retired from the Mages Academy.”
I really did not know what my Master was doing up until now.
But he may have been thinking of a plan against his grand-disciple’s Artifacts.
Lotte: “What is Professor Kay doing right now?” Werner: “That, I don’t even know. But I don’t believe he would be your enemy, Lotte.”
Lotte: “Yes, I trust Professor Kay.”
Werner: “He did push for me to accept you as a disciple too. And besides, my Master has ties with the original king and founder of the Lamette Kingdom, right?”
Lotte: “Yes, the Queen of the Founding King was Professor Kay’s younger sister, it seems.”
Werner: “Oh, so you know about that?” Lotte: “It’s not something that is known publicly, but all of the members of the Lamette Kingdom’s Royalty are aware of this.”
I’m sure there are some in the Royal Family who are more talkative than others.
If they have traditionally passed down this information for all Royalty, then I can easily expect all of the upper Nobility of the Lamette Kingdom to be aware of this fact as well.
Lotte: “Professor Kay has been assisting all of the Kingdom’s Kings as an advisor and has deep ties to our country.”
Werner: “Is that so……” Then why didn’t my Master also teach the Kingdom to help progress their Magecraft field?
Even though my Master has been advising the Kingdom for generations, how had the Lamette Kingdom fallen behind in Magecraft technology?
Was he weary of interfering with their country too much? When my Master resided in the Imperial Kingdom of Rheinfelden, he kept his distance with the Royal Palace.
And it makes me wonder why he didn’t build the Mages Academy in the Lamette Kingdom.
It’s possible that the Lamette Kingdom simply didn’t have the funds to support such an institution.
So that’s why he may have built it in the Imperial Kingdom of Rheinfelden, who was an ally of the Lamette Kingdom.
But all of this is just my speculation.
Werner: “There’s no use trying to figure out my Master, so let’s continue our investigation with the Artifacts.” Lotte: “Yes!” Hati: “Understood!”
Even Hati, who didn’t have anything particular to do, answered back cheerfully.
But just by being near, Hati reassured and comforted us. She did not need to help us directly.
We furthered our investigation, and I turned my suspicion into confirmation that the technology being used was based upon my Master’s work.
And it was at a high level too.
Werner: “Okay, I think we got all of the preliminary investigation done, so let’s restore this Artifact to its original purpose.”
Lotte: “Yes, I will help as well!”
Lotte and I worked together for about an hour.
We took out the unnecessary parts, and added the missing parts.
Before long, we had the original Magecraft Artifact completed.
