- A Powerfull Assassin On Parallel World Become Demon Lord?
- Volume 2 Chapter 23 Babel
Let’s rewind time a bit.
Before I arrived in Babel, I found a ship that will go to Babel. I immediately concealed my presence, covering Arcadia and descending at a deserted place in the ship.
“Ryuga, Babel is right in front of us, why you sneak in this ship?”
“I just want to get more information about Babel.”
“You can do it when you arrived right?”
“It’s better to have the information before going there. You are pretty useless when I ask you about human culture in this world.”
“…this is the first time for the great me to be called useless…Grrr…”, she gritted her teeth and showing her angry face.
Arcadia was ever met with humans, but she didn’t have an interest in them. She never goes to Human country and only wandering in the dungeon and stay in the cave. She didn’t know common sense in this world and pretty much clueless like me.
“That’s the fact.”
Find the information is the second priority because right now I need someone who understands this world and can teach us everything about common sense. After we descending, we blend ourselves with the people here. Arcadia could use magic to create her clothing, meanwhile, I manipulating my Nanoparticles and imitate someone who using full body armor. I only could imitate metal-like, so proper clothes are impossible.
There’s a boy who shouting eagerly behind us. Under a cloudy sky of the plucked cotton strand, the boy narrowed his eyes through the salty sea breeze.
“Just a little more, I will meet with my sister!!”
He stood on the deck of the ship cutting its way through the pastel blue water, he continues gazing forward as if he simply couldn’t wait for what was to come.
Appearance-wise, ‘boy’ was the perfect word to describe him. Neither an adolescent, not a man. He has small-built and his facial feature was considerably young.
I approaching him with a friendly manner and ask him in polite ways.
“Excuse me, you look very excited about Babel, is that city very good?”
“Ah..”
He blinked his eyes and looking down with red cheeks. He is very embarrassed huh…
It’s very childish
“I am sorry, honestly this is my first time to go to Babel, so I looking forward to enjoying my time in there.”
I learned how to make an excuse like that to fish information without being suspected when I become the successor of the Kiyotaka Family.
I wonder what was the situation of my Family… especially her…
Last time, when I leaving her, she very depressed. It’s because the ‘brother’ before me was simply leaving her. Whether because they aren’t strong enough to continue strict lectures and take responsibility for being an assassin or they were died during the mission.
“You never come to Babel?” , He answers me with a question.
“Yeah, I just know that Babel is a place for Hero to fight to prove their strength. Is that correct?”
“Yes, so you want to challenge Hero with that flashy armor?” , He looks at my imitation armor with interest.
“Haha, maybe if there was Hero who weaker than me, I will challenge him.”
“I see…”, He nodded with satisfaction
“So would you kind enough to tell me about Babel since we will go there together right?”
“Okay, Babel is…..”
According to him, Babel is a place created to find excitement in watching Hero fight. Here the Hero who desired fame and power would contest their ability through a duel. Grappling Marches of raw power, the armed battle of technique, the tactical battle of the war, and psychological battle of super ending an opponent’s though or action…No mean were off the table when it came to victory.
Everyone has the right to challenge not just the Hero but normal people too, even civilians could do that, but they need to register first. This registration is free if you don’t need anything like insurance when you are injured. The challenger is called duelist. Duelist has several ranks and the highest rank Will get [Legendary Item] like weapon, armor, Talisman even spirits as a blessing from Goddess.
To put in simple words, this city is allowed its people to fight with certain rules. The hero is just a special bonus and the prizes are bait for those Heroes.
But before I could draw much information from him, suddenly the captain of this ship make a loud announcement
“-The ship will soon arrive at Babel, spectator and sightseers please exit to the left of the boat, and who wishes to become duelist please disembark from the right, I repeat-”
“I am sorry, but I need to go to the left section because I just want to meet my sister. You could follow that path to join as a duelist.”, He pointed to a certain direction and bow his head, then he left us.
“We still lack information huh…”
“So what will you do know?”
“Let’s check the situation first.”
I presented my hand to her but she only staring at me.
“We need to conceal ourselves. I don’t know if it will become profitable for us, so I don’t want to waste my time there.”
“Got it.”
She accepted my hand, and Nanoparticles enveloped us and erase our presence. Even though this isn’t the first time that I hold her hand, but her hand is soft like a baby. I thought she is a dragon, so at least her hand will become quite hard because of her scales, but I never could voice my opinion because I am afraid she will snap of me.
She minds about her fashion when she selecting her outfit, so there’s a chance for her to snap when I say her hands are rough. I guess she is a girl too before being a dragon…
We walked along the deck as instructed and observed the form of those proceeding un the same direction.
They all human but with various characteristics like colorful hair and the only same thing on common is they hold their weapons like Sword, spear, Shield, Rapier, Bow, Knuckle, Dagger, Greatsword, Trident, Magic Staff and many other weapons.
Another announcement signaled the boat’s stop, and the bridge to the pier was lowered. Those on standby stepped down into land one after the other. We simply jump from the boat and waiting for them to begin the next step.
Among the crowd, there is a tiny man who stood alone restlessly. He looks confused and he walked toward one guy who looks bigger than him.
This big guy is higher than mine with protruding, sturdy muscle and thick log-like limbs told the tale of his fortitude.
“What was your problem, shrimp?”
An irritated reply comes from the big guy as if he didn’t want to be disturbed by small fry.
“Your armband!!! You are duelist, right? Could you show me the direction to register as a duelist?”
Ohhh that armband is proof of being duelist. His armband is brown-colored with four gold stars.
“Heh, you have good eyes. You just got here today?”
“Yes, but I dropped my map, but I have to register myself as a duelist. Could you tell me where that is?”
“I could lend you a hand, so give me money as the guide’s fee.”
“You need money?!”
“Of course, nothing free in this world.”
“B-but I don’t have much money…”
“Then give me all you got…If you don’t pay-then duel me.”
The big guy showing a nasty smile and turn his sharp eyes to that poor man.
“In this city, you settle the matter with money or have the other guy lose and obey you. That’s the rule.”
I see, so dispute, quarrel, and troubles…every trouble can be resolved with a duel. That was common sense in this city…
“You got it? If you don’t have money and can’t fight, you won’t get anywhere here. Want a guide? Then find a good guy and get lost.”
Seeing the tiny man frozen in place, the big guy disinterestedly exhaled before turned to leave-
“But I want to register no matter what happens!!”
“…..Huh?”, the big guy’s feet stopped at those replies.
“I see, so you want to be beaten to the pulp huh. Listen here shrimp, your body won’t last long in the arena, so this my advice, get lost from this city and go back to your hometown and find a decent job.”
“You would never know, but I am quite confident with my body.”
“…..Fine, let me, Hanzo, test your strength!!”
Both of them make a stance for a fight and the onlooker is gathering to watch their match.
“Are you don’t want to help him, Ryuga?” , Arcadia asks me with curiosity.
“Why I need to help him? That was his decision and if I helped him now when he experienced the real fight, he will be trampled by his opponent. At least, he needs to know his limit before going to this city. He said he quite confident right, maybe he has a trick on his sleeve to win.”
“If he didn’t say he confident with his body, would you help him?”
“My answer is still the same, I think it’s better to know when you need to give up.”
“I thought you are on side with justice Ryuga, like always helping the weak because of your compassion.”
“I am not someone like you imagined…”
I always question myself after killing a bad guy.
Is this the right thing to do?
Isn’t better to send them to prison and left them to atone their sin?
Why did I need to kill them and make their family cried and sad?
“I see…”
Just as Hanzo was finally going to shake him off and cut all ties, an endlessly thoughtless voice resounded.
“Ahhh, stop that right now.”
Long and silky hair of silver thread swaying in the sea breeze, round turquoise eyes brimming with energy.
“Tch…Of all people, it just had to be Scarlet Flame…”
“Hanzo, please follow the rule. That man isn’t duelist yet, so you can’t challenge him into a duel.”
“Tsk…You always get in my way…I just want to crush his naivety…”
And with that parting line, he went on his way, his large body swaying. After making doubly sure he was gone, the girls come to a tiny man.
“Are you okay?”
“Oh, no…I am perfectly fine.”
“It wouldn’t be fun if you got injured or traumatized after come here. I will escort you to register now.”
She escorts him and we stealthily following them. By the way, this girl has silver-colored armband with one star, so she is stronger than Hanzo.
We arrived at a fancy three-story building and they entered without hesitation. A gorgeous, bright and colorful circular hall. Seamless smooth wall and carefully polished marble floor along with the something like lamps placed around Made the hall almost blinding in its uniform light.
The girl was marching forward, barreling full-throttle toward the center register.
“Shina, I brought a man who wants to register!”
A crimson-haired woman answers her and showing a business smile to them.
“Welcome to Babel, my name is Shina. Am I right to assume that man is looking to register?”
“My name is Claude. I want to become a duelist.”
“Alright, I need to go to right now, see you guys!!”
The girl who escorts us leaves while waving her hands.
“Geez, that girl…Do you need an explaination on what it means to be duelist?”
“I already know that, so please skip that.”
Oi, oi don’t skip those important parts!!!
We are here to gather all the information, so please act like you don’t know anything!!!
At this rate, we need to go there and ask ourselves directly since I don’t have much time left to playing around.
“My, my, you are helping me with that. I like a customer like you.”
“T-Thank you.”
“So this is your armband, and you are started with a white armband with a single star. If you win a match, the star will be increased and once it has five stars, your rank will be promoted.”
“Okay, I got it.”
Claude equipping the armband on his right arm.
“Do you want insurance if you are injured or accidentally die in the arena?”
Hmm, that was a heavy topic, I mean death?
If you die, your family will get the insurance or the reward of the battle?
“Yes, I don’t want to die at a young age after all.”
“The fee is 50 gold and this is just once payment, so you will get this benefit as long as you stay in Babel. We don’t prohibit you to leave Babel when you come back to Babel, this benefit still active.”
“Here the payment.”
Claude takes out a pouch filled with 50 gold coins and place it on the counter.
“Enjoy your day in Babel, Claude-san.”
“Thank you.”
Claude finished his registration and left the place. It’s our turn huh…
