A Professional Avenger - Chapter 37
The next time Lin Yuetian opened his eyes again, the scenery around him changed into a whole brand new world.
It looked as though there was another dimension unfolding in his eyes. It felt like there were various distorted lines, forming complex curves and angles that should not exist in the air. With every step he took, he felt the profound changes in the whole world in his every sense.
“It’s like looking at the world from the perspective of ants[1]. Well, it’s hard to describe it in words.” Lin Yuetian decided to explain his current feelings to his System.
The system gave him no reply.
His spirit had been greatly stimulated. The impact was even more serious compared to the first time he saw Lin Yuetian in action[2].
He had been frightened out of his wits, his voice was dreary as he kept mumbling,
[“Unbelievable, unbelievable…”]
“Don’t worry, I think I have more than enough power now.” Lin Yuetian tried to send him the good news to comfort him.
[“Too much, it’s too much…”] The System murmured painfully.
[“You…you were, you were….ugghhh, blergghhhhhhh-“]

Lin Tongzhao slumped on a chair, deprived of energy. He’s listlessly staring at the ceiling. His hands were still stained with blood, and the knife he used earlier lay motionlessly at his feet.
Lin Yuetian’s body, or it was now a corpse, was already in an unrecognizable state. On the floor he lay previously, only a porcelain jar as tall as an adult’s thigh remained.
“It’s already laborious enough to clean you up and put your whole body inside.” Lin Tongzhao smiled wryly.
“I didn’t refine you into a ghostly weapon. My body felt like it was getting worse with every minute. My luck and fortune also seemed to be exhausted. If I were to command you to fight the Jade Ghost, perhaps the result might be twice the result with half the effort.”
“However, despite carrying a lot of evil spirits in your soul, you are not tainted by resentment at all. Your consciousness was intact without being affected by resentment even if you’ve become a ghost. You are fully sentient. So, this way, I think I’ll just let you be…simply let you be a free ghost…”
“—Is it the right decision…? I don’t know…but still, a free sentient ghost, huh…”
“Then, I will let you see yourself that it is really the right decision.” Lin Yuetian calmly replied.
His currently translucent figure was oozing blood all over.
[“It’s too bizarre…”] The System felt his heart was empty. There was nothing left to feel or think about.
Lin Yuetian had to once again give his traumatized colleague a few more comforting words softly before he stopped talking nonsense, and just waited until it was dark.
As the night fell, he flew straight through the wall and directly went to find the Jade Ghost.
***
Lin Yuetian didn’t just bluff when he said he had more than enough power. He couldn’t explain how and why, but he could feel it in himself that he seemed to be extremely powerful.
Things that those ferocious ghosts in horror movies often do, like, teleporting at will, flashing behind someone’s back, suddenly appearing under one’s bed, or outside the door, etc—he could also do it with ease right now.
In other words, it’s a piece of cake for him to find the Jade Ghost.
Lin Yuetian simply teleported outside of The Original Body’s rented apartment in a burst of blood mist.
Immediately after his arrival, another burst of black smoke slowly poured out of the residential building. The Jade Ghost’s beautiful face soon appeared in front of him. His current expression was not as good as his looks, regrettably.
He looked at Lin Yuetian with a gloomy expression on his face. “I see. So you have been refined into a ghost…Was it to kill me? Or for something else? Why do you want to do this?”
He sounded as if he couldn’t figure out both Lin Yuetian’s condition or the current situation.
For him, returning as a living human had become his obsession. He was able to endure those hundreds of years just for a chance. He did not hesitate to deceive innocents, just like how he cheated the Original Body’s feelings. Everything was to gain a vessel, in order to live once again as a human. It was simply inconceivable for him, to see someone actually decide to kill themselves and become a ghost, from a perfectly living human.
“I’m doing this to understand your feelings.” —Was what Lin Yuetian answered him with.
He continued to speak softly, “You have hurt me, you should know that. We’re supposed to be lovers, aren’t we? You said that you love me, and I love you wholeheartedly in return. Since we were lovers, we should understand each other…Why must you kill me to survive? I don’t understand. ..”
“——-That’s why I decided to die,”
“—I want to become a ghost like you,”
“—to understand you,”
“—to feel you more.”
“—How is it? Are you touched? Can you feel it? Can you feel my deep love for you? Will you love me as much as I love you?”
The Jade Ghost, “…”
“…Have you gone insane?”
***
If there was something Lin Yuetian felt about himself being changed after becoming a ghost, then aside from power, it was also his temper.
Lin Yuetian clearly noticed that his temper seemed to become worse. In the first place, he knew that this task was not a walk in the park. He knew that he couldn’t complete his missions with just a few words. However, right now he couldn’t stop the sudden dissatisfaction and irritability from rising within his heart.
He stopped speaking any more nonsense, and decided to approach the Jade Ghost instead.
Still with a miserable and heartbroken expression of someone who had been hurt by love, to prevent the Jade Ghost from being wary, he inched closer to the Jade Ghost. As expected, he didn’t take a step back nor avoid Lin Yuetian’s approach.
“Do you know what is it that I’m thinking right now…?”
“….” The Jade Ghost stared at the familiar yet somehow became an unfamiliar face in front of him.
For some reason, his mind recalled the memory of when he first appeared in front of this young man.
At that time, Lin Yuetian was startled, looking like a frightened little animal. Inwardly, he was laughing at the fact that the descendant of the Lin Family had become that cowardly.
The scene of the past, and the scene in front of him tonight were like a sharp contrast. The young man floating in front of him right now had blood constantly oozing from his ghostly figure.
How painful it was to be refined as a ghost—he knew it firsthand.
‘Did he not feel scared at all? Did he feel no hesitation at all?’
‘Is it true that he did this…all for me?’
‘Obviously I, I have treated him so ruthlessly. So why, why would he…’
—The Jade Ghost couldn’t help but wonder.
After he was turned into a ghost, he had nothing in his mind aside from acquiring a new body and returning to the living, it had always been his sole focus. But now there seemed to be another strange feeling slowly creeping into his heart. It was something he felt completely unfamiliar with.
Somehow, he suddenly missed the sight of the previous Lin Yuetian, the sight of him saying ‘I Love You’ from time to time, with a reddened face——a rudy face belonging to the living person.
“I don’t know.” The Jade Ghost finally responded. “Your feelings…What are you thinking about, I don’t know…I can’t understand it…”
“Do you know, right now I’m thinking—,” Lin Yuetian took another step closer, almost touching the other’s ears as he whispered.
***
That night, two Ferocious Ghosts were floating above the city, above the sea of lights below.
Drowned within the noise and the neon lights, the love, hatred, and resentment, among countless living beings, had always been surging within this very vibrant city.
Lin Yuetian’s ghostly figure was still wearing his shirt before death, which was now continuously dripping with blood. His appearance was undeniably horrific. In contrast, the Jade Ghost was dressed in pristine white ancient robes.
However, Lin Yuetian’s countenance was the opposite of his ghastly figure. He looked incredibly gentle when he leaned closer to the Jade Ghost’s ear and said,
“….What I think right now is that——it will be too lamentable if I don’t take advantage of an opening.”
The Jade Ghost was stunned and was unable to react for a while. “…What?”
It was the last word he uttered.
Lin Yuetian rested his palm on his chest, looking like nothing but merely an intimate gesture between lovers. However, from his palm a surge of resentful energy suddenly being condensed, and his hand went straight penetrating through the Jade Ghost’s left chest to his back!
Even as his ghostly figure began dissipating into thin air, the Jade Ghost still couldn’t believe what had just happened. When he looked at the perpetrator, he could still feel that cold palm clenching on his chest, with no nostalgia, without any shred of hesitation.
“…As expected.” The Jade Ghost heard Lin Yuetian suddenly speak as he looked into his own palm.
“—There is no sincerity ‘inside‘ your heart at all.” The young man’s voice was calm, yet also sounded extremely cold at the same time.
***
[“1st Mission, Find out whether the Jade Ghost is sincere to him. Completed.”] The System announced.
Compared to when he had to witness Lin Yuetian ‘being killed‘, this kind of homicide, was something he was rather used to instead. He would no longer fret or panic. He felt that he had grown a lot compared to his old self.
***
The Jade Ghost was perplexed.
‘Doesn’t he love me?’
‘…Doesn’t he love me deeply?’
Various scenes of the past flashed in his eyes like a kaleidoscope. There were a lot of things he wanted to say, there were a lot of questions he wanted to ask. But in the end, neither could he utter any more words, nor could he have the time to figure out anything——because Lin Yuetian didn’t give him this chance.
—The Jade Ghost had been torn apart with a flick of resentful energy from Lin Yuetian’s hand.
[“2nd Mission, Seal back the Jade Ghost. Completed…”] The System corrected his words, [“—Or it should be said, completed, thoroughly.”]
***
The first two missions regarding the Jade Ghost had been completed with no problem.
Now, onto the 3rd mission…Lin Yuetian didn’t shy away, and directly took advantage of his immense power to catch all of the lingering ghosts within the city!
—-and ordered those small fries to read some WuXia Novels[3] as his bedtime stories, every single day.
After initiating such ‘gathering‘—of ghosts obediently reciting WuXia novels together—for a while, the System finally announced the completion of all his missions.
[“3rd Mission, No longer being alone. Completed!”]
***
Usually, after completing his task Lin Yuetian would spend some time in the mission world, but right now, for the first time, he chose to directly leave after completing his missions.
He did it in consideration of his System’s condition. The System had clearly become unstable this time around. As a good colleague, he’s obviously more concerned about the System’s mental health rather than his own playing time.
[“I had to watch your body, blerghhhhhhh, your body being, blereghhhhhh, with my own eyes…”]
The System felt he had almost stopped functioning, recalling the scene at that time he couldn’t help but wanted to vomit. [“…You, you were, ughhh…”][4]
“As a System, don’t you have some kind of function to block your sense, a self-circumvent means?”
Lin Yuetian seemed to recall that in the System Administration novels he read in his past time, there often appeared such a function. He was really worried about the work safety of his own System.
[“Function, your mom! That kind of function is set to avoid some reproduction-related images[5]! It is a passive trigger. I couldn’t switch them on even if I wanted to!”]
The System initially didn’t realize about it, but now that he heard Lin Yuetian mentioning it, thinking about it again, it seemed like he had some function but was utterly useless!
The feeling was worse than not having it at all.
Lin Yuetian tried to do some brainstorming, and suddenly a stroke of genius idea flashed in his mind:
“I see! Why don’t I make another preparation before I plan to kill the target? If I kill the target while we are in the reproduction scene, then you can’t see anything, right?”
[“???!!!”]
The System was stupefied for a moment and quickly became enraged after.
[“NO WAY! In this case, I’ll be completely tormented instead! Just go and scared me out of my wits however you want, just don’t go too far! Please don’t insult such a ‘holy affair’ with your bloody antic, okay!?”]
“Oh. I’ll listen to you.” Lin Yuetian assented.
[“You! Ahhh…this is why I’ve been telling you, isn’t it about time you go make some appointment with a psychologist? Your logic is really abnormal.”] The System began to nag again.
This time though, he truly meant it. He was really concerned over Lin Yuetian’s mental condition. He’s afraid that the guy would decide to seek death again just to complete the task.
“How many times must I assure you? I’m not sick.”
Lin Yuetian also began to repeat his self-promotion once again:
“Haven’t I always been gentle? I’m also perfectly reasonable. I can get along easily with others. I have no anti-social tendencies. Didn’t you know how much I love the world, being alive, and how aside from my job I’ve always been living a peaceful life after I gain my financial freedom?”
“—Besides, I’ve also been nothing but conscientious in my job. Hard-working, optimistic, positive thinking, smart and courageous. Countless doctors certify that I don’t have any mental sickness at all.”
[“………”] The System didn’t have any words to refute.
[“Alright, fine, whatever you say, it is. Oh, speaking of which, I actually have a job in mind I’d like to recommend for you. It’s really suitable for you who’s extremely dedicated to your job. Before entering the post, our Company will also offer psychological diagnosis and treatment services. How about it? Are you interested?”]
“Oh? What is it?” Lin Yuetian’s interest was indeed piqued.
[“Let’s talk about it later. Wait until the tenth world of our Missions is completed”]
