- Chapter 695: (2): Saving Shi Chuankong
Han Li swept his gaze over the swamp, upon which he discovered that the baleful qi within it was several times more abundant than it was in the air, and this baleful qi was invading Shi Chuankong’s body in a frenzy while the swamp was dragging him under.
Thankfully, there was a purple jade spirit pendant hanging from his waist, and even without any immortal spiritual power support, it was still automatically protecting its wearer. Otherwise, Shi Chuankong’s physical body would’ve most likely already been completely destroyed by baleful qi.
However, the purple jade pendant was ultimately nothing more than an inanimate object, and there was no way that it could protect him for long without any magic power support. At this point, the spiritual light emanating from its surface had already become extremely thin, and it didn’t look as if it would be able to keep Shi Chuankong sheltered for much longer.
Once the jade pendant ran out of spiritual power, Shi Chuankong would sink into the swamp and meet his demise.
When it came to Shi Chuankong, Han Li didn’t have much of a positive impression of him. In fact, he had actively tried to distance himself from Shi Chuankong up to this point, firstly as he didn’t want Shi Chuankong to discover his true identity, and secondly because he felt like Shi Chuankong was harboring too many secrets.
Having said that, he felt no animosity toward Shi Chuankong.
Hence, after a brief hesitation, he decided to sweep a sleeve through the air, releasing a burst of azure light that enveloped Shi Chuankong’s body before attempting to drag him out of the swamp.
However, as soon as he did this, he immediately detected a burst of powerful force opposing him as it attempted to drag Shi Chuankong’s body deeper into the swamp.
Han Li was rather taken aback by this, and he hurriedly peered into the swamp beneath Shi Chuankong with his Infernal Devilish Eyes.
Earlier, his spiritual sense had only told him that there were some faint spiritual power fluctuations and a high density of baleful qi here, but he hadn’t noticed any demon beasts lurking in the swamp.
As soon as he peered into the swamp with his Infernal Devilish Eyes, an alarmed look instantly appeared on Han Li’s face, and he shot up into the sky like lightning.
He had only just risen up into the air when the earth down below began to tremble violently, and a series of massive bubbles emerged over the brown swamp before popping in rapid succession.
Immediately thereafter, Han Li saw the ground below split up into close to a hundred areas, each of which was over a hundred feet in size. They were like the petals of a black lotus flower, and they were rising up and converging toward the center in layers.
If Han Li hadn’t detected that something was amiss in advance, he would’ve most likely already been swallowed up by the earth by now.
However, even though he had managed to evade whatever creature was lurking beneath the swamp, Shi Chuankong was on the verge of being completely inundated by the swamp.
What the hell is that?!
Han Li’s brows were tightly furrowed as he summoned an Azure Bamboo Cloudswarm Sword, then slashed it through the air to release a streak of incredibly sharp azure sword qi.
The streak of sword qi had arcs of golden lightning revolving around it as it hurtled toward the strange swamp down below, and following an explosion of golden light, a burst of rumbling rang out deep within the swamp.
Immediately thereafter, the swamp also exploded, and Han Li channeled his Reversal True Axis ability, weaving from side to side to evade the fragments of the swamp as he descended upon Shi Chuankong, then grabbed him by the collar before rushing back in retreat.
After rising over a thousand feet up into the air, Han Li suddenly felt a sharp pain in his arm. He looked down to discover that there were around a dozen thin black tentacles on Shi Chuankong’s back, and hundreds of black threads that were as thin as strands of hair had split off from these tentacles, many of which had already crawled their way onto his arm.
Accompanying this painful sensation was a burst of extremely aggressive and invasive baleful qi, which was flooding into his body in a frenzy through the tiny gashes that had been inflicted onto his arm.
Han Li’s brows furrowed tightly upon seeing this, and the Flame of Essence appeared on his shoulder in its humanoid form at his behest, then slid down along his arm before descending onto these thin black threads.
As soon as it came into contact with the black threads, it immediately opened its mouth to release a burst of scorching silver flames, which flowed along the black threads all the way until they reached the black tentacles on Shi Chuankong’s back.
As the tentacles were set alight, they released an acrid odor, and they immediately separated themselves from Shi Chuankong’s body before plunging down toward the swamp below.
“Burn it all,” Han Li yelled, and the Flame of Essence instantly sprang up into the air, then spread its arms before transforming into a silver fire raven that swooped down from above.
The silver fire raven slammed violently into the ground, and silver flames instantly spread in all directions, swallowing up the entire surrounding area within a radius of several thousand feet.
Han Li remained high up in the sky as he watched the ground below tremble violently. At this point, it was already beginning to collapse bit by bit, and in the end, all that remained was a giant crater with a radius of several thousand feet.
With its job done, the silver fire raven flew back to Han Li before landing on his shoulder as it reverted back to its humanoid form. However, its little face was slightly puckered, and it didn’t seem to be elated by its victory at all.
“You don’t like it here, do you?” Han Li asked as he turned to the silver figure.
The miniature silver figure hurriedly nodded in response.
“I don’t like it here, either. You can go back now, and we’ll leave this place right away,” Han Li said with a smile, and the silver figure instantly vanished from his shoulder amid a flash of silver light.
Han Li stowed his Azure Bamboo Cloudswarm Sword away, then took a glance down at Shi Chuankong, who he was still carrying by the collar. Only then did he discover that there was a black patch of skin on the back of his neck, clearly a sign of baleful qi infiltration.
His brows furrowed slightly upon seeing this, and he sped away in a certain direction.
Han Li’s Infernal Devilish Eyes remained active during the course of the entire flight, and after some time, he descended into a valley that he deemed to be relatively safe.
After landing on the ground, he flipped Shi Chuankong’s body over to conduct an examination, upon which he discovered that a great deal of baleful qi had already accumulated in his body. On top of that, he seemed to have sustained some rather severe injuries back in the True Mantra Sect ruins, so there was no way that he could wake up on his own.
Perhaps he could survive in his current state, but if left untreated, even if no further baleful qi infiltrated his body, this physical body of his would undoubtedly be ruined, and that would spell the end of his cultivation journey.
So be it. I’ve already saved him, so I might as well finish the job. As for whether he can make a full recovery, that’ll be down to him.
With that in mind, Han Li flipped a hand over to produce a longan-sized black pill that was giving off a slightly spicy aroma.
This was one of the Baleful Quelling Pills that he had previously refined.
This pill was quite difficult to refine, and it was exceptional at expelling baleful qi, but unfortunately, it couldn’t address the root of Han Li’s condition. Hence, it could only be used as a means to suppress baleful qi backlash, and at this point, he only had two Baleful Quelling Pills left, including this one.
After a brief hesitation, Han Li pressed the pill into Shi Chuankong’s mouth, then guided the pill down Shi Chuankong’s throat and into his stomach.
A pained look instantly appeared on Shi Chuankong’s face, and his brows became tightly furrowed in agony as he gave a muffled groan.
A sizzling sound rang out from the wound on his back, and wisps of black baleful qi began to rise up out of it.
Han Li monitored Shi Chuankong’s condition for a moment, then walked away and sat down with his legs crossed.
First, he examined the injuries on his arm, and after verifying that they were only minor injuries, he flipped a hand over to summon an Immortal Origin Stone, using which he began to replenish his own immortal spiritual power reserves.
In this place, it was impossible to replenish his immortal spiritual power by absorbing the world’s origin qi, so he would just have to rely on Immortal Origin Stones for now.
……
Time slowly passed by, and before long, the sky had turned dark, and the baleful qi imbued within the surrounding gray mist also became denser and denser.
Han Li slowly opened his eyes before sweeping his gaze over the surrounding area, then flipped a hand over to produce a stack of array plates and array flags.
Before long, an array had taken shape, producing a golden hemispherical light barrier that encompassed both Han Li and Shi Chuankong within it.
Han Li took a glance at Shi Chuankong to find that he was still unconscious and was displaying no signs of waking up at all. However, the pained look on his face had eased slightly, indicating that he was feeling a little better.
There were still wisps of black smoke rising up from the wound on his back before spreading through the surrounding air, and Han Li withdrew his gaze before looking upward, upon which he discovered that the clouds up above had become even darker under the night sky, further adding to the oppressive atmosphere in this place.
Deep within the dark clouds was a string of murky, glowing orbs, and it was a collection of six moons.
