A Song For A Summer’s Night - Chapter 129

Song Luli dodged Yu Haoran’s knives. That woman was relentless, but she wasn’t the only one who knew how to use them. Song Luli had some of her own, flicking them at her with precision. But seeing as to how pointless it was, Song Luli wanted to change things up.
“Why don’t we fight we with strength? Or do you only rely on weapons?” Song Luli challenged Yu Haoran.
Yu Haoran snickered, dropping her belt of knives. She then charged at Song Luli, swinging a fist. Song Luli ducked her head, punching Yu Haoran in the stomach. Yu Haoran staggered back, the smile from her lips died.
Yu Haoran clenched her jaw and swung her fist again. Song Luli raised her fists, protecting herself.
Yu Haoran then aimed for her stomach, and Song Luli lowered her arms, surprising Yu Haoran. Typically, a punch to the gut is not as bad as a punch to her head, and yet, Song Luli lowered her guard. Yu Haoran read her expression and smiled wickedly, knowing what Song Luli might be protecting. She then began to punch and kick, aiming for her stomach, throwing Song Luli off her momentum.
Song Luli kept staggering back. This is why she didn’t want to know if she was pregnant or not, fearing that she may lose it if she had come to fight. And yet, she was instinctively trying to protect her abdomen, even though she wasn’t entirely sure.
Song Luli dodged, and she kept moving back until she was so up close to the docks near the raging waters.
Song Luli hopped on a small yacht attached to the port, and Yu Haoran followed her, as they walked on a plank, still fighting. Song Luli glanced at the fighting crowd behind Yu Haoran, and she saw Long Jie fighting Han Ru unwaveringly.
Song Luli’s heart clenched. She then locked eyes with Long Jie, absorbing one good look at him. He was distracted, and Han Ru had sliced his leg, forcing him to half-drop to his knees.
“No!!” Song Luli shouted as Yu Haoran relished in half-triumph.
Long Jie willed himself to stand, trying to fight back.
With his wife cornered, Long Jie had enough. He kicked Han Ru on his ankle, forcing him to fall. Long Jie lifted his blade, ready to run him through. “Han Ru,” Long Jie said with a booming tone. “Look around you. Is this what you want?” he watched as Han Ru flinch. His eyes held disdain.
“Kill me,” Han Ru encouraged.聽”Do it now!”
“Why should I?” Long Jie questioned. “Why should I be angry with the victim? You were never given a chance with anyone, and you resent the world for it. Join us, Han Ru. Stop the Cloak, and we’ll forgive you. Please! I don’t want to kill you!”
Han Ru looked as if he was considering it for a moment. He glanced around them. There were bodies on the ground, either dead or barely breathing. People were still fighting persistently. Han Ru hesitated, unsure.
“If you don’t join us for me, do it for Luli,” Long Jie said.
Han Ru glanced behind him at Song Luli, who looked as if she was about to get plunged into the depths of the furious waves by Yu Haoran. He never liked Yu Haoran, but he had always yearned for Song Luli.
Song Luli was like a breath of fresh air, the first person to see him as Han Ru, and not the spoiled, arrogant child of a wealthy family. It was never Song Meiling that he wanted to begin with; it was Song Luli. But he pushed her away; he made her hate him because he hated himself, and he regretted it to this day. And even though Song Luli will never love him, Han Ru would hate himself more if anything terrible happened to her.
He then rose from the ground, dropping his sword. He exchanged glances with Long Jie, and they both bolted towards Yu Haoran and Song Luli.

Yu Haoran had drawn a knife that was sheathed from a leg strap. She waved it around to torment Song Luli.
Song Luli took steps back towards the end of the plank. Yu Haoran lunged the knife towards her stomach, and she missed.
She missed because Song Luli fell backwards, dropping from the top of the boat. She plunged into the water flatly, the pain shot up her back as she sank.
Though she knew how to swim, her limbs were exhausted, giving out. And she struggled to tread above the surface. She fought for air; she fought to move her body as she kept sinking, air bubbles escaping her lips, her vision blurring.
…
Long Jie dove into the water after Song Luli without hesitation, plunging into the fierce, cold waters. It was windy, and the waves were strong. He desperately searched for her after he saw what happened.聽It was dark as hell, but the post lights gave away some vision to see.
He caught some movement beneath as Song Luli extended her arm desperately.
Long Jie was worn out, but his will to save her was stronger. He reached out, grasping her hand. He pulled her towards him, treading to the surface with her in his arms.
They both gasped for air when they reached above, and Song Luli coughed out water harshly. He then pushed her over the dock, gasping for more breath.
Long Jie climbed over the dock. Soaking wet, he collapsed right next to her. They both stared at each other long, in silent relief, drinking in the sight of each other, surprised that they were alive.
“Is he…?” Song Luli began to speak, referring to Han Ru. Is he dead? She wanted to ask.
Long Jie nodded his chin back at the boat. Song Luli glanced up, and she smiled. Han Ru was fighting Yu Haoran, who was trying to defend herself until Han Ru pushed her, and she staggered backwards, hitting her head on the edge of the boat before tumbling into the water.
Song Luli winced, knowing it was impossible to survive that brutal fall.
Song Luli exchanged a sweet smile with Long Jie, but she then widened her eyes at a sudden realization, and asked, “What about the others?”
