A Supporting Character’s Love Story - Chapter 2
Ch 2
POV Shinji Makoto
“RRRRRRRRRRING RRRRRRRRRRING”
Ah its morning.
“RRRRRRRRRRING RRRRRRRRRRING”
“Shut up” I shouted as I switched off the alarm.
Damn, alarms are really annoying. No matter which tone you set as the alarm you start to hate it after a few days. I dragged myself out of bed with a lot of struggle.
“Fuck, its already 8’o clock” I cursed to myself while running down the stairs. There is no way I’m going to be late on the first day. That was the only thought on my mind as I quickly buttered some bread and stuffed it in my mouth.
“I’m leaving”, I yelled as I dashed out the door.
“But it’s still se…” came a faint reply from behind, but I couldn’t really hear it clearly.
I ran as fast as I could but got tired very quickly. There is one thing I forgot to mention about me, and that is I am not athletic. Luckily the school is not very far so I still made it there in 15 minutes.
“Huff Huff… Huff Huff…” I panted leaning on the shoe rack.
“Yo Shinji, what happened to you? Chased by a dog or something?” a voice from behind me came.
I knew who it was even without turning around.
“Sup’- huff huff… – Amano”
Amano Takeda. One of my friends. He is someone you can call a protagonist.
Last year he was absent on the first few days because of which he couldn’t join any friend circle and was a loner. Due to him sitting beside me in class, we got to know each other slowly. Later I got to know that this fellow was actually absent because he was hospitalized for saving a girl from an accident. Moreover, the girl he saved was one of the top students in our grade.
The cliches in his story almost made me cringe. But that’s not it, because he saved her, she actually fell in love with him and on top of that he even has a childhood friend who, guess what, loves him. Damn protagonists. Anyway, in the end he started going out with that girl with my assistance, much to the disappointment of his childhood friend, who apparently still likes him for some reason. Like bro, you should know when to give up.
This news of a loner dating the flower on top of a mountain was huge news. Since then, he has made other friends and is no more a loner on the bottom rung of the school hierarchy.
Just the memories of getting him to realize his feelings and confess gave me a headache, but still, I do feel jealous as well. It feels as if he is straight out of a light novel or something.
Just then, a bright voice came from a beautiful girl behind Amano.
“Good morning Takeda kun”
“Ah, good morning” Amano blushed a little as he answered her.
Sensing my time to leave I said “Well, I will leave you two lovebirds to it.”
“Wh-what are you saying Makoto kun. Lo-Lo-Lovebirds…” But before she could finish the sentence and defend herself, I had already left.
Aaah. The flushed faces of the two were so cute and satisfying. I am the sort of person who while reading a romance novel doesn’t have a ‘best girl’ but a ‘best couple’. I guess that goes well with my supporting role in life. As I was having these thoughts I realized something weird.
“Why is it so empty” it should be almost time for class.
I looked at my phone to check the time.

POV Akari Nakano
I got up quite early just in case, so I left the house with plenty of time to spare. As I made my way to school appreciating the beautiful spring weather and taking in the sights of the pretty Sakura trees, I saw someone rush past me. He was wearing the same school uniform as me.
“Why is he running? There is still time” I muttered as I looked at the time on my phone. He might have other circumstances I thought, and dismissed this incident.
On the way I met Hinata and Shizuo and we walked the rest of the way to school together chatting about worthless everyday things.
After changing shoes all three of us went to the bulletin board to check the class we were in. Since we were quite early, there was no crowd present there. I remembered last year when I had to squeeze in the mob just to get a glance at the board, and all that came out of it was disappointment. Because of this I was prepared to be separated from my friends again, but it seems lady luck was smiling on us.
“Yes!!!”
“We got it”
I also broke a smile and was relieved.
Class 2b, huh?
All three of us were in the same class.
Just then I heard someone behind me mutter, “2b? looks like he is in a different class”
It was the same person who I saw running in the morning. Our gazes met for a second before he looked away. Seems like he got separated from his friend. Well, not everyone can be satisfied.
“Let’s go check out the class.” Hinata said with sparkles in her eyes. Looks like she is very excited about being in the same class.
The layout of the classroom was the same as last year, the only difference was that it was one floor higher.
“Let’s check our seats”, I said noticing the sheet of paper on the softboard.
The desks in our class were arranged in 6 rows and 5 columns. My seat was in the last seat of the middle column. Shizuo and Hinata were in the 5th row of the 1st and 2nd column respectively. Not bad, at least we weren’t sitting in opposite corners.
Soon people started filling the hallway and more people came into the classroom. As I was chatting with my friends and greeting new people, someone sat on the seat to my left.
“Good Morning. Oh.”
“Ah”
It’s him again.
