A Supporting Character’s Love Story - Chapter 61
POV Kanade Hagihara
School had just ended and I was getting ready to go home when somebody came up to me.
“Kanade san can I talk to you for a second in private?”
I eyed the girl standing in front of me. What happened? Did she finally break from all that happened to her?
It was not only me who was looking at her in surprise, but the whole class. Although no talked about it because of fear, everyone knew what was happening between me and her. So to see her suddenly be the one to initiate a conversation with me came out of the blue.
“Kanade why don’t you hear her out.” A voice called out.
It was Seiji.
Is he trying to protect her again like last time?
I still hadn’t completely forgiven him for last year. If he didn’t interfere back then then today this girl wouldn’t be standing here in front of me like this.
I thought about it for a moment before agreeing.
The main reason was curiosity. Until yesterday she had been deathly afraid of me and now she suddenly wanted to talk to me. Also, it wasn’t like she could do anything to me, so what was the harm in accepting?
I followed her to behind the school building.
“Alright, what do you want?” I asked once she stopped and turned towards me.
Unexpectedly, she bowed down ninety degrees.
“I am sorry Kanade san.”
“haa?”
Has she really lost her mind. Does she think just apologizing like this will make me forgive her like nothing happened?
“Are you stupid?” I asked her out of annoyance.
She didn’t reply and maintained her bowing position.
“Why are you suddenly apologizing?”
That finally elicited a response out of her.
“It’s because I was the one who tried to hurt you in the first place.”
“Yes you did start it, and now you wish to end it at your convenience when you are on the losing end?”
“Th-Those were not my intentions.”
“Then what did you think? I was going to hug you and forget about everything?”
“I am not asking for anything else except for your forgiveness. I realized how unreasonably I was behaving and am now apologizing for it.”
She looked up at me as she said that and I was able to see her eyes. They were clear, without hatred, which surprised me again. Somehow she completely forgave my actions when she should have been festering hatred towards me.
Maybe she really did gain enlightenment.
“Oh, and what made you understand that?”
“That. It was Makoto kun.”
So it’s his work.
Now this whole thing was more believable. I had seen Makoto manipulate people enough to know that he was perfectly able to do something like this. He must be trying to get things back to normal by the looks of his actions recently. But something about this didn’t click in my head.
The thing is Makoto never left uncertainties in his plans. So was he really expecting me to forgive her just like that? Unless…
I looked around to see if anybody else was present and sure enough on the second-floor window Makoto was leaning with a phone camera pointed towards us, which was no doubt recording, with Seiji standing beside him.
Those two were in it together. Seiji must have known about this then. But even that was not what irritated me the most. It was the fact that another familiar figure was present there.
The building was behind Kaname, who was still half bowing, and that is why she didn’t notice what I was looking at.
He is really forcing this, huh?
Even I myself didn’t know why I felt so pissed at Arakawa being there compared to the other things. But that wasn’t the most important thing right now. I had to choose between whether to continue what I was doing, or forgive and forget.
“Haah… Fine. I give up.” I said loud enough to be heard by Makoto. “Raise your head. I forgive you.”
“R-really?” She said in a low coice as she looked up surprised at my response.
“Didn’t I say it already? But remember, if there is a next time… I won’t let you off so easily.”
Kaname had a huge smile as she left.
She really did have a complete change of heart and mind.
Thinking about it made me remember the person responsible for it and I quickly turned back to the window where the three were standing. Unfortunately, they were gone.
“Fuck you Makoto! I know you can still hear me.” I shouted as loud as I could before leaving as well.

POV Makoto Shinji
*10 minutes earlier*
“Kanade san can I talk to you for a second in private?”
So it has started. The final boss of the mission. But why is this girl trying to go somewhere else? The classroom is a better place for drama like this, on top of that you don’t even know if Kanade will go along with you. What are you going to do if she refuses?
It seems Seiji was also worried about the same thing as he also worriedly turned towards me.
I heard from him that after leaving me yesterday she went to his house to apologize and air out her feelings properly. So now the only thing left was to get Kanade stop her harassment.
Unfortunately, my hunch was spot on. Just by the look on her face I could tell Kanade was going to refuse her. But before she could say anything Seiji spoke up.
“Kanade why don’t you hear her out.”
Perfect save Seiji. I pointed a thumbs up at him. He saved this thing, but it was still not enough. If Kaname apologized in front of everyone in the class Kanade would have been forced to forgive and stop her actions to keep her reputation. If they were somewhere else she could easily refuse her without any repurcussions and nothing would change.
As they walked out of the class an idea hit me. If they aren’t in the class, I can bring the class to her. I hurriedly stood up from my seat and followed them, however, just as I was about to leave the class my eyes fell on somebody.
That’s right. I can even use him.
“Hey, Arakawa come with me, quick.”
“Wha-” before he could say anything I pulled him by his arm and dragged him with me.
“Shh. Stay quiet and follow me. I will show you something cool.”
Thankfully I didn’t lose them and was able to maintain a good distance behind them without being seen.
As they went further I realized where Kaname was leading Kanade. It was the classic behind the school building spot. There were a few trees there, behind which we could hide, but even that wouldn’t be a good enough spot. Just then I remembered Shimabukuro’s confrontation with Tanaka.
“Let’s go to the second floor follow me.” I said to Arakawa as I turned around to go tp the nearest staircase
“Oh.” On the way I bumped into the other key figure, Seiji. “Why are you here?”
“What do you mean? I was also worried about what would happen. Kanade is like very dangerous bomb that can go off anytime. How can I not be worried?”
“True. That is why I am bringing the defuser with me.”
“You mean him? Uh… Yamakawa kun?”
“It’s Arakawa.” Arakawa corrected him without any annoyance, as if he was used to it.
“Yes right, Arakawa kun.” Seiji rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment.
“You can introduce each later. For now follow me.”
In a minute we were in the same empty classroom from where I took the video of Tanaka kun.
I opened the camera app and just as I hit the record button the conversation outside started.
.
“Oh. She saw us.” I broke the silence.
“This is awkward. Maybe I shouldn’t have come.”
“I’m fucked. My workload is definitely going to be doubled for a few weeks now. Why did I come here?”
Seiji and Arakawa had starkly different reactions to that piece of information. I turned my head towards them and said, “It’s good she saw us. If she ddint I was going to send her a message to look here. Do think just a recording is enough to force her?”
“Why are you recording then?” Seiji asked with a confused expression.
“Just in case things go south we can at least shake her control if not destroy it with the recording.”
“What are you guys talking about” Arakawa asked.
Oh right. He doesn’t know the background of the story.
Seiji gave him a quick rundown of the relationship between Kaname and Kanade, while I focused on recording whatever was happening outside.
“Then how are you going to make Kanade san forgive Kaname san?” Arakawa asked after understanding the situation.
“That’s for you to figure it out yourself.” I replied instantly. I wasn’t going to poke my nose into things that weren’t related to me. Especially since after this I had completely piss her off.
Just as I said that, the victory signal came from outside.
“Raise your head. I forgive you.”
I quickly switched off the recording and dashed out as fast as I could.
“If you don’t want to be Kanade’s next target you better run.” I warned the other two of the urgency of the situation before running away. And sure, enough the next second a voice came from outside,
“Fuck you Makoto! I know you can still hear me.”
