A Web Of Magic - Volume 1 Chapter 67 Fleshly Success
Magnus was bent over a cauldron, stirring its contents whenever he added a new ingredient. He was inside Slytherin’s lab as he was in the process of making something complex- the Flesh-suit. The process had been going on for the last month and a half. The ingredients alone cost him around 100 galleons. That was after procuring some of the rare ingredients by himself from the forest. He even got Newt to mail him a Demiguise’s hair. Tonks too contributed a lock of her hair. The original recipe might have costed less but between his modifications and improvements, the price shot up. A few months ago, Magnus would have balked at the cost but his recent earnings still put him over 550 galleons of wealth. Besides, it was very important to his plans so he only wanted the best.
‘Alright, the troll essence is done. Now then, it needs flesh of the same weight as your preferred suit. I think 80 kilos should be a good weight. There you go, 80 kilos of fresh pork. Now for the last part- blood. Blood of the recipient. It should be the same volume as that in a person. That’d be 1.5 gallons,’ he looked at the glass bottle containing his blood. It was taken over the span of two weeks. It’s a good thing he made plenty of Blood-replenishing potions but he never wanted to go through that again. Draining your own blood is never a good feeling.
Magnus poured the blood and started muttering incantations as he waved his wand. He stopped after 15 minutes. The entire process had been tiring but it was finally over. Sitting still inside the cauldron was a silver colored potion. It seemed to glow at regular intervals.

‘That’s the highest amount of points I got for inventing a potion. Guess I outdid myself. Now I should check for safety just to be sure.’ He used his crystal focus to do a quick divination. The result was good and there wouldn’t be any side effects. His modifications paid off after all. He collected the potion in a vial and quickly downed it. It tasted like pork. A wave of heat spread through his body from the top to the bottom. Then silver lines lit up on the surface of his body. He quickly cleared his mind and focused on the image he wanted. Gradually, he was wrapped in a silver cocoon. After 5 minutes, the cocoon retracted inwards and standing in its place was a tall and handsome man.
He was about 6’1″ in height and had a slim yet muscular build. He had golden-blonde hair and green eyes that only added to his handsome looks. The only link to Magnus is his now tight Ravenclaw robes on him. He pulled out his wand and transfigured a nearby pile of parchment into a full-length mirror. He observed himself from top to bottom to check for any problems. There were none. ‘This is brilliant! Now this would make things much easier,’ Magnus thought to himself as he smiled. This was the base form of his Flesh-suit. He didn’t know much about aesthetics so he checked for a popular male wizard and found one Gilderoy Lockhart. Women loved him for some reason. Magnus didn’t have any good feelings about the guy but popularity was popularity and he needed it for his plan to work. He read that some matters would be simpler when you are easy on the eyes. Thus, he took some inspiration from Lockhart.
‘Now for some testing.’ With a quick thought his appearance now changed into a darker colored bald man which then changed into a black-haired blue-eyed man. Then he returned back to his blonde form. Another thought and he became invisible. This was better than his Disillusionment charm as it was better than a simple camouflage. This was possible due to the courtesy of the Demiguise Segal. ‘Good, very good. Now for the last part.’
With a thought, his fingernails now became claws. A quick slash and the table near him now had deep claw marks gouged on its surface. He didn’t feel much resistance when clawing through the wood. Next his exposed arm was covered in golden scales. This should increase his magic resistance to a higher level. He retracted all of the new modifications and his hand was back to normal. He took a look at his interface to once again confirm his success.

Just reading the initial portion of Slytherin notes gave his schools of magic a decent push. He didn’t even delve deeply into them. He could only wonder at the benefits he would gain then. His attention went to the most important gain from the Flesh-suit and from Slytherin’s notes on Curse Transfer. He combined the both with a generous application of [Comprehension mode] and [Inspiration mode].
The result is that he no longer has the negative effect Beast Blood (Deformation). It’s now transferred to his Flesh-suit and became Beast Blood (Transformation). He can now use the suit to transform parts of his body into different magical beasts. This not only resolved the problem without resolving to Newt’s method of mental battlefield, but he also retained the positive magical buff from the blood. His mind and magic stats also increased with his recent practice. He is now equivalent to or even better than most students who passed the O.W.Ls. He was satisfied with his progress. His schools of magic should soon level up to Lv5. With a thought the suit retracted into himself and his appearance was restored. He packed up his things and went back to his dorm with a slight spring in his steps.
Soon the exams came and went. The Ravenclaw room was filled with students bem.o.a.ning about mis-answered questions and lost marks. Just like usual. Roger was complaining to some first years that he might lose two marks and Noah was nodding his head seriously from the side. Magnus shook his head at their antics. These people make a drama just for a few marks. He did well and was going to get full marks anyway. He smirked silently to himself. The common room door opened all of a sudden and in came Prof. Flitwick looking all happy.
“Mr. Webb, just who I was looking for. May I have a word?” Flitwick asked.
“Of course, professor,” Magnus got up and followed him outside. The rest of the house members looked from afar at Flitwick’s happy face as he spoke to Magnus. They just assumed it was something routine. Those in the know knew about the deal that Flitwick had with Magnus. Even if they also wanted books from the personal collection of the professor, they knew only the topper of each year had a chance. So, they could only sigh and work hard.
When Magnus returned with a smile after talking to Flitwick, Roger and the others tried to pry the information from his mouth to no avail. He only had one reply for all of their enquiries, “You’ll know it soon.”
