A Woman Hopelessly In Love - Chapter 6 An Old Memory..
It was 3 years ago in mid March and in London, spring had just begun. Dr Shirley and her team was there for a Neurology conference. Dr Shirley had a small talk regarding her few unique cases. She was a sensational topic back then as she had done few surgeries which were extremely complicated and the results and outcome of the surgeries were excellent. Her methods were different from the usual book one’s. She explained every technique that she used during the procedures and that too in detail.
All the newbies and young male doctors had a thing for Dr Shirley. They would blush when she looked at them or asked them questions. Few of them even took her autograph in their books. As she was about to leave all the participants decided to have dinner together and her assistant also gave her a please look asking her to agree. So she also decided to go with them.
As they were having dinner they noticed few guys entering and sitting on the table besides them all of them starring at their table. Lily just came close to Dr Shirley’s ear and said “Someone is starring at you “. Shirley hesitated for a second and then took a glance. He was the same guy she saw in the conference who had taken her autograph.
They all talked and after finishing dinner Dr Shirley and her assistant got out to return to there hotel. The guy starring at her inside came out and approached her and said ” Hello. Dr Shirley.” She turned back to see him, she smiled. He blushed and his eyes twinkled. He said ” It was a pleasure to meet you and hear you speak. I am a Neurosurgeon in the making, After my residency I was confused about which branch to choose but once I saw your lectures and achievements I made my decision. You are my inspiration and I will make you proud one day.” She smiled and said ” Really good to know, I could help. All the best. I will wait for that day.” She gave her card to him and continued “Call me if you have any doubts and want my help.” Their taxi came they said goodbyes and left. She turned and saw him standing there staring at their taxi leave till it turned the corner. She could never forget his expression.
Now after years she saw him being brought in a stretcher in such a critical condition. Was this what she was waiting for ? She was blank when she saw him but gathered all her thoughts and dedicated herself to save him no matter what. Nobody knew what she felt how her mind was full of mixed emotions. It was aching for the bright mind like him lying on her table.
Over the years he had send many of his materials and papers to her. He had even achieved a huge place in minimal invasive surgeries. And was really appreciated for his continuous effort and hard work. And every seminar, every paper he published her name would be always be added as inspiration, reference and discussion. They never met though.
Last week he had called out of the bloom when she had gone for the seminar. He said “Hi! It’s Michael”. Shirley was stunned but responded without a delay ” Hello. Long time no see.” he said “Got busy you know my workload. I will be coming down to attend the conference the day after.” She replied ” Ok. Will see you then.” And then there was a moment of hesitation then he finally spoke ” Will you like to have dinner with me?” She was hesitant but said “Ok” thinking that a dinner won’t harm. But he never showed up nor was his phone reachable. She thought he got stuck in some emergency and it’s a not something new in there profession.
