Affinity:Chaos - Chapter 1611: The Second Prince
The Second Prince didn’t think too much about the issue, he decided to put it at the back of his head. The Sixth Prince was just killed, the Fourth and Fifth Prince were fighting each other, he was planning to kill the Third Prince within the next day.
The Emperor left and the Princes fell into shambles. However, it was expected since the Princes are all fighting for the throne, and now that the Emperor isn’t around to reign them in, they had the chance to do whatever they wanted to do all this while.
“I’ll stay here for a while.” The Second Prince said.
“You’re not welcome here.” The Third Prince didn’t have any reasons to hide his feelings towards his brother. He didn’t want the Second Prince around, although they didn’t have any issues, he just didn’t like him.
Grey looked at the atmosphere between the duo, he didn’t expect to see something like this.
The Second Prince didn’t mind the Third Prince’s words and walked into the castle, heading into one of the chambers, with Grey walking behind him.
The duo soon got to a room.
“Do you think the person will come again?” Grey asked the Second Prince.
“There’s no way to predict the purpose of this attack. It might be the work of one of our brothers. I’m hoping it is, actually, because it’s safer for us if it is. If it’s the work of someone outside the royal family, then we have a problem.” The Second Prince explained, “Anyone outside the royal family bold enough to kill one Prince, will be bold enough to kill all the Princes.”
Grey understood the meaning behind his words. The fact that someone dared to kill one of the Princes means that they could kill more.
“What about the cultivation stage of this person?” He asked the Second Prince.
The Second Prince shut his eyes for a moment before replying, “Definitely above the First stage. Might even be in the Mid stages. If this person is in the Mid stages or higher, then we have a serious problem. But from what I picked up with his story, I can assume that this person isn’t in the Mid stages, Second or Third stage at best.”
The Second Prince was able to guess the strength of the perpetrator, but never in his wildest dreams would he believe it was one of Grey’s friends. Grey and his friends were part of the few who could fight above their cultivation stages. The Prince knew about this, but he didn’t think the Seventh Prince would have any reason to kill the Sixth Prince, so after getting confirmation from there, although he was a little suspicious, he didn’t think it was the work of Grey or his friends. Of course, he as still wary of them, but he didn’t think they were the killers.
Hearing the words of the Third Prince further made him believe this. Grey was the only one among his friends in the Second stage of the Sovereign Plane.
Grey was secretly impressed at the deduction skills of the Second Prince. He pinpointed Alice’s battle strength from a few words. He was even able to eliminate the probability of her being stronger than the Third stage of the Sovereign Plane.
He was a bit curious, so he asked, “How are you certain this person isn’t above the Third stage?”
“Simple.” The Second Prince took a seat, “My brother’s guy sensed this person while he was on the way to assassinate the Sixth Prince and was able to report back. Anyone with a higher cultivation base will sense his presence and kill him before he sends back a report, or even, they would not allow someone in the First stage to sense their presence.”
Grey didn’t have any issues with the Prince’s words since he was accurate. Thinking about it, it was a very plausible explanation.
Grey didn’t speak about it any further, nodding in agreement to the Second Prince’s words.
The Second Prince was bothered with the matter and decided to head there personally.
“Let’s go. As much as I would want to stay here to help further our claim, I don’t feel comfortable with this person still around. I’ll inspect the place personally, if this person is still there, I will be able to fish them out with ease.” The Second Prince stood up, he originally wanted to stay, but he didn’t see the need to. He has to sort out this issue. The killer is still out there, and his life would also be in danger if he doesn’t stop them.
Grey didn’t have any objections with his words, he walked behind the Prince as they walked outside the room.
The Third Prince was on his way there with three people when he saw him.
“You’re leaving, good.” The Third Prince said.
“I have to investigate this. I didn’t want to go there, but after hearing what you said, I’ve decided to go there myself.” The Second Prince said.
The three men beside the Third Prince were all in the First stage of the Sovereign Plane, they took a glance at Grey curiously, but didn’t speak. Of the three, two were Necromancers and one of them was a Gnome.
Grey sensed their gaze and took a quick glance at them. The Second Prince took the lead, and he followed.
The Third Prince didn’t speak any further, he wanted them gone, so there was no point in delaying them. He also had the thought of investigating it, after all, one of his trusted guards was killed. If he didn’t find the killer, he wouldn’t be satisfied. The Second Prince is smart, so he knew if anyone could fish out this person, it is none other than the Second Prince.
Grey took a glance at the Third Prince as they walked past him. This was the only person he could use to force the Second Prince into using his puppet. As long as the Second Prince uses his puppet, then he could capitalize on it and take control of him.
At the moment, half of the Princes vying for the throne were under his control, but it was only the lower half. If he could place the Second and Third Princes under his control, his aim for the Gnome world would be almost achieved. He could even forgo killing all the Princes and just let nature take its course. As long as he was the one in charge, it doesn’t matter. And with more Princes alive, he would be able to get a better stronghold here.
More Princes meant more people supporting him.
‘Keeping all of them alive will take its toll on me.’
Grey thought about the matter, and decided to change his mind. He will only place three or four under his control, and kill off the rest. Now, he wanted to see which three should be left alive. He didn’t have any plans of leaving the First Prince alive, he is too strong, so the danger of keeping him alive was too high. It was best if he killed him.
The Second Prince was leading Grey to the Sixth Prince’s kingdom, while Grey was thinking about which Princes he would keep alive and which ones he would put under his control.
They soon got to the Sixth Prince’s kingdom.
The Second Prince started investigating from the side they used in entering, before slowly getting to the main city where the castle was located.
When he got there, the body of the Sixth Prince was still intact, it was easy to see that whoever killed him was a professional.
The man in the Sovereign Plane who was tasked with keeping the Prince alive looked like he was going to die when he saw the Second Prince.
“You can relax, you know I’m not the one who gives out punishment for these things, my elder brother will deal with you.” The Second Prince said before taking a proper look at the body of the Sixth Prince.
“Residual lightning.” He muttered as he grabbed the cold palms of the Sixth Prince.
“Whoever did this is a Lightning Elementalist.” He commented.
“That narrows the scope, but there are a lot of Second and Third stage Lightning Elementalists in the world.” Grey said.
The Second Prince didn’t speak and continued with what he was doing, after a while, he stood up and asked, “Where did you find the body?”
The man in the Sovereign Plane, although he was clearly in a confused state, he still pointed the Second Prince in the direction of where the body was found. When the Second Prince got there, he looked around and didn’t sense any signs of struggle.
‘Killed in an instant. This person is good.’
The Second Prince continued with his investigation, while Grey could only follow while thinking about what to do with the Princes.
The Second Prince is one of the Princes he felt like keeping alive, but due to his wits, he didn’t know if it was a good idea to keep him alive or not.
