Affinity:Chaos - Chapter 1622: Predator And Prey
**A.N: Reload the last chapter, it’s been fixed.**
Boom!
Grey’s figure crashed through seven buildings, bringing them down.
Most of the inhabitants of the city had already fled the area of the battle as quickly as they could. The impact of the battle alone is enough to kill them, so the further away they were, the better it was for them.
Some people were too slow and were killed by the impact of the attack. The most affected are those from the Family where the battle started. Almost everyone in the mansion below the Late stages of the Venerable Plane has been killed.
The eyes of the Family Head have turned red, but there’s nothing he can do. Alice was watching him closely, and the last time he tried to make a move, his puppet was instantly disintegrated by Alice’s attacks.
Grey stood up from the rubble and looked at the Old man and his puppet who were closing in on him, he shook his head and charged into battle once again.
Reynolds and Klaus were having an easy time, with the puppet being held back by Reynolds, Klaus could have a proper battle with the Old man. The defensive capabilities of Klaus shook the man’s beliefs. He didn’t believe anyone two stages below him would have such abilities.
The battle soon peaked, and the Old men found something amiss. One of the reasons they’ve refrained from going all out was because Grey and his friends haven’t used their puppets yet, but the battle has been going on a few minutes now, and they still haven’t brought out their puppets even with their disadvantage, it almost like they couldn’t bring out their puppets.
The two men communicated while the battle was going on and came to a conclusion. The group were not Necromancers. Throughout the course of the battle, none of them has tried to use the darkness element, which is something to be suspicious of. There’s also the possibility of their puppets being destroyed, but given how strong and destructive the darkness element is, they felt at least one person from the group should have used it at least once.
Since the trio fighting them couldn’t use puppets, there was no point in being wary of their puppets, so the two Old men went all out.
The strength of their attacks as well as that of their puppets saw a significant rise. Klaus and Reynolds were forced back for the first time since the duo started fighting the Old man and his puppet together.
Grey on the other hand was able to hold out against the Old man and his puppet, and the spike in their strength didn’t throw him off balance. He took the attacks calmly, evading and deflecting most of them.
More than half of the city has been destroyed, and Grey was making sure even more of it was being destroyed. This further proved the hypothesis of the Old men of them not being Necromancers, but thinking about the fact that they were under the command of the Seventh Prince and were sent on such a mission by the First and Second Princes meant that the Princes had them under control. However, the Old men weren’t bothered with this, all they wanted to confirm was if they had puppets, and now that they’ve confirmed this, they were more comfortable with using their full strength.
‘The Princes recruited people who don’t care about the well-being of Gnomes. This is bad, even for them.’
This was the thought in the heads of the Old men, but something suddenly happened that caught them off-guard.
Grey, who was fighting with one of the Old men and his puppet suddenly disappeared. Before anyone could react, he was already standing behind the other Old man who was fighting with Klaus.
With a powerful strike, he forced the man to take Klaus’s attack head-on.
Grey knew this sneak attack couldn’t kill the Old man, but it’s enough as long as Klaus’s attack struck the man. And it was just as he wanted, Klaus’s attack struck the Old man.
The other Old man tried to intervene, but he was stopped by Grey who returned as if nothing happened. He continued battling with the Old man, letting Klaus deal with his opponent.
Klaus’s attack that hit the Old man came with a freezing cold. The Old man could feel his entire system freezing slowly. He tried to stop it, but Klaus started harassing him with attacks, not giving him the chance to stop the cold. At first, the cold wasn’t that evident, but as time went on, the Old man soon started to notice how the cold was even starting to affect his thought process. Everything started to become slower than what they used to be. Even the puppet’s reaction was also becoming slow. Since the owner couldn’t think properly, the puppet could react in the same manner as when the owner was in full throttle.
The Old man fighting with Grey noticed the abnormality with his companion, and his expression changed. If this continued, there’s no way they would survive. Once one of them is taken down, it’ll only be a matter of time before the other is killed. If the duo were killed, it was over for their family. This is something they were well aware of.
The Old man looked at the Family Head and yelled, “Do everything to stop them for a few seconds.”
He knew all his companion needed was some time, but Grey didn’t have any plans of giving him that chance, this is something he knew, so he wanted to use the Family Head to help out. Their survival is more important than that of the Family Head.
The Family Head wanted to take a step, but then, he noticed the eyes of Alice that was on him, like a predator, watching a helpless, defenseless prey. There’s no reservations in her eyes, if he take a step, he dies. He swallowed his saliva and looked at the few survivors.
“Attack!”
