Affinity:Chaos - Chapter 1639: Life In The Flesh
Boom! Bang! Bam! Grey and the Gnome exchanged a couple of moves in the space of a second. Grey was faster, but the Gnome was stronger. Grey’s attack speed couldn’t give him the advantage over someone that’s far stronger. A Fifth stage Sovereign might not be able to defeat him, but going up against a Sixth stage Sovereign was different. The Gnome, even though he could see that he had the advantage, was lost for words. The fact that Grey was not only able to handle one attack, but over ten moves was outstanding. Any other Third stage Sovereign would be dead by now, yet Grey was still standing and has even been able to make sure none of the Gnome’s attacks got to him. ‘This human is too strong.’ This was the only thought in the head of the Gnome. He didn’t expect that Grey would be able to go blow for blow with him. He attacked with his strongest attack, and Grey blocked it, making sure to use the pressure from the attack to create a good distance between him and the Gnome.
“If you think you can kill me like this, I’m sorry, it’s impossible.” Grey chuckled. The Gnome’s expression turned cold, he knew from their exchanges, there’s no way he could kill Grey with just these moves.
“I’m surprised you’re this strong. But your arrogance is what is going to get you killed. You’re faster than I am, you could’ve easily escaped, but you waited, if my guess is correct, you think you can kill me.” The Gnome laughed playfully, he wasn’t afraid of Grey, he looked at him and said, “Your biggest mistake was believing you had a chance.” The Gnome’s aura spiked and a puppet appeared. Grey’s lips curved upwards, forming a psychotic smile. This was what he had been waiting for. As long as he could cut off the link between the Gnome and the puppet, he would get the chance to take out the Gnome. One thing he has noticed over the past months is that the higher the cultivation stage of the Gnome or Necromancer, the shorter the time they would be unable to react after the link is broken. Fortunately, a second is more than enough time for him to seriously injure the Gnome. As long as the Gnome is no longer a hundred percent, he was even more confident in taking him out. The Gnome’s aura continued to increase, and a puppet appeared close to him. The aura of the puppet was that of a Sixth stage Sovereign as well. Not all Gnomes are fortunate enough to have a puppet with a higher cultivation stage. Most of the Gnome’s generally grow their puppets, it’s easier than having to fight with an Elementalist that’s a stage or two higher than they are. Of course, this requires a lot of resources, but as long as a Gnome is strong enough and could get the right encounters, they can get the needed resources to grow their puppets. The Gnome looked at Grey as a smile formed on his face, “You’re strong, kid, but it ends here. Hand over the treasure and I’ll leave your body in one piece.”
“I don’t negotiate with Gnomes, I’m sorry. I feel like your kind is too impure for me to negotiate with.” Grey’s face had a hint of disdain as he looked at the Gnome. It was as if he was staring at an inferior being.
The look on Grey’s face infuriated the Gnome, and he snorted coldly, “You don’t value your life.”
He sent his puppet after Grey, while watching from a safe place. Due to the information they’ve gathered about Grey, most of the top Gnomes have started looking for ways to counter this, and one of the best ways is by keeping some distance from their puppets. Even though most of the Gnomes haven’t encountered Grey before, some of them have started to implement this strategy. This Gnome is one of the few who has. No matter who his enemy is, he started to fight in this manner, making sure he was safe. Unknown to him, he was fighting against the person he’s supposedly learning this new fighting style for. There is no way he or any other Gnome would believe Grey would dare to come into the Gnome world, so even though he was giving the fight some distance, he still wasn’t out of Grey’s reach due to being relaxed about that. Boom! Grey’s figure was sent crashing into the water by the puppet’s attack. The puppet is stronger than the Gnome, and from the looks of it, it’s very close to entering the Seventh stage of the Sovereign Plane. The puppet dived into the water, going after Grey. But Grey moved faster, bursting out of the water and striking with a dimensional slash. The puppet was a Wind Elementalist, sensing the danger, the Gnome controlled the puppet accordingly to retreat from the attack, dodging the dimensional slash, although one of its arms was cut off, but it was better that it could still fight, and since it doesn’t feel any pain, losing one arm wouldn’t affect its combat ability. The eyes of the Gnome showed a slight fear. If Grey used this attack on him when he wasn’t prepared for it, he would be in danger. Blocking a space elemental attack is always very difficult due to the uniqueness of the element. The space and darkness elements are two difficult elements to fight against. The space elemental attacks appear almost instantaneously, while the darkness element can eat through whatever defense you set up, making it very hard to handle. ‘I need to end this quickly.’ The Gnome thought he could easily handle Grey, but from the start of the battle till now, it has only been some seconds, yet Grey has defied his entire thought process. A Third stage Sovereign being able to battle a Sixth stage Sovereign is almost unheard of, but he knew it wasn’t impossible, it’s just that such figures are really rare, and they usually come from a powerful background, be it a Faction or Family. The eyes of the Gnome turned cold, he would never allow such a figure to escape from this place, if not, he would never be at peace. Rather than watching, he joined in on the battle, drawing close to Grey. When Grey saw this, a smile appeared on his face. ‘Finally.’
Although he was confident he could get close to the Gnome even with the previous distance, he wasn’t too confident he would be able to do significant damage to him. It’ll take at least a fourth of a second before he closes the distance to the Gnome after cutting off the link, and the time left might not even be up to a second before the Gnome recovers from the momentary shock he gets from having the link forcibly cut off. With the man closing the distance on his own, Grey was beyond relieved. The man was about to attack when he noticed Grey’s facial expression. He felt his heart skip a beat as he felt a great sense of danger. Without hesitation, he didn’t care to know where the danger was coming from, he retreated immediately. Unfortunately, it was already too late. Grey had already cut off the link at the time he felt the sense of danger, so even when he wanted to retreat, he was stunned momentarily, and unable to move. With Grey standing in front of him, he was unable to move as his core was attacked by Grey. He regained his senses just after a second, but his core had already been cut open as his essence started to rush out of his body. He looked at Grey in dread as his cultivation level plummeted. Within the first second he regained himself, his cultivation dropped to the Fifth stage of the Sovereign Plane, and he could tell it was heading further.
“You…” His eyes widened, he was too shaken to even make a move. There’s only one person who he knew could achieve something like this, and that person is said to be in the God’s tomb. One of the reasons the Emperor used such large manpower was to ensure Grey was killed in the God’s tomb. If what’s said about him is true, then he was too dangerous to allow to grow. Someone like that could almost single-handedly defeat them once he gets to the Half God Plane. They’re not the only ones in danger, even their God Plane Elementalist might be in trouble if Grey goes on to become a God.
“Grey Dawson?” The shock in the eyes of the man was evident.
“Life in the flesh.” Grey smiled sheepishly as he watched the man’s cultivation level drop to the Fourth stage of the Sovereign Plane.
