Akila Darkbrother: Book Two Of The Kasai Series - Chapter 14
Akila was high up in the sky, tears still streaming down her face. In her hand was her scythe, but it was slowly slipping out of her grasp as she flew. She wasn’t very far from the village where she just was. She knew that the journey back to Miniro would be long and frivolous. The wind blew through her hair and it flew into her eyes. She shook her head and felt her scythe leave her hands. She stopped and turned in time to see it fall into the forest under her. She shot down to the trees and softly landed on the ground. She turned in circles, looking for her scythe but couldn’t find it. She dropped on her knees and started rummaging around in the bushes. She felt something sharp and felt around for the stick it was connected too. She thought it was her scythe and pulled it out. It was a longsword with a beautifully carved handle. She examined the handle and found the crest of Miniro on it. She looked around for the name that was usually engraved into the metal. She couldn’t see a name though. Either it had been worn away by use, or it was a choice to not have it engraved. Then she realized the one sword that she saw that never had an engraving. King Josiah, the ruler of Miniro. Akila stood up immediately and held the sword in her hands ready to attack. She heard rustling coming from behind her and she turned around. Behind her was nothing. She sighed in relief. She dropped the sword to her side and started preparing to get back to the sky. She started to beat her wings and started up to the sky. She only moved for a few seconds as something grabbed her ankle. She looked down and saw a cloaked figure. Akila moved her ankle ferociously to try and escape their grasp. Their grip only became tighter. Akila beat her wings harder to try and get away. The arm of the person pulled her down to the ground. She hit the ground hard, knocking the sword from her hands and to the side. The figure bent down and grabbed it while still holding onto Akila. She still struggled to escape but failed. The man stood back up and his hood fell. Akila gasped in fear for she has found the person she most fears.

“Thank you for finding my sword Akila, I was looking for it. I’ve been following you for miles. I saw you in that village, though it was very unexpected for Charles to take your place, he must love you dearly,” said King Josiah, putting the sword back in its sheath. He grabbed Akila’s throat and slammed her against a tree. Akila gasped and struggled to breathe. She grabbed his arm to pull it off but his grasp was too strong. He looked at her and smirked. He lifted his other hand and traced his finger along her cheek.
“Oh Akila, you made a mistake running away, and now your little boyfriend is going to pay for it,” Josiah said laughing. Akila still struggled to escape, but she was losing breath quickly. Her vision was starting to get fuzzy.
“Well, Akila, it’s time to go home. This time will be the same as always. I still need your magic”
Akila started to lose vision and passed out. Josiah dropped her and slung her sleeping body over his shoulder. He started the journey back to Miniro with Akila’s silent body.
