Akila Darkbrother: Book Two Of The Kasai Series - Chapter 2
It was about noon. Akila was still walking through the forest. She could hear the chirps of birds. She thought about flying out of there. Akila decided since she was being chased it wasn’t the best idea. She could easily be spotted. Her wings were tired anyway. Akila looked up and in the distance and saw a small tuft of smoke. She kept walking till she came upon a small village.
It was quaint and tiny, but it felt safe. There were few people roaming the village. As Akila walked through, she could feel people staring. She looked at every building till she found a Pub and Inn.
Akila walked inside and saw that the only ones there sat at the counter. The pub owner was busy helping people so he didn’t notice her walk in. The others at the counter turned around and saw Akila standing in front of the door. She walked up to the counter and sat down. As soon as she did that they all got up and ran out the pub. The pub owner looked puzzled. He turned around and saw Akila sitting there. He immediately left the counter and ran away. Not many people were used to seeing a demon in their pub. Akila decided to find the stairs and let herself into one of the rooms.
She chose the back room. It was large for being in a Inn. There was a Queen bed on one wall and a closet on the left wall. There was a dresser and a vanity. Akila noticed a small writing desk in the corner. She walked over and sat on the bed. She sank down into the mattress. Her eyes felt heavy. She shook herself awake and stood up. Since her room was empty and there wasn’t much to do,
she decided to go back down to the pub.
The pub was empty, except for someone sitting in one of the booths with their cloak hood covering their face. Akila ignored them and went behind the bar. She searched the shelves and grabbed a pitcher of what seemed like water. She walked out from the bar and sat at the nearest table. Akila dumped out the cup on the table and refilled it with the water, taking a sip. She set the cup back on the table, put her hands on her face and leaned back against the back of the chair. She sighed in frustration. She took her hands off her face and took another sip of water. She could see the person in the booth stand up. His hood covered his face still. He left the booth and walked over to her table. Akila looked at him and stared as he pulled out the chair in front of her. He sat down and looked directly at Akila.
“What do you want?” She said as she took another drink of water.
“Where are you from?” The person asked.
“Wow, not even gonna ask what my name is, rude.” Akila replied.
“Fine, What’s your name?” They said, frustrated.
“Name’s Akila DarkBrother. What’s yours”
“My name is Charles Elriyand.”
“So Charles, you wanted to know where I was from, right?” Akila said.
“Yeah.”
“When I was young I was taken from my clan in the darker side of Hell. The people who took me killed them all. They then closed the portal that brought them to my home for good. I was trapped in this realm. They took me to the Kingdom of Miniro. They put me in some kind of holding cell, I didn’t know what it was at the time, but I soon figured out it was a kind of testing room. They experimented on me and tried to find how to extract my magic from me and give it to their King. I was finally able to escape last night. Now can you take your hood off?”
The man lifted his gloved hands and removed his hood. It was like looking in a mirror. His skin was the same shade of gray as Akila’s. His hair was blood red. His eyes were a bright red, not black like hers. Akila cocked her head and was ultimately confused. How could someone look like her. The only ones who did was everyone in her clan.
“Are you from the Clan of Poutea?” She asked suspiciously.
“Yes, I was able to escape the men after you were kidnapped.”
She sat there confused that someone had survived. She felt a need to take another drink of water but stopped herself.

“How did you get here? The portal was closed.”
“I was walking around one day not too long ago, and I found the men trying to attack another clan. They were being pushed back to the portal as the clansmen and women fought back. I was able to sneak through the portal right before the men ran away. I was roaming around for days until I stumbled upon this village. I guess it was the same time you got here because I could see you walking through the square and in here. I kept myself in the shadows and stole a cloak from a shop and came in here to try and confront you without you knowing my identity.”
Akila stood up in disbelief and walked to the stairs, “I don’t believe you.”
She walked up the stairs as she heard Charles move his chair. Walking back to her room, she shut the door.
Akila sat on the floor with her back against the door. Nothing made sense to her. “If he really was a member of our clan then he would know our leader,’ She thought. She sat in front of the door and waited till she heard a quiet knock on the door.
“Akila, open up. I know it’s hard to believe me. If you want to know if i’m telling the truth then ask me something someone from our clan would only know.” Charles said.
“Who was our leader?” Akila asked.
“Our leader was Encyc the Bold.”
Akila sat straight up at the name. She stood up and faced the door. Grasping the doorknob, she opened the door, “Come on in.”
