Akila Darkbrother: Book Two Of The Kasai Series - Chapter 6
Akila pushed Charles off of her and onto the ground. He looked at her in pure confusion. Akila kicked him in the side and stormed off into the forest. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw him grip his side and stand up.
Akila walked through the forest till she found a small creek flowing from the west. She found a large fallen tree nearby and sat down and put her scythe next to her. “Why did he think that it was okay to do that?” she thought. Akila lifted her hand up to her neck and unclipped the clasp on the locket. She held it in her hand and flipped it open. “What was this for?” She thought. Akila shut it again and muttered “Pyani.”. The same glowing light came out of it, but this time it started to move in different directions, to her left and her right, encircling Akila. She stood up, confused. She felt her feet warm up suddenly and she looked down. Her boots had changed. They were now taller and a really light grey, almost white. Her skirt seemed to split off into two separate lengths of light blue fabric. Akila slowly realized that she was somehow wearing a leotard of the same color. Her wings starting turning purple and crystallizing. They looked like solid purple and blue flames. She was utterly confused. She messed with the fabric on her sides. She turned her head and heard a crack of wood in the forest. She turned back and muttered again. In a split second she had returned to her regular clothes. Akila sat back down and put the locket back on. The sound of rustling leaves alerted her. She grabbed her scythe and stood up. As soon as the sound stopped Akila turned around and pushed Charles against a tree, her scythe at his neck. He looked at her, scared for his life. His neck was stretched out, trying to avoid the blade. Akila moved it closer and said, “Why did you do that back there!?”
“I-I just-t….” Charles said, stuttering. He was whimpering and sweat was rolling down his face in fear.
Akila pulled the blade back a little, but it was still at his neck, “I would like an explanation before I slice your throat!”
Charles looked at Akila and sighed, “When we met in the pub, I couldn’t keep my mind off of you. I thought maybe you were the same. I decided to go for it. I guess that wasn’t the best idea.”
“Yeah, it wasn’t. What even made you think I felt like that!?” Akila replied dropping the scythe.
He looked at her and dropped to the ground. He was panting. He looked up at her then looked away in shame. Akila turned around and went back to where she was sitting. She set her scythe back at her side and sighed. Akila sat there, hearing Charles pant behind her.
