Zephyr watched as the people laughed and smiled as if a battle had never taken place over a year and a bit ago. The people of Summerwind thriving as they went on their daily lives. Zephyr smiled as she remembered coming to the town with her broth when they were pickpockets, how the people were before.
Gale glanced around to find the inn they had stayed in before the attack to see what it looked like when a familiar voice called from behind them.
“Prince Gale? Lady Zephyr? Is that you?”
The two looked to where the voice coming from and noticed someone the recognized. “Marie!?” they called out in unison.
Marie ran up to them as she walked from her unit. “What are you two doing here? And where are the others?” Marie happily asked.
The two looked at each other as their face turned grim. “Is there somewhere we could sit and talk?” Gale asked.
Marie nodded as she went and told her unit that she was going to be a while. Then King Orville walked over to greet them. “Lady Zephyr, Prince Gale, it has been too long.”
Gale smiled as he shook Orville’s hand, “Yes, too long. Now, why are you here with Marie?” Gale asked.
Orville smiled as he orders a drink, “We came to see the finishing touches with Lord De Rosier and having Marie’s men as my escorts before sending her to Grand Dale.” He explained to Gale.
Gale turned away as heard of his home. “Oh, I seeWhat business do you by sending Marie.” Gale asked distantly.
Orville could see Gale’s grave expression. “Your father asked me to send my best griffon rider to train someone? I don’t know who, but I will be sending Lor De Rosier there as a martyr to deal with our alliance matters. As we wish to stop the war from continuing any further.” Orville looked at his people. “Summerwind was the worst hit in over two decades. As to why they attack? We believe a novice general was too eager to please to where now he is dead thanks to his efforts. But at the same time, the Demora is becoming bolder with his attacks. As more skirmishes around our border are becoming more frequent.”
Gale tightened his fist. As Zephyr glanced at him. “Uncle, do you think this alliance will work?” She asked.
Orville shook his head, “I have no idea if it will, but I am more worried about is to why you two are here and not with Lovell and the others?” Orville popped the question.
Gale turned away as Zephyr closed her eyes, “Lovell is dead, and we had a falling out. Lance and Scarlett went off together, Fang and my brother stormed off, and Luna is now with Hunter somewhere. Looking for allies to aid in the war efforts.”
Marie stood up and glared at her, “Wait, Hunter! The same Hunter that is Azoths clone puppet!?” Marie screamed in protest.
“Yes, Lovell saved him after he was already kicked out after Azoth killed Ark. Lovell and made him the new leader of the Ren-Ky’s, butas you can seewe left feeling he was unfit or we just didn’t want to” Zephyr trailed off as Marie stared at her in anger.
Orville raised his hand in front of Marie as she glanced over at him and sat back down. “I see, I am guessing you two ran then? telling by your expressions of guilt?” Orville asked as they winced. He sighed as he smiled at them, “And what ore two doing now? Are you going to head back and apologize, or are you going to seek out some answers?”
Zephyr stared at her uncle. “We are going to seek out answers to questions we have yet to ask. We promised Luna that we would return once we found our place again. But all we have been doing so far is wallow in self-pity. Miss Kana has suggested we see a friend of hers in Winterstorm.” Zephyr explained.
Orville smiled as he reached over to her. “Very well, then. I am guessing you want to keep your affairs kept a secret until you are ready to see your friends again?” Zephyr nodded at his question. “I see, if Marie or I see them, we will not tell them anything. You two find yourselves, and then when the time comes, go to them. As they need you as much as you need them.”
Zephyr felt tears welling up as Orville smiled at her. “Thank you, uncle. Thank you.” Zephyr began to sob as Gale hugged her.
Orville could see that they were bonding over their pain. “Gale, may I speak with you in private?”
Gale nodded as he and Orville left the table. Marie slid over to Zephyrs’ side to comfort her. While Gale followed Orville way from earshot.
“What do you want to talk about?” Gale asked him.
Orville glanced at Zephyr, “The way you were holding my niece, it looks as if you two are either bonding like siblings or as lovers. It’s a fine line to cross to where either side could hurt her if not dealt with delicately. But if it comes to where she falls in love with you, and you don’t make sure that she understands your reasoning.”
Gale turned red at Orville’s commentary. “Wait, you think thatShe and Icould become a thing?” Orville slowly nodded at Gale as he became fl.u.s.tered. “King Orville I-I don’t think will ever happen?”
Orville sighed as he turned to see Gales red face, “Yet, I can happen. If it does, don’t do anything stupid. As a person would do anything for the one, they love.”
Gale turned away as he knew what he meant. “Yes, I know. You had the same thing happen to you then where one of the gods of time told you how the Farein kingdom was actually formed?”
Orville nodded, “Ye, but I am guessing yours happened long before you met Lovell or even Lance?”
Gale glanced at him before leaning against the wall, “Yes, I was six or so when Lork came to me and told me. I didn’t think much about it as now that I meet Mama K and her grandsons, I can see why she didn’t stop him.” Gale gritted his teeth, “I just wish we knew why Demora was like this? If love didn’t stop him, what will? I feel that he is immortal and can not be killed by a mortal bladeor any weapon for that matter.”
Orville nodded. “yes, I know what you mean, but if we can not stop him now, the world would surely falter, and we could have more than just stillbirths within our people population. This war could have the people destroy themselves.”
Gale nodded as he took a deep breath, “Yes. I think we should head back as I can see Zephyr has calmed down now.”
Orville nodded in agreement as he unbuckled a bag from his sid. “Hey, take this coin. You will need it in Fallmist. Where Springrain has its roads closed for the time being.”
Gale thanked Orville as he walked over to Zephyr.
