- Chapter 337: I think I’ve heard it somewhere before…?
“Ahh, what a sublime, holy place…I can’t believe a temple like this was built in the blink of an eye…”
A beautiful, foreign-looking woman unintentionally let out those words of astonishment.
She was currently in the wasteland village’s cathedral. It has become one of the village’s most important facilities, bringing in a great number of people from all sorts of places.
However, the woman was no ordinary visitor. She was actually the Divine Emperor Meisei, the one who ruled the nation of Kyou. She had never showed her face in public back home, yet she nonetheless secretly traveled out of her nation, crossed the monster-infested mountain range, and arrived here in the village.
In the past, such a dangerous course of action would be impossible to accomplish. By making use of the railways system that ran underground, however, one could could now quickly and safely travel from the center of Kyou to other places.
“And it’s not just this temple. This whole city was built in only a few years, and in a wasteland like this of all places…if this is not the power of our savior, I don’t know what is. Like I thought, Luke-sama truly is the Maitreya Bodhisattva given flesh.”
Convinced of that all over again, she made an oath while shedding tears.
“To be born in the same period as him is undoubtedly the greatest fortune of all. I shall devote my life serving him, acting as best as I could to be his arms and legs.”
◇ ◇ ◇
There have been a sudden increase in the number of people from Kyou visiting our village.
Unlike the samurai from Edou who came here to train and the merchants from Osaku who came here to trade, these people from Kyou apparently traveled to visit our cathedral.
<<Cathedral: a holy facility that serves as the center of faith. If one was to pray sincerely here, maybe they can receive the divine protection and favor of the gods?>>
Our cathedral could accommodate about a thousand or so visitors, yet many people from Kyou were still lining up in front of it. To remedy this, many priests from the Grand Cathedral of Areisler were dispatched to our village so that several services could be held in a day.
“But why are so many of them here…? I mean, the people of Kyou practice an entirely different faith, don’t they?”
I would have been quite unsure of what to do in case a war in the name of religion broke out, but strangely enough, a lot of the visitors were monks with shaved heads. It was quite strange to see those who should be the most adherent believers of the teachings of Buddha excitedly visit another faith’s establishment.
“I suspect even more will come soon, so it might be a good idea to build accommodations for them.”
While I was thinking that, someone who seemed to be a visitor from the east suddenly caught my attention.
“Tears…?”
A girl in the middle of her teens was crying like I’ve never seen before. Worried that something bad might have happened to her, I was unable to leave her alone and thus decided to call out to her.
“Ahm, are you alright?”
“AH! L-Luke-sama!?”
The moment she turned to look, her eyes became wide open.
I had never seen her before, yet she already knew my name and even addressed me with a ‘sama’. Those things wouldn’t have been all too strange, but…
“Huh? That voice just now, I think I’ve heard it somewhere before…?”
“*(I can’t believe Luke-sama called out to me…!)*”
“Have we met before?”
“*(Ahhh! I could revere Luke-sama directly, without any bamboo screen in the way…but that also means he could see my own face directly…!)*”
“Ahm…are you alright? Your face is so red…”
“*(Aaaaaaa! T-this is so embarassing! I’ve only talked to people through the screen, so just speaking face-to-face is enough to make me tensed. That’s to say nothing of talking to Luke-sama of all people…!)*”
The girl just acted flustered and didn’t answer any of my question.
“*(He must be thinking I’m some strange person! W-w-w-what should I do!? No, now that it has come to this, what else can I do but escapeeeeeeeeee!)*”
“Ah…and she’s gone.”
The girl turned on her heel and ran at full speed.
Did I say soemthing strange…?
