- Chapter 340: I’ll make sure to educate them properly later
One day, I received summons from the king.
“Are they going to push something troublesome on me again? Or are they angry that I began trade with the eastern nations without consulting them first…?”
I wasn’t enthusiastic about it, but I had to respond nonetheless.
At the very least, I didn’t have to suffer a long commute as I could simply teleport all the way to the castle. That said, some part of me was wishing I had been a bit more secretive about my teleportation. It just felt like they were all casual in summoning me because they knew I could teleport with ease. In fact, they even had a room reserved for me to teleport to.
“We have been expecting you, Luke-sama.”
“…princess”
And in that said room, I almost always found Princess Darinea herself waiting for me.
“Fufu, Luke-sama, how many times have I asked that I’d rather you call me by my nickname Dari?”
“Well, even if you say that, to address our kingdom’s princess so casually like that is just…”
When I tried to turn down her unreasonable request like that, the princess arched her brows, looking dejected.
“Why not…? Especially when your body double had deemed it acceptable to address me as such…”
“……I’ll make sure to educate them properly later.”
One body double was always stationed in the royal palace.
I wanted to call it back when the work it was required to do was finished, but the king and the princess both pleaded to let it stay in a room within the palace instead.
“If you won’t have that, how about I address you as darling?”
“And why would you do such a thing!?”
It was then that I remembered I didn’t come here to talk with the princess.
“Ahm, I don’t want to keep the king waiting, so…”
I concluded our exchange there and headed for the audience chamber.
“Ohh, Luke, thank you for coming.”
Sitting atop the throne was King Darios III, King of the Celtia Kingdom.
Age-wise, he was in the latter half of his thirties.
In contrast to the kings of the past who were nothing more than puppet rulers for the court nobles, King Darios III was exceedingly talented. And after the defeat of House Albert, he had worked tirelessly to bring power back to the crown in this kingdom that used to be in a state of civil war.
“How may I be of service today?”
“…do not be so on guard. I admit we had been continuously relying on you, but…but today, it is not I who has business with you. Instead, there is someone who has expressed their utmost desire to meet with you.”
“Someone wants to meet me…?”
As I tilted my head wondering who that could be, the king signaled and a group of people entered the audience chamber.
Representing the group was a young woman who seemed to still be in her mid-twenties.
“It is a great honor to meet you, Luke-sama. I am Ian, and I stand before you as an envoy of the Gobaldo Republic.”
“Gobaldo Republic…? You mean the country to our west?”
The Gobaldo Republic—which was not ruled by a monarch but instead of a parliament—was a union of many autonomous states. That being said, the size of their country was still smaller than that of the Celtia Kingdom’s.
“Indeed.”
“But what does an envoy of a neighboring nation want with me…?”
“To be frank, we heard of rumors about the wasteland city you govern. I am told you have built such an advanced and magnificent city in only a short span of time.”
It’s just a village though.
“We would absolutely like to visit and observe your village in hopes that doing so will help us in our own urban development.”
“Hmm…even considering that you’re from another nation, I don’t seen any reason to refuse your request to visit us. So, I suppose you’re welcome to observe as much as you want. I must say though, I don’t think you’ll find many things that you can use…”
The village was made with my Gift after all.
So, even if they asked me about our infrastructures, I wouldn’t be able answer much of anything.
“Thank you very much!”
Ian-san and the rest of the envoys looked so pleased, I didn’t have the heart to put a damper on things.
