An Average Guy In A Shinobi World - Chapter 23
Rei woke up on a weekend since there is no class for today he steeled himself and went through his morning routine of preparing himself up then pick out his training gear. Rei doesn’t have a meeting with anyone he would train for the whole day making up for the days he could only train in the afternoons. Rei has always valued his training since this is his only way of somehow preserving his life in the future, taijutsu is somehow his backup plan as well if his plans of developing his own techniques that doesn’t require a lot of chakra fails and if learning genjutsu somehow ended up makes him a mediocre he could only grit his teeth and suffer training his body to the very limits and using the brute force of his body to somehow survive in this world. Using his knowledge from his previous life of body strengthening that he has been following since he began training on his own since he didn’t want to follow the strengthening methods of his father. Rei didn’t quite get the crude methods of body strengthening workouts in this world since he looks at them as “ancient method” so he rather follow what he knew from his previous life making his workouts much more effective in developing his overall physical capabilities while doing all this his shadow clone train taijutsu and bukitjutsu fighting forms. Mokichi woke up in the middle of Rei’s training, looking out of their window he was impressed by his son’s training methods of strengthening his body.
Mokichi: That’s an interesting way to train your body rei, where did you learn that?
Rei: I created it dad… I’ve been training the way you taught me for some time and I guess that I wasn’t really developing every muscle in my body… I tried every movement that would make me use my muscles and arrive at this set of movements after some experiments since I was sure that training punches, kicking, and other attacking movements won’t be enough. I left that to my shadow clone since it was more of knowing and instinctively doing it through repetitions its memories will flow back to me anyway after I disperse is so it would mean I did it too.
Mokichi: this is actually a very good idea taijutsu users would be able to develop their speed and strengths faster. Imagine if you create equipment solely for this training… but not right now for you kid since you haven’t reach the limits of training with just your body weight sooner or later though it would but you are still growing so it won’t really affect your growth but as you grow anyway you become heavier… so it’d take some time for you to use weights. Meanwhile teach me those moves so I could train in them as well.
The father and son duo bonded over training their physical bodies to push themselves to the limits later on Mokichi took out a scroll from their room and unsealed training weights then attached them towards his limbs and body. Rei was intrigued by his father’s actions since he thought that his father might’ve somehow already reach his peak but he was wrong into thinking that since Mokichi still strives to improve his physical prowess as a shinobi an additional speed or strength would be welcomed no matter how small the amount is. Rei wanted to ask his father this time about combat since he knows there’s a lot of things he doesn’t know.
Rei: dad, who’s harder to beat a tricky opponent or someone with extreme physical abilities?
Mokichi: Definitely the person who’s got extreme physical abilities for example if he is extremely fast you’ll be helpless against that person’s attack if you don’t have a strategy against that… or if they have ridiculous physical strength the probability of them having wicked equipment is high like massive maces, armors or battle boots, gauntlets, claws… on the other hand tricky opponents are easy because you just have to figure out the trick then everything is over but if you don’t you would usually be in the losing side unless of course you are absolutely stronger than him. A lot of these tricky opponents have peculiar weapons as well able to twist in the air or hidden weapons on their sleeves so you should keep your guard up.
Rei: is that why you didn’t specialize in genjutsu dad, since genjutsu’s are illusions that can somehow be equal to a trick?
Mokichi: genjutsu’s are very peculiar rei sure you can consider it as a trick but getting out of it is extremely hard and some extremely strong genjutsu users would just take your life without you even knowing it. Some genjutsu are also strong enough to trap your mind for quite some time allowing your opponents to kill you easily some are strong enough to knock you out as well. lucky for me though that the strongest I’ve seen are B-rank genjutsu so far and I have trained myself to resist genjutsu of that level but those things are already enough to finish off majority of the ninjas.
Rei: so it’s not that bad to practice genjutsu?
Mokichi: yeah, it is actually really good to have accomplishments in it since normal ninjas have a hard time defending against it and the chakra consume is not large. But rei I can’t guide you in genjutsu since I can only defend myself against it.
Rei: that’s ok dad… I plan to learn genjutsu but of course I won’t stop myself from genjutsu alone I’ll learn some other things too. I have shadow clone anyway when my chakra becomes larger I think it won’t affect my training in taijutsu and ninjutsu.
Mokichi: ok then I’ll try to look for someone to teach you or you could figure it out yourself… it’s ok to be a well-rounded ninja rei but if you don’t reach jonin level in at least one of them you’ll end up a mediocre.
Rei: don’t worry dad I’ll never quit on my training I’d at least reach jonin level in taijutsu… I won’t stop breaking through my body’s physical limits. But what if I include Minor illusions with my movement dad, like fusing clone technique within my movement to confuse my opponent’s senses.
Mokichi: you can leave after images when your physical body reaches a certain level…
Rei: I mean dad what if I’m going to attack you but I send out my illusion first as a feint to get a reaction then strike once I saw your move or use illusions to confuse your sense of distance or make multiple feints with illusion then attack you from you blind spot while fighting in close combat.
Mokichi: if your taijutsu reach high levels combine with that… it would be something even I wouldn’t like to face but it requires extreme mastery of genjutsu and probably extreme chakra control as well since you are going to perform it while fighting at high speed.
Rei: so, it is possible?
Mokichi: yeah, but the concept might be simple but the effects it would have in combat would be extremely visible. The reason is since even kage level ninjas might have some difficulty in it since it is not really a full blown genjutsu attacking them but illusions in a span of time shorter than a second to confuse the sense of distance or sight but it would be enough to kill your opponents if your taijutsu is on par with that old man… but you have to be also aware that the eyes are not the only tools of ninjas to judge their opponent’s movement there are those who can sense chakra and presence.
Rei: old man?
Mokichi: oh, there was a taijutsu master before by the name of chen in our village but I’m not sure if that guy is dead or alive he has a tombstone here in the village though.
Rei was stupefied when he heard the name chen since that guy was strong enough to be resurrected by kabuto in the fourth great ninja war even though he was already way pass his prime. Sure rei doesn’t remember about seeing it in the manga but in the anime, he fought with might guy to a tie before rock lee arrives with a drama commencing right after. If that old man chen really exist in here then rei would have to seek his guidance even for a bit besides he could use ninjutsu so maybe the old man would teach him somehow since his regret is teaching his student taijutsu and becoming a ninja despite not having a ninjutsu which took his student’s life in the third shinobi war. Rei doesn’t need the full inheritance of the old man’s taijutsu he just wants to be mentored in close combat to improve his techniques besides the man was a good teacher so good that he taught a boy with no ninjutsu skills to become a shinobi and fought in the third ninja war although that student of his ended up dying his taijutsu prowess should be extremely good for his age possibly like rock lee’s prowess when he took out his weights against gaara of the sand or more for the village to allow him to fight in a war like that. Rei could already imagine his progress in taijutsu if the old man somehow taught him it’s like being mentored by a sanin in his mind then maybe standing alongside with his friends in his class in the fourth great ninja war wouldn’t just be a what if.
Rei: why are you not sure if he is dead or alive dad?
Mokichi: He’s presumed dead because after the third shinobi war he was never seen again… we presume he died fighting for our village. He was really a great lost since he is regarded as a legendary taijutsu master and has a reputation of a hero. I wish he is alive so that there’s less problem for the village even if he is old by now he could train an heir of his martial art then another master would appear in the future.
Rei: I see… that’s too bad but Seiho, naruto, and I will train so hard dad that will become strong to protect the people we care about.
Mokichi: that’s good to hear but no pressure son just improve at your own pace.
Rei made a mental note on himself that once he encounters a bottle neck in his taijutsu while old man chen is still alive he would look for him so that he could learn taijutsu from the man himself. Rei doesn’t know when chen will die but rei is sure it’s not anytime soon since naruto, lee, and ten ten still meet him when they were genins. Right now, rei’s concern is improving his physical abilities and refining the techniques he already knows it is very evident that even the simplest C-rank ninjutsus or even D-rank when perform with extreme mastery becomes a trump card like how the third hokage uses his simple ninjutsu yet extremely effective and packing with power. After learning the D rank genjutsu Demonic illusion: death mirage jutsu, rei now plans to dabble on the clone technique going beyond on what’s the norm to include its illusions with his movement like an after image but in reverse instead a realistic feinting motion that happens before he strikes. Rei’s actually thinking of calling it the style of phantom fist but developing this technique would take some time since he hasn’t reach the highest level of chakra control yet; furthermore, his accomplishment in taijutsu is not at the level yet where he should dabble on his own so this will become one of his long-term projects. Rei knows that this technique would be useless against sharingan and byakugan wielders but he has to start somewhere to create his own Identity as a shinobi and since chakra control is the talent he was given he has to make use of it somehow and worry about those people later on. Aside from all this he also plans on learning one-handed hand seals on ninjutsu’s he uses excessively.
Mokichi: Rei what kind of weapon are you used to now?
Rei: I usually just use kunais dad but it wouldn’t hurt to have something a little bit longer.
Mokichi: How about daggers?
Rei: I can use them like kunais right?
Mokichi: they’re practically the same rei, kunais are just sort of exclusive to ninjas.
Rei: Ok dad, why are you asking though?
Mokichi: Remember that trip we had where I had to fight a missing-nin?
Rei: yeah, you took him out like a boss dad!
Mokichi: I took his broadsword since it had better materials than the usual chakra blade you can get here in our village.
Rei just nods at his father statement.
Mokichi: I’m thinking of now of handling it over to a blacksmith along with my chakra blade to make a weapon for you, me, and shizuku since she’ll attend the academy too in two years’ time and I think daggers would suit our combat style.
