An Average Guy In A Shinobi World - Chapter 40

After hearing Seiji’s comment, Rei thought if it is possible for them to have Kakashi as their teacher since he was let go from the anbu after the massacre of the Uchiha clan.

Thinking about Kakashi’s abilities he realizes that the man is extremely advantageous to have as a teacher, because among all the jonins of the hidden leaf he is the closest to Hiruzen’s level of mastery in all fields. Rei thought that it would be impossible for him to invest more time in learning all the five basic nature transformation, since things are about to go down in a few years.

The first “destruction” of the hidden leaf with Orochimaru’s attack is quite easy to survive unless fate is such a bully against him that he’ll have to fight jonin level enemies, which he fears the most so he’ll do crazy training and plans to be prepared.

Kakashi is somehow a role model for Rei right now, since he could excel even with his average chakra. Rei wonders if the man achieved his father’s level in kenjutsu and use of chakra blade, since the man was believed to be at the same level of Sannins. If Kakashi has the training methods for that Rei would gladly learn it and dedicate all his energy to it.

Just when he was thinking about of all the things he could learn from the man; a silver hair was seen looming hesitantly on the glass window of the door to their classroom. When the man went and open it, Rei just felt that all his wishes are somehow coming true which doesn’t happen often.

Kakashi: Huh, Rei? -looking confuse that he saw Rei inside the classroom.

Rei: Big brother are you going to teach us?! – excitement clearly could be seen from his eyes.

Kakashi: Let me check… -seemingly unsure.

After taking out a bunch of paper from his flak jacket, Kakashi let out a little laugh and disappeared faster than anyone could see. Rei couldn’t believe at what just happened but when he thought about Kakashi’s personality he doesn’t appear on time at all, unless it is extremely important.

Frustrated from what just happened, Rei pace back and forth inside the classroom because a golden opportunity just suddenly turned into stone right in front of him. The only good news about this is Kakashi wouldn’t make such a huge lie why he was late, since he could totally tell the other team that he entered a wrong classroom.

Seiji: Thank god, I think I almost cursed us to fail… – releasing a sigh of relief.

Ayaka: What do you mean? -looking confused.

Seiji: That was the guy who keeps failing fresh graduates! -still looking agitated and excited that he dodges such a curse.

Rei: Don’t you know that’s one of the best Jonin in our village. Since you are from the Sarutobi clan, Ayaka you should ask them about Hatake Kakashi. -still looking frustrated.

Ayaka: He is famous? -still clueless.

Seiji: Tsk, and what?! Risk getting sent back to the academy? -looking a bit angry at Rei’s know it all kind of behavior.

Rei: Imagine how strong you’ll become if you were taught by someone who’s at the level even Kage’s would have trouble fighting against with. -Rei answered with a straight face still emotional about what just happened.

Seiji and Ayaka suddenly turned silent, stupefied with what just Rei told them and realize what kind of person who was so close on becoming their teacher. The two then hoped that the person just suddenly went out and had to do something and come back wearing a smile.

Rei is still frustrated about what just happened just thinking about how easy life could have been. Rei would not care about even if there are jonin level opponents appearing out of nowhere because of Kakashi’s presence.

Meanwhile Kakashi was thinking about what just happened as well, bumping into the kid who he sees quite often at random places like tea house, anbu H.Q., and now a classroom. Since Kakashi knows the father of the kid and information regarding his recruitment in the anbu it would have been interesting to train such a talented individual. But what prevented him is for the first time in his life he actually made such a mistake on entering a different room.

No matter, Kakashi now has a real reason on why he is late. A couple of minutes later a man with a long dark-grey hair tied in a ponytail, a scar running down the right side of his mouth that wears a standard shinobi outfit except from it being sleeveless. Walked inside their classroom with a thin katana strapped horizontally to his back.

Rei wasn’t so interested since he didn’t know the person but was quite familiar. On the other hand, Seiji looked quite excited since like the man in front, he carries a sword though his was a long kunai. Meanwhile Ayaka made a smile thinking on the lines of finally the wait is over.

Man: You guys are going to be my genin pupils if you pass my exam. -said the man in a serious tone.

Ayaka: Teacher, what’s your name though? -annoyed that the man didn’t even introduce himself.

Man: My name is Shirakumo Hayama but if you could pass my test, you guys are free to call me teacher Hayama. Now let’s go to the training field and finish this quickly.

The three kids agreed quickly and followed the man to the training ground of his choice, which was extremely foreign to Rei once again since there’s so many training grounds in the hidden leaf village that wasn’t shown in either the anime or the manga.

Upon arriving Hayama quickly explained to them the rules of his exam and that is proving to him if they have what it takes to be a genin of the hidden leaf by fighting him three on one.

Rei: Do we start right away? -he said with a straight face.

Hayama: What do you have in mind? -curious by the kid’s question.

Rei: I want some time to talk with my teammates. -said calmly.

Hayama: Go ahead, I’ll give you five minutes.

The other two genins were confused by Rei’s actions but decided to follow him anway. Rei quickly said that he is proficient in water and lightning basic nature transformation, which quickly stunned the other two since mastering one is already rare enough for a genin.

After that Rei asked what they could do, so that they could plan on how to fight their soon to be teacher. Seiji replied that aside from the basic techniques in the academy he specializes in kenjutsu, while Ayaka replied that shurikenjutsu and Fire release is her strong point.

Rei quickly told them that they would fight with a V-formation with himself and Seiji as vanguards while Ayaka supports them with her range techniques and fire release. But the two said that there’s no way for them to win against a jonin, which made Rei quickly reply that there’s no way for sure but we should at least show what we got. Since fleeing might be the best option against the jonin but right now this test is to find out their proficiency of ninja skills and ability to work in a team.

Hayama: Are you guys done with your little meeting? -he asked still looking serious.

Rei, Seiji, & Ayaka: Yes! -they said full of energy

Hayama: Then let’s start!

Hayama looks forward to what the three genins in front of him could do, since he was specially reminded that one of the genins has skills beyond that of a fresh graduate. Rei didn’t bother to plan for a complicated fight since he knows for sure that the fight is for measuring their current abilities, so he started out by charging his shurikens with lightning chakra and threw it to Hayama with no mercy.

Surprised by Rei’s move since it wasn’t really that of a genin’s standard, Hayama decided to blew it away with his wind release: “Great Breakthrough” quickly dispersing the lightning element charged shurikens. But what happened next wasn’t part of his plans since Ayaka followed Rei’s attack with fire release: “Fire dragon bullet” like a flame thrower it travel through the air and took advantage of the wind release to augment itself.

Hayama quickly went out of the way using his natural speed, since the fire release looked powerful with the aid of his wind release. Upon dodging, Seiji quickly followed Hayama and draw his long kunai and slashed towards him vertically from his right.

Hayama quickly draw his katana and received the attack with it and quickly change its course, he then followed it up with a front kick sending seiji flying backwards towards the two. Surprised by the three’s right off the bat cooperation for the first time since meeting, Hayama made a little smile looking satisfied.

Hayama: That’s a pretty good cooperation attack. -he said with a smile.

Seiji: I didn’t have to get kicked at, though. -looking upset on why he had to be the only one suffering from the first exchange. While Rei and Ayaka laughed at his misfortune.

Ayaka: That’s your fault for being stupid, engaging a jonin in close combat. – She said with a smile teasing her team mate.

Rei: He looks like a muscle brained guy… don’t bother explaining to him he’ll learn more with his body. -Rei said with a smile looking satisfied with his action of adding oil to the fire started by Ayaka.

Seiji: Are you guys really my teammates? -he said with a frown on his face.

Rei dashed towards Hayama while being covered by Ayaka’s barrage of shurikens. Hayama on the other hand easily deflected the projectiles and waited for Rei’s attacks, which didn’t come as he expected since Rei jumped up and used water release “raging waves” with a density not befitting that of a normal water that made its color looked dark blue.

Hayama didn’t let himself be hit easily and used his mastery of kenjutsu to cut the raging waves. Hayama had to exert a strength beyond his usual when he dealt with Rei’s raging waves since it looked like the ninjutsu was used by someone of a chunin or specialized jonin that mastered water release.

Seeing the water spread out Rei quickly took his chance and used lightning release: “Lightning Bullet” tearing through the air and was about to make contact with the water. Hayama didn’t let Rei’s plan come into fruition, which he countered by making a wind wall around himself with wind release: “wind wall” to prevent the electricity to hit him and blow away the water surrounding him.

Seeing this as a chance, Ayaka again use her fire release: “fire dragon bullet”. Not wanting to be charred to death, Hayama used “body replacement technique” but what come afterwards was a huge shuriken thrown by Seiji, which he deflected with his katana using his brute strength.

The fight continued to go on for quite some time tiring the three genins out, Rei quickly understand the difference between him and a jonin. Master Chen was right in saying that he could defeat chunins for sure and survive a fight against specialize jonins unless they specialized in combat like taijutsu, bukijutsu, or Ninjutsu.

A jonin’s ability is an eye opener for Rei, though it is true that he didn’t use all he has yet, but even if he did use them all at most he could only flee from a jonin or he could risk augmenting his physical abilities through ninjutsu.

Rei has been confident lately because of the improvements of his techniques, what he realizes now though is that techniques would be useless if they aren’t as overwhelming as they are supposed to be. Rei decided to risk it one last time and used his Genjutsu: “Demonic Illusion: death from multiple angles” and followed it up with “body flicker” to close the distance.

Hayama was surprised that aside from ninjutsu, Rei could actually use genjutsu like this. Since the situation was quite dire Hayama dispersed the illusion by violently moving his chakra around his body and blocked the kunai slashing towards him with his katana. With the two genins already exhausted, Hayama delivered the final nail by clocking Rei with a kick like what he did to Seiji concluding the fight.

Hayama: I think this is already enough. -he said looking at the three like he was about to fail them.

Seiji: Did we pass? -asked while breathing heavily trying to catch his breath.

The other two looked at Hayama concerned about the result of this so-called trial.

Hayama: Hmmnnn… you guys pass barely, we’ll meet each other tomorrow in front of the academy then to take up D-level missions. -Hayama said with a little tinge of happiness.

The three shouted full of glee with smiles on their faces.

If he actually have Kakashi as his teacher… things would be predictable like learning chidori developing it with kakashi to learn purple electricity earlier. And so and so… besides I could exploit more from a jonin who is not well introduced. hahaha!
