An Average Guy In A Shinobi World - Chapter 43
The group of four ninjas walk towards their supposed client. Following their jonin leader the genins are quite excited on this mission, aside from Rei. Rei is quite nervous on who he will meet, he just hopes that the person only brings him the good news.
Upon meeting their client Rei is quite surprised to see one of the servants of his uncle’s estate, so he asked him secretly on what’s the state in Yashina village. The servant was tight lip upon their meeting and didn’t inform Rei of anything that is important, which suddenly pissed him off since he is a part of the family.
Rei: Don’t you know who I am? -he said with an irritated tone.
Servant: Sir, I know you are a trained shinobi of the hidden leaf but that is not enough learn things about our family.
Rei: Tsk, never mind then… I won’t bother with you.
It is a wonder that a servant of his uncle’s family couldn’t even recognize him, since their amber eyes are very rare. The man didn’t even bother to think about the young ninjas possible connection to their clan. On the other hand, Rei’s lack of introduction could also be blame but he didn’t want to risk the mission getting canceled once his team members know about his relation to the family.
Since his relation towards the mission might affect Rei’s decision in the future and might want to stay in the village to settle more issues before coming back to the hidden leaf. Rei thought about the servant’s attitude towards him and concluded that the possibility of the mission being higher ranked than it is supposed to be is high, since the servant is being so tight lipped about the situation in Yashina village. If that happens the mission would become a B-rank or above leaving them unable to take it as a genin, and the mission could also be canceled leaving his uncle hanging out to dry.
Ayaka: Why were you asking our client about Yashina village so much? -looking curious at Rei’s actions.
Rei: Information gathering, so we’ll have better knowledge of things and plan ahead.
Hayama: You two should try to learn more from Rei. Information is very important no matter what the circumstances, it could be the deciding factor in life or death situation.
The team then went on their way towards Yashina village, along the way Seiji is complaining about how slow their pace was. Since the team could’ve stored all the weapons on scrolls and dashed their way through the roads and finish the mission rapidly.
But Hayma replied to him that their client is a civilian who couldn’t possibly keep up with their speed, Rei further added that dashing through blindly with their current team composition might lead to problems since enemies might pop out of nowhere. Seiji refuted that they could fight those guys easily, which Rei replied with telling his first encounter with a bandit group when he was young.
Ayaka: Are you being serious?! at that time you were just four!
Seiji: Stop lying Rei!
Rei: Does it look like I’m lying?
Ayaka: Definitely!
Rei: Teacher Hayama has my file… although that wasn’t counted as a mission, I was five years old when I first started using C-rank ninjutsu.
Ayaka: That isn’t enough to prove that story.
Rei: I’m telling you my father trained me so hard…
Hayama: Well… Rei’s father is a jonin of the village.
Seiji: Damn it, so that’s why you are so good!?
Ayaka: tsk, if having a jonin father solves everything then I should be even stronger… I’m from a ninja clan, I grew up surrounded by experts.
Halfway through their journey towards Yashina village, Rei notice their client looking so paranoid and anxious. Rei didn’t talk about it with the other genins, but tried to inform their team leader that there’s really something wrong with the mission. Which their team leader responded to, that they could only put their guards up since it is very likely that trouble would come sooner.
Unaware of the impending danger coming towards them, Seiji still has the time to clown around them which was quite refreshing since it was able to hide the tension around Hayama and Rei. When they were setting up camp, Rei told everyone that he is going to go out hunting, which was an excuse to set up trap wires and explosive tags so that they’ll be aware when someone approach their camp. Time quickly passed by the group is now having dinner at their camp site with a roasted boar that was hunted by Rei.
Seiji: This is great! -he said while munching on the roasted boar.
Ayaka: Didn’t know you could cook…
Rei: I had to learn it, since I’ll be camping every now and then as a ninja.
Hayama: Most of the time we just eat dried rations.
Client/Servant: Thank you for the meal.
Rei is already thinking about how many enemies his traps are going to take out. Since from his past experience and plot troubles he read throughout his previous life, camping time is always that window time that villains exploit to attack their enemies.
A few moments later explosions in the forest nearby their camp was heard, which gave Rei a huge smile. Though it looked psychotic to others, it is just his natural reaction since his enemies are being weed out one by one with his traps. Sound of screams and desolate cries were heard along with explosions.
Seiji: That… do you guys hear those?
Rei: No… maybe you are hearing ghost. -Rei said with straight face.
Ayaka: Stop that Rei! -she said looking a bit frighten.
Hayama: I just hope your traps didn’t kill innocents, Rei. -he said with a tone of concern.
Rei: Why would they be on the forest walking their way towards us in the middle of the night?
Hayama: Things could happen…
While they are talking a burly man with a battle axe came out of the forest.
Man: Who the fuck set all those traps! -he shouted furiously.
Rei: Him! -he said while pointing towards Seiji.
Man: Bastard! I’ll kill you for killing my comrades. -he said full of rage.
Seiji: Oy, I didn’t do that… come on Rei. -looking helpless at Rei’s action.
The man rushed Seiji swinging his axed while roaring like a beast. Rei didn’t plan to help Seiji at all, since this could become his first step towards becoming a ninja. Experiencing killing intent while fighting should be natural and killing their opponents should also come as a simple thing.
Seiji took out his long kunai and started his fight with the roaring man, his movements was incredibly stiff at first not looking natural that cause him to be almost killed a couple of times. If not for Rei and Ayaka’s meddling of throwing shuriken every now and then, Seiji would have lost his life by now.
Hayama on the other hand has been looking around, since it looked like a huge number of people are coming towards their way despite the fact that they should’ve been whittled down by Rei’s traps.
After a few exchange Seiji’s movement finally got better, but he still wasn’t able to dispose of the man heartlessly like a trained ninja should. It is quite understandable though since Seiji hasn’t had his first kill yet, aside from that no twelve-year-old kid would be able to do it normally. Seiji made a downward slashed towards the man, which cut off the man’s right arm resulting to a huge wailing.
Seiji: Damn… -feeling a little bit nauseous from the feeling of cutting a human flesh.
Ayaka suddenly release a barrage of shurikens hitting the man’s leg preventing him from escaping.
Ayaka: Finish the job properly, Seiji. -she said looking serious.
Rei: oh, so have you killed someone before Ayaka?
Ayaka: Nope, but in a ninja clan they train you to be able to handle this kind of situation.
Seiji: Ninja clan this… tsk and what a son of a jonin, are you guys even human? -he said feeling frustrated from his teammate reactions.
Rei: You don’t have to feel frustrated, besides you are our teammate your strength is our strength as well. So, will help you and train with you.
Hayama: Rei’s right, Seiji. If you feel like your teammates are somehow strong that’s because they are lucky with their family. But you could make up for it now that you have them as teammates and me as your teacher. You’ll get strong in no time.
Seiji: ok, I’m sorry about my behavior.
Hayama: We might need to get some information from this man.
Rei: Torture?
Hayama: I’m afraid we have no choice, it is better for you kids not to see this.
Hayama took the man inside the forest which lead to screams that was pleading for mercy. Later on, when their jonin teacher came back, he explained that the group was there to hunt down the man who will be returning to Yashina village along with weapons.
The situation in Yashina village is quite terrible, although the place is only two days away from the hidden leaf a group of bandits still took their chance to take control of it from the shadows. The villainous group threaten the village with their numbers along with elite soldiers taking control of the businesses and imposing taxes that couldn’t be payed normally.
Back against the walls Rei’s uncle is now trying to resist and even tried to call for help in the hidden leaf. Though things should’ve gone smoother with their money that could’ve paid for jonins to settle the issue it wasn’t just possible, since the man used his money to save the people who couldn’t pay for their taxes and such.
Rei wonders why this uncle of his let things got this far and didn’t send a message right away, but since his father learned of the situation already hope is not lost.
Hayama: This mission is definitely not C-rank…
Seiji: What do we do?
Ayaka: We are already half-way there and abandoning this mission would tarnish are village’s name.
Hayama: We can only continue with caution…
Client: I swear once the issue is over my master would pay the hidden leaf a handsome reward.
Rei: And who’s this master?
Client: A successful merchant by the name of Hatano Keiji.
Hayama: I heard of the name… well if this mission is successful, we will really get paid. But meanwhile We’ve got to send a letter to the hidden leaf for reinforcement.
Rei: Tsk, don’t worry about the money my mother’s maiden name is Hatano Fuyuki and I’m the nephew of the client’s master.
The servant quickly kneeled down towards Rei.
Servant/client: I’m sorry for not recognizing young master Rei.
Sounds of footsteps were heard coming from the forest, Rei’s traps were now all used up since he counted all the explosions that happened which was equal to number of traps he set.
Now surrounded with people who’s looking to kill them and armed with weapons some they don’t even recognize. Rei’s group took out their weapons and readied themselves for a battle to death. The three genins surrounded their client to protect him. Meanwhile their jonin teacher Hayama unleashed a B-rank technique “wind release: Vacuum Wave” a wave of wind slashed through his targets disabling or killing a number of people surrounding them.
The armed group didn’t just let themselves become easy target a few launched their weapons towards the genins, but Rei is not having it and quickly formed hand-seals and used “water release: water formation wall”. The technique pulled water from underground and formed a wall of water shielding them from the weapons flying towards them.
Enrage by the actions of the group towards his mother’s hometown, Rei pulled out more water from underground then quickly used “water release: Water dragon bullet” hitting countless number of opponents and giving them internal injuries. The two genins were shocked by the sudden outburst of might performed by their teammate, Hayama on the other hand look at this student of his like it was to be expected.
On the other hand, Rei didn’t just let his combo end there, he followed it up with “lightning release: lightning bullet” and injecting more chakra towards it which resulted to electrocuting the people who was in contact with water and killing some in the process. With all the techniques he suddenly used Rei is now quite a bit out of breath feeling a little bit exhausted. But it wasn’t exhaustion of chakra, rather it was mental exhaustion since he hasn’t drawn out water from underground of this size.
Seiji: Damn, Rei! you don’t look like a genin at all…
Rei: talk later.
Ayaka: tsk, calm down Rei! this concerns your family so you must not be blinded by rage.
Rei: Let’s talk about it later, I rather we survive this first.
I was planning to release a long chapter but it would take much longer so… I ended up with this. Work life is not cooperating with me, giving me a lot of things to do. But I can’t really complain since that’s what I’m getting payed for. I just hope I get promoted to a position that doesn’t involve so much work… but well that’s just impossible. after this chapter it will be quite a bit of fighting so… please be patient. sorry for releasing so late.
