An Unexpected Proposal - Chapter 15
“Well, all you want from me is death.”
Cabellenus’s face was visibly distorted. He stared at Alicia as if he was glaring at her, but eventually brushed his hair up roughly.
Everything was perfect, but she was the only one who was not.
“…… Do you really want nothing from me other than death?”
The voice that flowed through the tightly clenched teeth showed signs of nervousness.
“You don’t have to worry about it. I’m really okay.”
But what returned was just an answer without any desire.
“…… I’d rather you be the temptress that everyone’s talking about.”
Cabellenus muttered powerlessly, leaning on his forehead.
If Alicia had really been the wicked woman that people spoke of, he would not have been so nervous.
If she was one to abandon her parents and siblings because of the blindness of money and power, he would have been able to hold onto her.
But Alicia was not that kind of person.
She had nothing, nothing she wanted.
‘I didn’t spare your life from the start to…… No, no.’
The assumption of killing Alicia was no longer possible.
Although it was unpleasant that his daily life was a mess, Cabellenus did not regret keeping Alicia alive.
Cabellenus looked at the faded grey eyes and laughed in vain.
In fact, he already knew.
It was not a matter of making clothes to fit Alicia’s body.
She always looked stiff and awkward when she was dressed up and adorned with a necklace, earrings, and rings, even if it suited her.
Even though it was hers, it did not seem very comfortable.
She always looked nervous and anxious, as if she had stolen someone else’s clothes.
No matter how little desire one had, if you kept seeing and having good things, you may form a desire, but Alicia was different.
She knew how to restrain herself excessively.
He did not like that.
People who had nothing could leave at any moment.
*Knock, knock.*
The sudden sound of knocking awakened Cabellenus from his thoughts.
He glanced at the door with a slight frown.
“May I come inside, My Lord?”
“Come in.”
“I brought the list you requested.”
Gazeff walked straight toward Cabellenus without even looking at Alicia.
The sight of the two dining together was familiar to Gazeff.
“What happened to the wagon from Schwarhan?”
“If there are no problems, it should be able to arrive by tomorrow.”
“Fortunately, it’s not as late as expected.”
Cabellenus immediately rose from his seat after checking the documents he had received from Gazeff.
As he was about to leave, he turned back and looked at Alicia.
“What are you doing? Why aren’t you following?”
Alicia thought she would be able to leave, but that was not the case.
She carefully rose from the chair.
And, with just three steps…
She kept her distance, neither far nor close, and followed Cabellenus.
“There are more poor people than I thought. We need to transport the goods one more time, so prepare the wagons as soon as possible and send it back. Of course, don’t forget to check the items and lists in the wagon properly.”
“I’ll proceed right away.”
“When distributing the goods, it shouldn’t be given to them for nothing. Whether it’s big or small, they need to pay for it.”
“Of course.”
It was not intentional, but as Alicia followed Cabellenus, she naturally ended up listening to the conversation between the two.
However, there was no time for Alicia to intervene in the conversation, so in the end, she only looked at the surrounding landscape rather than listen to it.
Neinstein’s climate was so warm that flowers bloomed all year round in the courtyard, so it was nice to just take a stroll.
“Alicia Neinstein.”
When Alicia’s steps slowed down as she was lost in the scenery, and the distance between them increased, Cabellenus called out her name.
His voice was dull and barely audible, but it was strangely addictive, so she deliberately slowed her steps from time to time.
Cabellenus disapproved that Alicia had nothing she wanted, but she just did not need it.
Alicia liked to walk along Cabellenus’s steps.
For Cabellenus, it was just a time to travel, but for Alicia, it had a different meaning.
Because at times like this, she could look at him to her heart’s content and no one would blame her.
It was the only good time to admire his broad back, follow his steps, and listen to the names he often called.
Of course, the man she was following was unaware of that fact.
