An Unexpected Proposal - Chapter 22
TL: Kay (kkrivulet)
“I’ve been deliberately scratching the princess’s nerves, but you haven’t attacked me.”
[T/N: To ‘get/scratch on someone’s nerve’ means to try to aggravate and annoy someone.]
If the strength had really returned, Alicia would definitely have not left her alone.
As if she had predicted victory, the corner of Velita’s lips curled up.
Alicia clutched the dagger.
“You’ve been fooling me around, mongrel princess?”
“If you want to die, I’ll kill you right away.”
“Don’t be pretentious. You’re like a herbivore that’s about to be eaten. I’m not afraid of your threats.”
Velita curled her lips and moved closer and closer towards Alicia.
Alicia nervously bit her lips.
She wanted to pretend to be calm, but the cold sweat on her back was chilling.
“It would have been nice if you had found the strength, but it’s really a pity that you didn’t.”
“…….”
“I don’t want to make a big fuss either, but unfortunately, you know too much. If you ever tell the devil about the royalty, it’ll bring trouble.”
“Are you going to kill me?”
“It’s a pity to kill a Neinstein royalty with my own hands, but what can I do? It’s because you’re foolish. I have no choice but to deal with it so that not anyone can become a royal.”
“Are you confident you can handle the aftermath of my death?”
As a slave, she was the property of Cabellenus.
Touching her would be considered a challenge to Cabellenus.
“Don’t worry. I’ll take care of the princess’s body well. I’ll bury you with the maid who left earlier so that you won’t feel lonely.”
Of course, the devil might think that the princess ran away without knowing that she was dead.
Velita took the extra dagger out from her chest without hesitation.
Alicia, clenching her teeth, turned away from Velita and ran towards the door.
However, the defiance did not last very long.
*Thud!*
Not long after running away, her body tilted forward with a dull sound.
As she fell, her body hit the floor with throbbing dull pain, but there was no sign of pain.
Velita’s hand, which was pressing Alica’s neck from behind, tightened around her throat.
“It’s a wonder that you don’t even groan at this moment. As I always thought, the princess is very strong. Well, I mean, you did accuse His Majesty and saved your own life from the hands of that demon, right?”
“…….”
Veilta’s eyes were filled with madness.
The opportunity she had been looking forward to had arrived, so she was unable to stifle the smile that continued to grow.
When Veilta found out that Alicia had accused the king and had taken over the seat of Grand Duke Schwarhan’s woman, her blood boiled.
The moment she heard that Alicia was enjoying things that were beyond her means, her anger grew on the subject of the sinner who failed to protect Neinstein. Veilta felt like she was going crazy.
But he did not kill her.
Veilta thought that Alica’s strength had returned and thought it would be helpful since Alicia was closest to Cabellenus.
[T/N: She’s saying that she thought Alicia’s strength would help in the mission of assassinating Cabellenus.]
That’s why she was able to endure it again.
But it was her misjudgment.
Alicia, who held Elena’s life and shook it and did not help regain their strength, did not know of gratitude.
It was not the lineage of a noble Neinstein but the blood of a filthy barbarian.
There was no reason to keep her alive anymore.
“They say that the devil is crazy about the princess, but after this, I’m suddenly curious about his reaction. If the princess disappears, will he get angry? Or, will he be all right?”
“…….”
“Honestly, I hope he suffers. But that’s a vain hope. No matter how well you dress, the princess is just a dirty mongrel, aren’t you? You’re unattractive and shabby, but that’s a vain topic.”
“…….”
“It’s just entertainment. It’s easy to be attracted to unique things. Just like your case.”
Velita’s fingers relaxed and grabbed a handful of Alicia’s hair.
If at least this hair was blond, it would have not been so annoying.
Apart from Neinstein’s noble bloodline in her, her red hair and grey eyes all resembled that woman.
That woman had caused her master, who was the most noble and beautiful, to fall into hell.
Velita still could not forget the queen who cried as she saw her husband holding that woman.
“The princess is still lucky. You can meet death with my own hands, not the hands of a dirty imperial.”
[T/N: Velitia is referring to Cabellenus as the ‘dirty imperial’.]
Velita whispered tenderly and strengthened her hand that held Alicia’s neck.
When she thought of the queen, she wanted to let Alicia taste more pain before death, but she did not have much time.
It was time to get rid of this ill-fated relationship.
“Goodbye, mongrel princess.”
Velita’s sword turned upward without hesitation.
She wasn’t able to finish off that woman with her own hands. But the fact that she could now finish off the daughter instead made her excited.
It was then.
*Bang.*
The door, which had been firmly closed, flew open.
A cold wind then blew through the open door.
The smell flowing through the wind was fiercely fishy.
“You’re in trouble, in many ways.”
A low voice rang in the room.
Alicia raised her head, but her view was hazy due to the lack of air.
She could not see the face properly, but she recognised it at a glance.
A man with such eyes was never common.
“W-why are you here…….”
Velita stuttered.
She had checked all of Cabellenus’s schedule, and yet he broke in.
It was wrong for him to be here now.
‘No, what’s wrong?’
A smile spread around Velita’s mouth.
The devil that she wanted to kill so badly had appeared before her.
It was a little different from the plan, but there was nothing unfortunate about it.
Velita rose from her seat, slamming Alicia down roughly.
No, it was more accurate to say she tried to get up.
*Thud.*
Velita’s body failed to stand up and rolled across the floor.
At some point, Cabellenus had a sword in his hand.
For him, the sword was the easiest way to solve a problem.
“It’s a shame that you lost the chance to die.”
An unwavering straight gaze pierced Alicia.
On the surface, the man appeared to be composed. However, his eyes which could be seen from under his long eyelashes were not much different from those of a sharp beast.
He was angry.
Realising that fact, Alicia looked up at him blankly.
It was strange.
It was definitely okay until now, but when she saw the man’s face, her whole body was throbbing.
The pain she had forgotten was unbearable, so tears shed without her knowledge.
“It’s useless to cry. No matter what, I’ll never let you die.”
Cabellenus, who approached Alicia, naturally hugged her.
He did not even seem to care if the blood ruined his clothes.
That fact irritated Alicia.
She had promised herself not to be greedy, but she couldn’t.
“……I’m not disappointed.”
Her body, which suddenly lost all the tension, did not listen to her properly.
Nevertheless, Alicia reached out a trembling hand and hung it around Cabellenus’s neck.
“Don’t move. It’s not good if the wound breaks after moving for no reason.”
“……I don’t want to die.”
“…….”
“I want to live. Really, I don’t want to die.”
Even though Alicia was aware that Cabellenus was struggling to respond, she pretended not to know.
Instead, she kept muttering it over and over again as she buried her face into the nape of Cabellenus’s neck.
