Anakdatu - Chapter 11:Never ever trust janitors, I tell you, DON’T
School day, yay! Who will never ever like school? Seeing other students, being entrapped in a huge institution wherein they make the rules, they make us follow and brainwashes us to be the best we can ever be someday, oh how synonymous with the word “prison”. I love it!
As I walked the alleyway from The Hut junior, and passed a sidewalk, and then the road and crossed it, then I reached the institution, the prison or school, whatever you would like to call this building, but for me, I don’t like the vibes that this school gives me.
I stood there in front of the school, observing it from the outside. The school is kind of huge to be called a school honestly, it is huge, like the schools in Manila wherein it should not be called as school but it is supposed to be called as Universities but, what not, we will see.
It is a huge off-white building, well, a set of buildings in a square shaped are (this information is from Eve anyway), and on the front of the building it says “Batangas University”, oh yeah, thank you for reminding me Captain Obvious, what do you call a University in Batangas? But yeah, it is kinda huge with a large gate upfront.
I approached the gate and it looks like a riot, there are so much people entering the gate, so much for a first day of class.
As I am going with the flow of the people passing through the gate, suddenly, there was this girl who brushed upon my arms and we both felt an electric shock that surged through our bodies.
“OUCH!” We both exclaimed in the same time.
I just heard her voice but I cannot find her due to this flow of people, who is she? What the hell just happened? Is that some kind of freshman prank?
After some minutes of pushing and elbowing through the flow, finally, I got in and I breathed for awhile because indeed, that entry point, that is a struggle.
As I was catching up air, there was this security guard who went close to me and gave me an envelope and went away as soon as he gave me the envelope.
I observed the envelope, it has a yellowish kind of shade color of an envelope and as I turned it around, there I saw the Baybayin symbols of the Anakdatu.
I opened it up and there was an ID inside and also a letter from Macabulos saying that he was sorry that he forgot about giving me my ID for school. And then I stifled a laugh, my last desperate laugh in this year and put on my ID and I also put the envelope inside my bag.
Now, it is indeed a new day.

I found a line that goes to a person holding a signboard written “FREE TOUR”. I don’t know but it looks like it is some kind of trap again for freshman because it looks kind of informal, and an electric shock is enough for an entry, but hey, I am an Anakdatu, I am born to all kinds of risks, bombardment of houses, shrapnel over my body, a water filling room, what could go wrong? If things go wrong, I’ll just bust out my kung-fu moves and hiyah! So I followed the line.
Spoiler: The tour isn’t a death trap. We went all around the campus and it is so N-I-C-E. I saw all the classrooms, it is so nice with their tables and chairs wherein you can recline, hi tech smart boards, and high speed wifi! Oh when will I ever wake up in this very glorious dream? I’ve got The Hut and also The Hut jr, and now I’ve got this school, awesome. They are complete with all the facilities, basketball, chess, baseball, soccer, everything you can name! They’ve got also lounges wherein you can chill and rest your class sore brains and the cafeteria, oh my, it is almost like The Hut! Almost.
While I was walking around the campus for the tour, there were these guys who looked like Janitors staring at me like psychos, standing by the hallway near the cafeteria. Eve told me they aren’t found in the school’s database and that I should stay away from them. I just continued walking and I looked back and they are gone. What in the world, an electric shock and now, weird Janitors.
I tried shaking myself off as I walked until there was a small orientation and until the tour finished, I got back to the point where I started. I am starting to get a weird feeling, my spider-sense is tingling.
I walked now where the bulletin boards are located to check for my schedule and rooms and also what will be my fate in the mighty Batangas University.
As I checked my schedule, which says my classes tomorrow and I got to take lots of subjects, there was this woman who went near to me, she looked like a mom, a stereotypical mom wearing a stereotype brown blouse and jeans and some flip flops.
“Hey there, looking for something? I was kind of looking for something.” She asked me looking around her shoulders.
“Uh no ma’am, geez, I think it is getting late, I should better go.” I told her, as I trudged away from the boards because I’ve experienced too much weird things for a day.
“Take care Ramil, my grandson.” She said as I was walking away.
“Wait, wha-” As I looked back and once again, the lady just disappeared.
I gritted my teeth because of anger for all these weird things that is happening here in this Campus and I walked around the campus once again so that I can clear my mind.
************************************************************************************************
It is around 1 pm when I really got frustrated for all these things that happened so then I went to the comfort room and kicked the wall again and again for, well, comfort.
“Datu Puti, please calm down, I understand this happenings is getting to your nerves but remember, Buddha once said an angry man will not attain Nirvana.” Eve tried to comfort me with wrong quoatations.
“He didn’t said that,” as I kicked the wall once again “Just why? Why make my mission more complicated?” I complained.
As I said the last word, 6 burly men went inside the comfort room, locked the door and made a horizontal line in front of me. Oh wait, you are probably imagining, how the hell can 6 burly men fit on a comfort room in one line? Oh yeah, Batangas University’s comfort rooms are so huge that you can even play volleyball inside.
As they stood straight, their eyes all looking straight at me, I noticed that they all do look the same, and finally, I noticed these are the guys that was on the hallway awhile ago.
“Oh hey,” I tried standing straight and making myself decent, “uhm you are janitors right? So how can I help you on things? Am I disturbing you or such?” I asked them with confidence.
“DATU PUTI,” they said in unison with a very booming voice, “WE HAVE AWAITED FOR YOU IN EONS FOR THE BLOOD YOU HAVE IS OF A SPECIAL KIND, A RARE ONE THAT NO ONE HAD EVER HARNESSED MORE THAN YOU.”
I was dumbfounded, “Uh honestly, my blood type is O positive but it is not some kind of special blood, I had a cut once and I tasted it and it tastes like rust-”
And they all charged.
As I have been trained, I got my umbrella in the side pocket of my bag, pressed the sword button on my umbrella (which Macabulos didn’t introduced to me, maybe because I am kinda late awhile ago.) and I watched the umbrella morphed into a Kampilan, my fave melee weapon! And now, I am holding it with fervor as this seemed to strike fear to those guys.
One of the janitors said “The weapon of the Sun!” in which I didn’t get but yeah, weird Janitors.
Hold on, before I continue this fight scene, let’s pause in a mid-battle narrative, honestly, this things that happened to me this morning is weird, electric shock from a brush in a shoulder, these janitors who seemed to rehearsed what will they say to me in unison and also for sure, they did rehearsed on how will they kill me and the lady in the boards. I was starting to wonder that this undercover mission isn’t just some easy task like protecting Henry Sy or something, their vocabulary such as “Weapon of the sun”, and the “You’re welcome” weird subconscious speech while we were on the way here yesterday, it is really weird. I think I’m really going to love this mission!
Now, back to the scene, lights, camera, action!
Stupidly, all of them charged at me, maybe forgetting that I was holding a sword on my hand. And then chaos wreak its havoc.
