(Leon POV)

We’re at the duel arena where Jaune is sparring against Cardin Winchester. Jaune is losing badly. It’s obvious that Jaune has no proper training before so his stance and fighting style is very sloppy. Once Jaune is down, Cardin was about to smash Jaune’s head with his mace but Ms. Glynda stop the match. She then explains about the difference here and the tournament. She then told us about that Vytal festival where students from other kingdom will compete with one another. I’ll chat with Ozpin about my participation in this festival. I contacted Ozpin through the scroll ask him about the tournament.

Ozpin: “You want to participate in the tournament?”

Leon: “Yeah. Isn’t it sure win if I attend this tournament?”

Ozpin: “Hmm. I’ll see what I can do.”

I then turn off my scroll and help Jaune get up.

Leon: “Wanna go grab some lunch?”

Neo and Jaune nod and we went to the cafeteria with everyone. While eating, Nora talks about her dream with dramatization and Ren, like always, told truthfully about what truly happened.

Everyone was concerned about Jaune and he just told everyone that he’s ok.

Leon: “Hey Phyrra.”

Phyrra: “Yes Leon?”

Leon: “Why don’t you train Jaune?”

I look at Jaune.

Leon: “We saw what happened back there and you need training Jaune. Phyrra can help you improve.”

Ruby: “Why don’t you train him, Leon?”

I put my hand on my chin and contemplate.

Leon: “That’s not a bad idea. Me and Phyrra can help him train.”

Jaune’s eyes sparkle and then nod. He then happily ate his food. Then I heard someone yelling in pain and I saw Cardin pulling Velvet Scarlatina’s ear. Everyone, including me, saw this and everyone is pissed. I got up and walk towards Cardin and grab his wrist hard.

Leon: “What are you doing?”

I grab his wrist hard and he grunted and let go Velvet’s ear. Everyone stop talking and stare at me and Cardin. His goons tries to retaliate but I look at them and use intimidation at them. They got scared and backed off. I squeeze his wrist and I can hear the armor on his wrist breaking.

Cardin: “LET GO!”

Cardin stands up and tries to punch me with his right arm but I grab his right wrist and squeeze it as well.

Cardin: “NGH!”

Grabbing his both wrist and force him to kneel down.

Leon: “Now listen here you sh*t.”

I talk not too loudly but everyone can hear me speak.

Leon: “Us and the faunus are not so different. The only difference is that they have animal traits. I think Velvet’s ears are very beautiful. In fact, every faunus animal traits are amazing. They can hear better than humans, see better and they have capabilities that us humans don’t have. I’m not saying their above us. I’m saying we must treat them equally. I don’t know what happened why you have some prejudice against the faunus but you don’t have the right to bully them or anyone on that matter. Then my question is, what makes you think that you’re better than anyone else.”

I squeeze his wrists again to make my point clear. He scream in agony and let him go. I look at everyone in the cafeteria.

Leon: “We are huntsmen and huntresses. Our duty is to uphold peace for our world and slay creatures of Grimm but how can we call ourselves huntsmen and huntresses that we can’t even protect our brethren from ourselves?”

I look at everyone and some put their head down in shame.

Leon: “Like I said, faunus are people like us but has animal traits and has better senses. We must treat them like everyone else.”

I look at Cardin on the ground.

Leon: “Not belittle them.”

Cardin glares at me. I glare him back with intimidation. He paled and crawls away.

Velvet: “Th.ank you.”

I look behind me and I saw Velvet was nervous but said thanks. I pat her on the head and Velvet twitched and then calms down.

Leon: “You’re welcome.”

I said goodbye to her. I didn’t notice that Velvet touch her head and look my back. She blush and then whisper something.

Velvet: “My ears are beautiful?”

Pink blush starts to form on her face cheek. I went back to my seat.

Nora: “That was amazing.”

Nora then jumps happily while Ren and Blake looks at me and smiles. Neo kiss my face cheek and the girls giggled.

Weiss: “That was very inspirational.”

Yang: “Dude, you’re like a hero back there. If I was there, I broke Cardin’s every limb.”

Phyrra: “Be careful Leon. Based on Cardin’s personality, I’m sure he’ll try think of something will get you back.”

Leon: “Well he can try. I mean, he’s not much worse than a Nevermore. Right?”

Phyrra: “True.”

I look at Jaune and he looks at me with stars in his eyes.

Leon: “Be ready on you training later. You’re gonna need it.”

Jaune got confused when I said that but he just nod. Oh, ignorance is a bliss sometimes.

We’re in our next class and our teacher, Professor Bartholomew Oobleck teaches us about the history of Faunus War. He’s zooms in and out but I can understand his lessons while he zooms in and out. Then Professor Oobleck ask everyone that who among us has any experience about faunus discrimination. Velvet shyly raise her hand and some raise their hands as well. Jaune on the other hand was sleeping.

Oobleck: “Dreadful, simply dreadful. Remember everyone, this kind of acts breeds’ violence.”

He then use the white fang as preference.

Oobleck: “Can anyone tell me what the turning point of the 3rd year war is?”

Weiss: “The battle of Fort Castle.”

Oobleck: “Precisely and who can tell me the advantage of Faunus had over General Lagune forces.”

Cardin throws a paper at Jaune and Jaune woke up from his slumber. Professor Oobleck ask Jaune but nothing seems to pop up on his head. Phyrra tries to help but Jaune didn’t get the answer.

Jaune: “Binoculars?”

Everyone laughs, especially Cardin.

Oobleck ask Cardin the answer.

Cardin: “Well, I know it’s a lot easier to train an animal than soldier.”

Leon: “So you admit you’re dumber than an animal. At least an animal has a brain unlike you.”

Everyone laughs at my comment and Cardin glares at me but I just smile at him and shrug like it was nothing.

Then I look at Professor Oobleck.

Leon: “It’s night vision sir.”

Oobleck: “Why is it so?”

Then Phyrra and Blake cuts in.

Phyrra: “Most Faunus has better eyesight during night or in the dark.”

Blake: “General Lagune was inexperience and makes a mistake trying to ambush the faunus in their sleep. The general captured and the massive army didn’t held a chance. Perhaps if he pay attention in his class, he wouldn’t remember as such a failure.”

Cardin grunted and stands up clenching his fist. But Professor Oobleck told him to sit down. Jaune laughs but Professor Oobleck told him and Cardin to see Professor Oobleck after class. Me and Phyrra were waiting for Jaune to come out and when he come out, Cardin push him and Jaune falls down. Cardin snickers but I trip him while he wasn’t looking. He face planted on the floor and broke his nose. He got angry and tries to punch me but I use intimidation to scare him. He stops and just glares at me, with some fear in his eyes, and walks away.

Phyrra help Jaune up and he pat his clothes to clean himself.

Leon: “Jaune, it’s training time.”
