Another War - 20 Done for the Day
The moment Ranger attack head on the two giant golem-like aswang, Yule was gripping tightly on his spear. Not because he needed to exert more magical reserves, but he was hoping that this plan would work.
When he asked Ranger about the status of his remaining reserves, he also asked him what kind of attack he could pull off with those reserves. He just replied to him vaguely that he could activate his ace skill but it has a time restriction, so he needed those monsters to be still as stone for a few moments which gave Yule the idea of using the magic attacks from his and Jin-Yoo’s.
Yule relayed to all three the order of attack he’d planned for the total annihilation of those giant aswang, and it relied heavily on Ranger.
If this plan didn’t work, they need to pray thoroughly to their gods to give them enough juice to run as fast as they need to away from their hunters.
With luck on their side, they don’t need to that anymore.
Ranger successfully sliced the two giant aswang into half which made Yule’s mouth hanging open, amazed by the exceptional skill that his classmate pulled off.
The remaining parts of the aswang fell off heavily on the ground, creating a slight tremor on their location.
“O-M-G!” Jin-Yoo exclaimed in the communication line. “We just defeated a level 3 aswang! Not just one, but two!” And she screamed in joy at the same in relief that the plan had worked.
Yule was about to tell Jin-Yoo to tone down her deafening scream when he heard an electric hum from where the bodies of the aswang fell. He turned his head in that direction and saw the electric bird/Ranger’s body glowed brightly which Yule quickly shield his eyes with his hand. The glowing subsided and what had remained was the hovering human form of Ranger. His yellow sword blades behind him spread like wings, then his altitude started to descend on the ground.
Thinking that Ranger was unconscious after that attack, Yule ordered his weapon to return to him, which immediately all the spears poking from the ground glowed and exploded turning to tiny lights and flew straight to his chest.
“Ranger! Answer me, if you can,” Yule checked his classmate and immediately ran as fast as he could to where Ranger was.
There was a long pause, then Ranger’s voice cracked in.
“Don’t worry, Yule. I’m still awake. I’m just feeling sleepy right now,” Ranger replied in a weak voice.
“Thank God! I thought for a second you’re falling on the ground.” Yule stopped on his tracks, but his eyes remained lock on Ranger.
“But hey, congrats! Your plan worked out. I’m also surprised at myself that I defeated a level 3 aswang.”
“Hey, it was a group effort. Plus we’re not yet done.” Yule turned to where Haruto was located. “This is your cue now.”

Haruto stood afar from where Yule, Jin-Yoo, and Ranger. This was to ensure the safety of the sleeping form of Yule’s classmate – Sanna while they battle the aswang. And if all else fails, he could quickly carry Sanna away from those giant monsters.
He had doubts about Yule’s plan, but he was glad it all worked out well in the end. But now, he had to do the last part of the plan – to ensure that two giant aswang will not rise from the ground.
Haruto summoned his weapon back again – a golden shakujo. The golden rings on top jiggled, creating a chiming sound. He started swinging the shakujo like a baton, spinning it with his hands.

“Second Tail!”
The wind started to swirl around him, gathering the magic from Haruto. Then a long red translucent tail sprouted behind him. And another red translucent tail appeared beside it. Both were wagging playfully from left to right.
“Homura!”
Below him from where he was standing, a red magic circle bloomed.

“If you don’t want to burn, get away from the aswang, now!” Haruto ordered to Yule and Ranger in the communication line.
Without a missing a beat, Ranger flew again in the air despite being groggy from the last attack he had made and quickly grabbed Yule. They fled the area and quickly headed to where Jin-Yoo was.
Then, an identical red magic circle bloomed below from where the bodies of the aswang lying on the ground.
And a sizzle of magical energies surrounded the fallen bodies. The temperature around the area of the magic circle started to get high and little flames started appearing the circle’s edge, licking and spreading around the area. Then, the little flames transformed into giant-sized flames, and it started consuming the stone bodies of the aswang.
At first, it might seem like nothing was happening to the bodies, but the fire got intense, consuming further the aswang. The bodies started to melt turning into a dark lava-like form.
The fire continued consuming the bodies until Haruto dispelled the magic circle. The red circle faded on the ground, and what was left was a dark charred solid ground. No traces left from the aswang.
“It’s done,” Haruto declared to the trio, who witnessed the burning scene.
Yule, Ranger, and Jin-Yoo sighed in unison which surprised them and laughed at each other.
“Hey, Haruto! If you don’t mind, why don’t join us here?” Yule inquired on the other end of the line.
“As much as I want to but I have to carry Sanna, which by the way is your responsibility, Yule.” Haruto retorted in an irritated tone.
Ranger replied on behalf of Yule, fooling around Haruto when their conversation suddenly stopped.
The three heard a heavy footstep behind them. Yule and Jin-Yoo quickly placed their palms on their chest to summon their weapons back, but Ranger raised his right arm in the air, halting the two students.
“Hey! What happened? Is there another aswang?” Haruto asked concernedly.
“Don’t worry, Haruto. We’re safe now. We just have a visitor.” Ranger replied to him.
“Who?”
Ranger turned on his back and faced the incoming figure. He rolled his eyes at the figure, but then he broke a smile at him.
Yule and Jin-Yoo followed suit and relief were written all over their faces.
The mysterious figure walking towards them while carrying a heavy greatsword on his back was in fact, Professor Matteo Fields.
The professor waved at them leisurely and when he was inches away from them, he grabbed the heavy greatsword from his back and pierced it to the ground while holding to the hilt like a supporting cane.
“I’m guessin’ I’m too late to rescue you,” The professor broke in, panting heavily.
“Where were you? Do you know what happened to us?” Ranger fired his accusing questions to his professor.
“Long story short, let’s just say I have to deal with a trio of pig-faced monsters. And yes, Avatara informed me of your situation. To tell you the truth, I was already here when I heard Yule-” The professor eyed the said student, “-telling his plan to the three of you in the communication line. And upon my observation, you don’t need my help so far.”
The students including Haruto almost revolted from the statement of the professor when Professor Fields raised his left hand.
“I know. I know how it sounds. But I was ready to intervene if your plan went south.”
Then Avatara’s voice cracked in the line.
“Guys, in my defense, I was telling your stupid professor repeatedly to intervene immediately regardless of how good the plan was. But since he’s a thick-headed prick, I can’t do anything.” The engkanto said in an apologetic voice.
Ranger was about to retort back when Yule edged him first.
“Professor, I know we have a lot to catch up. But can we do this in the aircraft? Everyone is too tired already. Plus Sanna is still unconscious with Haruto.”
The professor smiled and nodded at his new student.
