Apocalypse: I Can Level Up Everything - Chapter 37
Wu Peng continued shooting at the members from Viper.
He hadn’t expected them to crouch in a depression in the ground. The terrain that they were on was several inches lower than the ground he was on.
Wu Peng’s bullet either flew past their heads or landed in the sand in front of them.
The rest of Viper’s members were also well trained, and they locked onto Wu Peng’s position based on the general direction that the bullets were coming from.
The battle immediately became positional warfare with both parties shooting at each other.
Thinking about the situation on Ye Wei’s side, Wu Peng didn’t want to waste too much time with these people.
He took out a grenade from around his waist and placed it inside the HK416’s modified grenade launcher.
He angled the barrel of the gun slightly upward and pulled the trigger.
With a boom, the grenade flew through the air in an arc and landed in the depression that the members of Viper were hiding in.
Then, there was a loud explosion, and dust and debris flew up into the air.
Wu Peng didn’t immediately stand up to investigate the situation. Instead, he remained crouching.
After a minute, he fired a few experimental shots at the enemy.
After ascertaining that there were no movements on the enemy’s side, he quickly ran over at a half-crouch.
One of the member’s lower body had been blasted to bits, while the other had become unconscious from the impact of the explosion.
Wu Peng couldn’t be bothered to interrogate them. He fired two shots at their heads.
Then, he immediately connected to the Bird scouting drone with his phone.
He steered the Bird to scout the area where the meteor had fallen. As expected, there was a battle taking place there.
Viper had sent more men and were using stronger firepower this time around. They had even sent three armored vehicles.
Their armored vehicles were equipped with heavy-duty machine guns, which were raining down bullets on the law enforcers.
They must have sent armored vehicles with stronger firepower to take revenge on the law enforcers for splitting their SUV in half with their armored vehicle.
Fortunately, the law enforcers were also rather well-equipped, and they were holding their own against Viper.
However, what worried Wu Peng was that Viper’s reinforcements were still rushing over from all directions.
In the past, they must have been scattered throughout Viper’s various gathering points in Jiang City. However, central command had probably ordered them to come and snatch the fragments of the meteorite at any cost.
Wu Peng flew the Bird around the battlefield and finally saw Ye Wei.
She was crouching on the hood of an armored vehicle, surveying the battlefield with her binoculars. She issued orders through the wireless communication device from time to time.
Wu Peng put away his phone and started to run over to help them.
With the bird, he could easily avoid Viper’s men, and he met up with the law enforcers without encountering much trouble along the way.
Ye Wei was both surprised and relieved when she saw Wu Peng suddenly appear in front of her.
She had been lying in bed for a full week after her injury but hadn’t seen Wu Peng even once.
She’d thought that Wu Peng had become handicapped after being injured, or that his treatment hadn’t gone well and he’d died from an infection.
“Don’t look at me like that. It makes me feel embarrassed.”
Wu Peng always spoke so flippantly, so Ye Wei was used to it. He was someone who could smile and crack a joke even in the face of death.
“Viper suddenly launched a fierce attack tonight. Fortunately, the guards handled the situation well. Otherwise, we would’ve been run over. What do you think about this?”
Ye Wei’s attitude toward Wu Peng had changed now that she had gone through a life or death situation with him. In the past, she never would have actively sought his opinion.
“I scouted the area when I arrived. The members of Viper are still rushing over constantly. It seems like they want to fight it out with the law enforcers.”
Ye Wei smiled coldly and said, “They should all come over here in one go. I’ve already called for reinforcements from headquarters. You’re going to witness a big scene soon.”
When Wu Peng saw Ye Wei’s smile, he became curious about what the “big scene” would be.
At that moment, a law enforcer ran over panting and reported, “Captain! The enemy has increased their firepower. Our brothers at the frontline won’t be able to hold on much longer!”
Ye Wei immediately picked up the communication device and ordered, “Hear my orders, tighten the defensive formation! Law enforcers at the frontline are to retreat 50 meters!”
The law enforcers at the frontline immediately started to retreat, while those at the back tightened the defensive formation, leading to a more concentrated wave of firepower. As a result, they held off the enemy’s offense for the moment.
However, Wu Peng knew that continuing to passively defend wasn’t a long-term strategy. A defensive formation wouldn’t be able to hold against the enemy’s manic blasts, no matter how sturdy it was.
The enemies would immediately be able to infiltrate their ranks the moment they found an opening in their web of defense.
Ye Wei looked in the direction of the enemy with her binoculars and said, “Oh? Wu Peng, look at that car!”
Wu Peng fetched the binoculars from her and, looking in the same direction, he saw a pure-black armored SUV parked far away. It was much more luxurious than the bulletproof SUVs he’d encountered in the past.
A person was standing beside the car. He was dressed in black clothes with silver adornments, including a round, silver token on his helmet.
This person was also holding a pair of binoculars, which he was using to observe the law enforcers.
“Judging from this man’s clothing and posture, he might be one of Viper’s leaders.”
“We should be able to obtain a great amount of information from him if we capture him.”
There was a strange glow in Ye Wei’s eyes.
Wu Peng didn’t comment. Even an ordinary member of Viper was a fanatic who was unafraid of death. A leader of the organization would be even more loyal.
Suddenly, an alert rang out from Wu Peng’s phone. It had been sent by the Bird scouting drone. Wu Peng was shocked after he connected to the footage from the drone’s camera and saw a mass of drones flying through the sky. There were several hundred of them.
“Ye Wei, there are drones flying over here!”
Ye Wei quickly observed the situation with her binoculars and then exclaimed in surprise, “The big scene is here!”
The drones had reached the sky above their heads while they were speaking.
Judging from how Ye Wei was acting, Wu Peng guessed that these were the reinforcements sent over from headquarters.
Indeed, the drones flew over their heads in an imposing manner and started to attack Viper’s members.
Each of the drones’ bases opened up as they shot out guided missiles.
Even though the guided missiles weren’t large, their numbers more than made up for their lack of power.
Several hundred miniature guided missiles exploded on the battlefield, sending up flames, dust, and debris.
After the drones dropped their guided missiles, they started to fly through the air, revolving machine guns extending from their bases.
They started to spray bullets at Viper’s members.
Viper’s fierce offense instantly crumbled, and the tide of the battle immediately turned in the law enforcers’ favor.
The battle was already trending toward their annihilation.
Ye Wei continued to stare at the person who seemed to be a leader of Viper.
Seeing him get into the armored vehicle, about to make his escape, she immediately got into her own armored vehicle and pursued him.
Wu Peng wanted to stop her. After all, one should never press a desperate enemy.
However, Ye Wei wouldn’t listen to reason. She wanted to capture a big fish like him.
Left without a choice, Wu Peng quickly got into the car and chased after the man with her.
At that moment, Viper was in full retreat, and they didn’t try to fight off the armored vehicle.
The two of them passed through the battlefield unobstructed as they followed closely behind the armored SUV.
Even though the enemy noticed that Wu Peng and Ye Wei were pursuing them, they didn’t retaliate.
They simply accelerated as they drove forward.
